Could Jasnah have indirectly been responsible for the Sons of Honor and Gavilar's interest in going offworld? If the belief in her lunacy was because she perhaps visited Shadesmar and told her family, then perhaps it eventually gave Gavilar the inspiration to seek deeper. The reason that Jasnah could have started reconciling some shortly before his death is because he may have realized that she was never crazy, and he had failed to take her seriously.

Theory: Lightweavers use an alternative form of Transformation
Darth_Hel replied to Q10fanatic's topic in Stormlight Archive
Makes sense. Since soulcasting seems to be similar to what Shallan does to people. Look at what they are now and see what they could be, then convince them to be that instead. -
Is Lift's condition caused at leased in part by Cultivation choosing to remove any hold by Honor's shard over her? Lift cannot get investiture the normal way, through recharging by Honor's Cognitive Shadow and could be a result of Cultivation cutting her off completely from Honor. Instead, she gains stormlight through ingesting food, cultivated by people. I'm not sure what Cultivation has in store that might require a Radiant that is fully of her Shard and not a blending with Honor but could be interesting.

Yea, Third Ideal is about coming to terms with protecting those you hate. Kaladin has a lot of outward rage, and Teft has a lot directed inward at himself. So, the exact expression of it changes. Although, with Kaladin's depression "so long as it is right" might apply both to himself and others.

Something could have happened to her, not sure we know what happened to her parents or too much before she visited the Nightwatcher. But, Wayne acts generally like an immature child thief would, so it seems more like Wayne acts like Lift.

Khriss seems unlikely. Felt commented that the nightwatcher doesn't like foreigners.

Complete tin foil theory. We see that Odium has saved the souls of the Fused allowing them to come back each desolation seeking vengeance. Is it possible that part of Honor's plan to defeat Odium involved Honor doing the same to any Radiant or even just Honor aligned surgebinders, saving them hidden in the storm? Perhaps Dalinar or another will tap into this and release them for the final battle where they could possibly fix their spren by living up to the oaths? Might explain why Nohadon seems to still be around if he was the first one saved. Thinking about this a bit more, maybe not trapped in the storm but in Cusicesh. The energy absorbed from witnesses may be the thing allowing Cusicesh to preserve the Radiants with each face shown being one of the preserved. These could be what Cusicesh is "protecting".

I don’t think he’d take it back because he wants to rule. But, I think if one person escaped and came begging Kaladin to help them and impressed upon him the responsibility as their Lord, he would internally feel that pressure. Brightlords that disregard and let their subjects die or suffer has been something that repeatedly drives Kaladin to the edge. Roshone, Amaram, Elhokar... each time Kaladin allows his anger get the best of him with them and makes stupid choices. He’d feel responsible to be better.

The best theory I’ve come up with is that Dalinar takes Honor and Szeth takes Odium, but Szeth’s oath is binding on the shard as well. So, Szeth’s commitment to follow Dalinar would allow shackles on Odium’s actions without requiring Odium to mess with Honor’s intent.

Edgedancer gone dark could be like Kelsier in his darkest parts of Mistborn. Slaughtering their way through the noble classes for the general way that the underclass is treated.

Wouldn't that actually increase the chances he could do it? Never changing seems in line with Preservation's intent.

Didn't those not of Bridge 4 have trouble becoming squires until they actually joined Bridge 4? Maybe its a sense that the Radiant has claimed them as a squire and they've accepted it? So, Vatha didn't until Shallan decided to trust her group and treat them like trusted underlings, and Kaladin even if he's willing to train others only really sees Bridge 4 as his. It doesn't matter how long you're in Bridge 4 or if he even completely knows you, being in Bridge 4 is a major distinction to Kaladin. Skybreakers being the longest surviving group and most legalistic just happen to still know the rules to it and are able to do it the simplest way.

So, the magic not knowing how to interpret that, is that just because Cultivation's Shard literally can't do it because its so counter to the Shard's intent? So, if Preservation had been asked for this boon could he have granted it? I know compounding can sort of do it, but eventually age overpowers it, but could Preservation have granted the boon if he was asked by someone?

