Certain aspects? Try every applicable one. It is the Unforgable Metal on Sel, wounds made by aluminum cannot be healed by either Allomantic steel or Feruchemical gold, it likely performs all the effects of a Coppercloud when used as a covering... That's most of the cool stuff aluminum resists. I'm probably going to freak out when we learn more about what exactly Feruchemical Identity is. Yeah, it allows some interesting hacks, but what else?

I was storing in duralumin when my internet connection went down.

Why are you in need of a profile picture? I'm curious, not offering. My artistic ability is comparable to that of a drunk monkey.

There are easier ways to get magic powers. However, they require donation, swallowing certain bits of metal, living your whole life in one spot and being good at something, oaths that bond you to a piece of a dead god, etc.

Hi Friendly!
-
By the Bands, how did you come to an awareness of the hidden dangers of dark delicacies?
-
There are a few* connections. We probably have most/all of them figured out at this point, at least the ones it's possible to find. *We get bored. And then weird things happen. Weird ships happen.

Stormgate grabs the spike. "Stand down, denizen of the Alley! You have made your offer, and it has been denied. As found in section B4L0-NY of the Dark Alley Charter, you must go in peace."
-
Before you go too far, be aware that certain members of this forum offer new members Hemalurgic spikes disguised as cookies.
-
The cookie is a Hemalurgic spike. Handle with care. Sharp side away from self.
-
When he says raisins, he means Hemalurgic spikes.
-
You have chosen...wisely. The cookies, I am obligated to tell you, are in actuality Hemalurgic spikes.
-
... I should have done this like a month ago....
Stormgate replied to Erunion's topic in Introduce Yourself!
Apparently, the Dark Alley got bored of the "standard" Hemalurgic gifts, and have since moved on to stabbing platypi for their ability to sense electricity, stabbing a soldier for emotional maturity... you get the idea. -
Something scary: nicrosil Compounder. Get strong enough and you can strip the iron from Lurchers and maybe Coinshots (it might make them sick) and perhaps other metals that are found in the body. Who knows? It might be strong enough to wipe the contents of metalminds or Hemalurgic spikes. Which would be awesome and terrifying, like a kandra without the restriction of killing people. (Imagine it: A kandra just steamrolling through enemy ranks. Get in their way and you get eaten. )

The mists help Vin because they are of Preservation. The mists, until the Ascension of Vin, were mostly independent of Leras' mind. Their commands were: Snap Allomancers. Come at night. When someone Snaps, they, at that moment, want one thing more than anything: to survive, or be preserved. This is perhaps most dramatic in Kelsier's case, but still true regardless. The mists circle around Allomancers because they have more Preservation in them. The mists helped Vin because not only did she have that prior connection (calm down SH readers. I know.) to Preservation, but she strenghthened the bond by being in a position where she was in jeopardy and matched the Intent of the Shard. So, when Vin took in the mists, it wasn't Preservation going out of his way to help her. Rather, it was a much smaller version of what happened when she Ascended. (The second time. The first time with the Pool could probably have been done by almost anyone.)

Hoid probably wanted TLR to die. Because the Lord Ruler fell, Ruin was released. Because Ruin was released, Vin had to stop him. Because Vin had to stop him, both Vin and Ati died. Because both Vin and Ati died, Sazed took up both Shards. Hoid, for some reason, wanted Harmony.

Let's put that differently: Stormlight is a souped-up version of pewter.

Shardplate has smaller pieces covering potential chinks in armor. Also, Shardplate is more than armor, it provides a man with more strength, speed, etc. than he normally has. That said, Shardbows can reportedly crack Shardplate, and it is likely not too wrong to think that they have similar power levels. So, there's that.

You Know You're a Sanderfan When...

When you are immensely disappointed when you learn that touching cadmium can be toxic, swallowing it more so. -
In the Cosmere, there seem to be two types of magic: ones where the practitioners' manipulation of Investiture happens outside themselves and inside themselves. The internal magics seem to be more instinctual, and perhaps in some ways more unreliable, than external magics, which often act less like magic and more like technology, but work more reliably. Surgebinding, for example, is mostly instinctual. A Surgebinder needs to train their powers, but the actual execution is usually instinctual. However, Surgebinding that by necessity requires mental focus (Soulcasting and Lightweaving) are more difficult to perform successfully than using the Gravitation Surge (I cite Kaladin's awesome fight with Szeth. He noticed that Lashing the right way was easier when he didn't think about it as much). So, apparently, internal magics have a more challenging time with more cognitive tasks, with less precise results (whether they're Cognitive or Spiritual is another discussion). AonDor, Forging, and Hemalurgy, however, seem to be the most difficult to learn, and they're external. Without prior knowledge of bind points likely gained during Rashek's Ascension, the koloss, kandra, and Inquisitors would be impossible. Yes, many practitioners of Hemalurgy have spikes themselves, but it is not a requirement to be a Hemalurgist. AonDor and Forging, similarly, are incredibly difficult to learn. Raoden was lucky in that he was trained in Aons from a young age. However, the results from AonDor are much more precise than other magics, especially compared to internal magics. The Transportation Surge, used by Jasnah in WoR (I'm sorry if it's a spoiler, but spoiler tags aren't required on this subforum. At least, not for WoR) is shown to be very difficult without experience. The Aon for travel (I forget which one it is), however, provides much better results, provided you know the distance to your destination. External magics give better results for tasks that are difficult to keep track of. However, they are less useful in many situations, mainly ones that by necessity cannot wait while you whittle a Soulstamp or draw an Aon (Raoden manages to draw Aons fast, but he isn't the baseline). These are mainly combat situations, where, unless you can do it quickly, turning your enemy into cheese or his sword into a plow isn't practical. My point is that there is a trade-off between precision and whether they're weaponizable. Sure, Aon Daa (I think that's the one) basically makes Star Wars style blaster beams, but you have to redraw the Aon every time. It's like old-fashioned guns you have to manually reload after every shot. Mistborn, however, can kill a man two different ways if he has a coin. (Either use the coin as a bullet or kill with a snap of the neck or something.) In a normal situation, a Mistborn could kill a cat all nine ways in a matter of minutes. So, why is there this trade-off? What is going on so that Soulcast food is bland, while Elantrians can turn dirt into a nice steak with some complicated waves of the hand?

I do think that the creatures that eat (for want of a better word) Stormlight are somehow Invested. Maybe in a similar manner (but by no means identical) to the mistwraiths having the power to effectively shapeshift. The sentience comes via Hemalurgy. Fabrials can use the Surges, which have been defined as being like the Allomantic metals on Scadrial. Similar to how Feruchemy and Allomancy use the same metals, Fabrials and Sprenbonding use the same Surges. Voidbinding likely uses the same Surges, but with most of the power likely involving spren. There are also the mysterious Dawnshards, which should be taken into account.

Nightwatcher Boon/Bane (Game)
Stormgate replied to killersquirrel59's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
Granted. You become a hero and are forced into isolation from relationships to protect them from your enemies. Your bane is that you will never stop having enemies that require your isolation. I wish to be eloquent to the point that nobody is confused as to the point I am trying to make. -
Perhaps renaming the threads to avoid confusion would be a good move.

The system isn't perfect. If you reply to the e-mail where you got Aether informing them that you didn't get White Sand, you should receive it quickly.
