  1. Eye of the Tiger. Kelsier. Rising up, back on the street Did my time, took my chances Went the distance, now I'm back on my feet Just a man and his will to survive So many times it happens too fast You trade your passion for glory Don't lose your grip on the dreams of the past You must fight just to keep them alive It's the eye of the tiger Mistborn It's the thrill of the fight Rising up to the challenge of our rival And the last known survivor Stalks his prey in the night And he's watching us all with the eye of the tiger Mistborn
  2. Perhaps it is a Shard speaking. Or maybe Frost. We know little about him, maybe these things are instructions to the Shard.
  3. Any chance of collaboration on a theory? I'm working on the Realmatic orientation of Shards.
  4. Ruin could be the patron of change.
  5. This seems like it is based on what I am trying to do. I'm trying to show that the Shards are connected to the sixteen Shards by theorizing about the different forms of Connection, which I use to be equated to the four categories of metal (physical, mental, temporal, and enhancement). Well done for explaining something about Investiture I hadn't even contemplated contemplating. One Cosmere Theorist to another, you did a great job.
  6. Upvote for Fakeless Immortal.
  7. The amount of Connection one has to a Shard is relevant when you take the Shard. Over time, there forms more and more Connection to the Shard, and perhaps less to other Shards. This alters the Vessel's Spiritweb, making them more like the Shard even if they let it go. Vin and Kelsier didn't hold the Shard for very long.
  8. OBABN. Other Books Are Boring Now. Extreme cases make you sound like Sherlock whenever you walk into a bookstore.
  9. I tried being normal once. It lasted two minutes and then Doctor Who came back on.
  10. 1. Before the Internet goes down, use a lot of YouTube tutorials to make my home better defended than MacGyver's man cave, and just survive off the food in my basement until someone comes to help me. Food is not a problem, as it is enough to feed six people for two years, and should last me for long enough. We also have water and toilet paper. And chickens for eggs. 2. Broadcast a radio message leading people to me, like in I Am Legend 3. Kill the chickens for fresh meat. 4. Write a lot of stuff out of boredom. If I run out of paper, I use the walls. Run out of pencils and pens, I use my own blood. Unless that attracts zombies. Then I go insane out of boredom, and start reciting random things. 5. If all the food runs out, I go out in a blaze of glory trying to get to Canada.
  11. I am satisfied with my wish and the granting of it. Since no wish was asked, I will just go. I wish for the effect known as the Northern Lights, or Aurora Borealis, to be visible to everyone on the surface of the earth at times normal for the Northern Lights to appear, with no detrimental effects on the atmosphere, sun, or any individuals or communities, including power blackouts or brownouts, and that they will appear in the sky, not anywhere else, for as long as the Lights appear, and that all individuals' appreciation of the Northern Lights is not in any way changed from what it is or would be prior to the granting of the wish.
  12. What I want most in my life right now is conversation. Not the kind where you talk about the weather, unless you're talking about the potential applications of this weather system in predicting the end of the world. Conversation that talks about deep subjects, like what's going on inside my head. The kind of things that one only talks to with people who really, genuinely care about the topics. But I can't. I don't have anyone to talk to like that. This has been the situation for a while, but I've been a bit mopey for the past week-ish.
  13. Remember, weapons besides Shardblades are possible (I cite the Shardspear, Shardaxe, etc that Kaladin wields in his fight with Szeth) but are not seen in post-Recreance Shardblades. Who knows what weird things Shardplate can do? Shardchair, perhaps?
  14. Back on track... There is one river on Dayside. Perhaps this is the Shardpool?
  15. Thank you, someone understands! The magic system linked to a Shard may have minimal influence by the metal in question. I' not quite sure where Cultivation goes, though. Too soon to tell. I'm working on Feruchemy, and I have no idea what the pattern is in your beloved Hemalurgy. I'm thinking about just saying that Hemalurgy is of Ruin, and thus doesn't apply to my theory. Feruchemy is a blend of Preservation and Ruin, so it may have subtle influences from the pattern.