If this is in fact how it works, does he store compassion somewhere too? There's been theories that a very stupid day would help save the world due to his compassion on that day. If the compassion and acumen are stored, perhaps he never fully taps either yet? In which case a twist could be that he might eventually have one day of both high intelligence and high compassion allowing him to break through whatever Odium has planned.

I read that as more supportive than you do. Humans gave him more of an ear than Singers did, and he was instrumental in what happened, and followed the humans over. It sounds like he's just saying that Odium didn't need to be "brought" because he could travel there at any time if he'd wanted, but he did decide to go with them.
-
Possibly, if Ashyn had Spren. If not then it could be the residual of whatever Odium investiture was filling their spiritwebs turned to Spren when Honor expelled it.
-
Some of the fuzziness could be because the void versions aren't one to one copies of the surge powers. Also, there's nothing saying the Heralds would neccessarily end up with the Blade matching their previous Surges. Especially since Brandon mentioned they could swap Blades if they wanted. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/100/#e3564

So,the people who became the Heralds seem to have been around before Humans came to Roshar. Back then they followed Odium and had surgebinders that would be related to Odium. So, its reasonable to guess that the Heralds before the joined the Oathpact might have been invested with Odium based magic. The Eila Stele mentions "They came from another world, using powers that we have been forbidden to touch. Dangerous powers, of spren and Surges." Whether bonded to Odium spren or invested with some sort of Odium magic, it seems reasonable that this might need to have been stripped away from them before they could enter the Pact with Honor. So, the unmade could have been that Odium investiture that had infused the Heralds pre-Oathpact. It might also explain why Taln wasn't expected as part of the Oathpact and why there are only nine Unmade. If Taln had no magic or investiture pre-Oathpact then there would be nothing to strip away. It could also tie heavily into the theme that the commoner among them was the strongest, the man who couldn't even control surges pre-Oathpact. Correct me if any of this seems wrong. I looked through Arcanum but could have missed things.

cool, thanks.

Not sure if there is any WoB on this. But is it possible that Feruchemy is a result of a third shard? It seems like Feruchemy would make a great magic system for a shard like autonomy. You rely on your own power to fuel your magic, save up something of yourself to use it later, you're basically autonomous. So, is it possible that people just assume its a mixture of preservation and ruin but its not?

Kandra spy for Harmony that was spying amongst the Parshendi perhaps?

That's a good point. It would be really interesting if he was ashamed of what he wished for from the Nightwatcher. He could have asked for some boon from her that the current day Dalinar would never want or use, giving up his memories of his wife for basically nothing. Losing his memories of his wife for something trivial or detestable could add to why he changed so heavily after his brother's death.
-
For the first one I was thinking that Dalinar had just lost his wife and either due to how she died or because he was now a single parent did not feel up to the task of raising his children, depending how much he relied upon her. So going to the Nightwatcher for that might work. For keeping Alethkar united, he must have always realized to some degree that it was just an alliance of scheming nobles kept together by force more than anything else. So he may have wanted to ensure he could hold it together. Thing is that we really don't know much about Dalinar's wife at all. How much did she want Dalinar to attempt to take the throne? Was she similar to Sadaes' wife and a master schemer? Its possible that she could have been killed due to some plot against Gavilar, and removing his memories of her would be part of the boon he wanted. Although, if that did happen it would have had to have been covered up, since I doubt Navani would have been so willing to discuss her had that been the case. Each of the flashbacks so far have come with somewhat heavy implications for the characters that has them, so I'm thinking if Dalinar's wife and his visit to the Nightwatcher is Dalinar's flashback sequence, there needs to be more to it than something simple like coveting his brother's throne. Either his wife had to have been pushing him over the edge, or Gavilar may have done something, not sure.

Jasnah would soulcast Wayne just to get him to shut up and stay still for a while.

I suppose there could be several vague statements made by Dalinar to the Nightwatcher that could result in the current numbers of surgebinders near/related to him. 1. Help me protect my family (so the nightwatcher arranges for Renarin to become a surgebinder to protect the weakest of them, as well as somehow arranging for Kaladin and Shallan to end up near them.) 2. Help me to keep Alethkar united (surgebinder powers would certainly allow him to protect the country, especially with so many loyal to him) 3. Help me not to covet my Brother's throne (putting him a position to lead surgebinders can give him a higher purpose than merely ruling Alethkar)