  16. For a while now, I have had the theory that each of the Shards of Adonalsium correspond to one of the 16 Allom metals. I have tried to prove as much in various threads, and have come up with the same holes in the theory. Loosely paraphrased, they are: 1: Why are the metals categorized into the four groups? (physical, mental, temporal, and enhancement) 2: How do Feruchemical powers play into this? 3: What can be used to determine what metal goes with what Shard? 4: Any other questions I don't remember. I plan to address problems 1 and loosely 3. In another thread, I attempted to define Connection as being able to be separated into four categories: Person to person, person to location, person to Shard, person to Time. There has been a bit of conflict as to why Time is a form of Connection or if it is at all, but for now, I will just say that time is the most wibbly-wobbly of the types of Connection. I believe these four types of connection directly correspond to the different categories of metal. Person to person is physical, person to location is mental, person to Shard is enhancement, and person to Time is, well, temporal. But what can be used to identify the category a Shard fits into? Well, I'm more sure in some areas than others, so let's give it a stab. The general rule I have with matching Shards to metals is that the basic effect of the magic—with no actual use—is a heightened version of its mettalic counterpart, for example, the Nalthian's life sense is very much like bronze. Physical: This one is extremely subject to potential change, due to low sample size. Pewter provides the user with enhanced strength, speed, reflexes, endurance, and healing. The only difference between burning pewter and using Stormlight is that Stormlight makes you a human lightbulb. So, Honor's counterpart is pewter. But what does Surgebinding have to do with connection to people? The only thing I can say is that Honor has to do with how you interact with people. This seems flimsy even to me, and please don't make this the point that breaks the theory. I'm not happy with this part. Mental: This is my favorite category. My evidence here is far better. For two Shards I have placed in this category, I have placed because their Intents naturally incline them towards them. Devotion and Dominion I have linked with zinc and brass, the emotional metals. Devotion is about what you want, and glorifying that which you feel strongly about. Dominion is more about suppression. The third Shard I have already talked about, Endowment, which is bronze. These Shards have very clear references to location Connection. The Selish magic systems are based almost exclusively on location, especially the connection to a homeland. Endowment is a bit harder, and required a bit of digging. The Commands for Awakening must be spoken in the individuals native language. This link, although less confident than Selish magic, still remains in support of my theory. Temporal: This one was tricky. I have suspicions of two Shards being temporal: Preservation and Ruin. I came to this conclusion by the fact that Feruchemy, the magic system caused by the Shardic interaction, is defined as "shuttling attributes in time", as well as Preservation manifesting incredible abilities for foresight, even for a Shard. Preservation's magic being the basis of my theory makes it difficult to find a link to a metal, although I am giving them the metals of cadmium and bendalloy. The Connection to time seems to be manifested in some sort of timey-wimey foolery. Enhancement: This is likely manifested in interfering with the magic of either other magic users or different types of magic. Basically the larkins from Stormlight Archive are all I have to go on. I have basically nothing on how this relates to Connection. My next post on this topic is likely going to be on the Realmatic inclination of Shards.
  17. Dalinar rapping against Hoid. Actually, anyone against Hoid is unfair. Except maybe Lightsong.
  18. Hmm... potentially useful, but could easily blow me to Yolen, and my insurance policy doesn't cover Epic powers. Trades in nuke.
  19. You take a decent villain, and they make an amazing hero. Vice versa, a decent hero could be an amazing villain.
  20. We have no idea how to hack a magic system, of which this is an example of.
  21. I propose that we call the area of the Cognitive Realm claimed by a planet the planet's "mind-space"
  22. Britain has a House of Lords. The concept is far from foreign. W&W-era Scadrial seems to have either a bicameral or unicameral (I don't remember which) legislative branch, with a directly elected president. (They call him Governor. Same thing, different title.) The legislative branch seems to be a system with mixed ways of appointment, some being hereditary while others are elected. The entire system is unitary, with centralized power, versus the federal system Americans have grown up with. The virtually powerless states now seem to be opposing the unitary system, likely planning on creating a weak confederation (like the EU or the Articles of Confederation) or perhaps a federal system. I'm taking an AP Comparitive Government class. I've become very familiar with the terminology. I should stop spontaneously nerding out over government structures in a few months. Edit: my post was brief, and could easily be interpreted as insulting the intelligence of everyone who read it. I hopefully made it un-condescending, as well as more detailed.
  23. You decided to do it, but you realized halfway through that you had no idea what to do with it once you got to the end. Countertops are like emerald broams.
