  1. Well if you're open to suggestions, I would definitely appreciate someone asking about my Edgedancer Resonance theory. Though I guess it may get RAFO'd...
  2. Just a heads up but this really isn't the place to do signing reports. They should go into the relevant event thread in in the Events and Signings forum. For reference here are our guidelines for this sort of thing.
  3. You're totally good to post the initial talk and the general q&a now. For readings Brandon generally asks that they not get posted before the end of his tour (so it can be a special treat to those who can make it to an event) but you should be fine to post that anytime after Tuesday's Chicago signing.
  4. So we definitely need to do some re-organizing with this stuff, but I do think we should keep both Celestial bodies and Cosmere astronomy as categories. Namely because we like to think ahead and we already know of at least one story set in space (which will likely include a number of Celestial bodies) that may or may not be a part of the Cosmere. If it isn't then we can't use just "Cosmere astronomy" or "Physical Realm" as a category. Does that make sense?
  5. I really don't think it implies there are more than 10 gas giants in the system? Just that Rosharans can't see all 10.
  6. THE END IS NIGH! Or at least the end of the first draft of Stormlight 3 is almost here. The progress bar on Brandon's site is currently sitting at 98% and should reach 100% very soon. At Wednesday's San Fransisco confirmed that it will be released in November 2017. Unfortunately that is still about a year away. I think last week's release of Edgedancer has helped cut the worst of our cravings, but if it still wasn't enough I have good news. The Unfettered II anthology, originally scheduled to release on December 6th has had its ebook released early, and as we reported earlier, it includes the first FOUR Dalinar flashback chapters! I for one plan on picking it up as soon as I can and there will be a spoiler forum where they can be discuss them soon. In other news forum member @David_Fonti just released a computer animated Stormlight fan film that he and a team made. I really must say, they did a fantastic job. It gives a taste of what a Stormlight adaptation could be, and I hope we see more. In addition to the film itself he's posted a behind-the-scenes documentary on how the film was created which I found quite interesting. Discuss it here!
  7. Technically it's not a deleted scene. Brandon wrote about a novella's worth of Jasnah's travels through Shadesmar because he needed to work through what happened, but he never intended on releasing it.
  8. We've known about this for a while actually.
  9. So ailavyn-siniyashi over on tumblr posted the following the report:
  10. This is a good point. We tend to refer the chart from the WoK endpapers as the "Surgebinding chart" but that isn't really what it is. The Double Eye of the Almighty is actually a symbolic representation of the Ten Essences and the Ten Surges. The Ten Fundamental Glyphs, which are commonly referred to as the Radiant Order glyphs, have a lot of things associated with them. The Orders are one, but they aren't the only one.
  11. As someone who wears glasses and has a chronic illness, I couldn't disagree more. I would definitely the things as being part of who I am, even if I wish they weren't. Now I totally believe you when you say that you feel differently, but it's not fair to say that everyone feels like you do.
  12. Well we do have WoB that the Windrunner Resonance is "Strength of Squires". We just don't know what that means exactly. As for the Edgedancer Resonance, I'm definitely in the camp of it being enhanced geolocative abilities. I don't really have a good idea on an associated magical ability that they could be potentially tapping into though, which is why I didn't include them in my prior post. That said we are reasonably sure the Skybreaker Resonance has to do with dividing the guilty from the innocent, which could very easily tie into the effect of Aon Kii (which causes those who are guilty to feel pain).
  13. That would be a Dysian Aimian. There's already a thread discussing this here.
  14. I'm not sure I entirely understand your question. Constellations pretty much always have images associated with them? That's kind of how they are defined in the first place? Unless you mean the signs of the Zodiac? In which case I case I don't think these have anything to do with a Zodiac. This is just the view of the cosmere from the perspective of Silverlight. As Landis said it's the red swath of stars known as Taln's Scar on Roshar and the Red Rip on Scadrial. I would be very leery of basing any sense of "closeness" based off a star chart like this, as it does not take into account how far the stars are from the viewer.
  15. Yeah I would definitely say it sounds a lot like Connection, or at least the auto-magic translator part of Connection. That was part of my thought process for this, but it looks like I forgot to add that to my original post. Oops... But I think it would be interesting if all the Resonances are a cross between a mundane ability turned up to 11 and a truly magical ability. So the Edgedancers' enhanced communicative abilites touch upon Connection, and the Lightweavers' mnemonic abilities could be related to Feruchemical Memory.
  16. So sillyslovene posted this over on Tor.com: Silverlight was my personal theory for the perspective on that chart, so I'm glad to have that revealed.
  17. From the 2014 State of the Sanderson: On Adamant potentially becoming Cosmere: Brandon Sanderson *Following a reading* That's called Adamant, and the premise that made me want to start writing it was this idea of basically Silence of the Lambs in Space. Right after this humankind is going to be betrayed by the "nice" aliens, who have given them this sidejack technology and helped them in their war against the violent Knockers. And it turns out they've been played the whole time, the "nice" aliens just wanted a nice race of obedient soldiers. They turn off the sidejack, it knocks out the entire command staff of the Armada and that leaves Jeff, who doesn't have one, who's not really a commander, in charge. He's able to grab the flagship and fly away with the Centurion in the brig, who is the greatest military mind that the galaxy has ever known. So what follows is the story of him trying to get the Centurion to give him advice on tactics in the war against the quote-unquote nice aliens while the Centurion is trying to figure out how to escape and get away from him. It's a very fun story, but it's not ready to be released. One of the things I'm thinking of doing is if I can maybe slide this into the Cosmere, I haven't decided yet. It would be really fun to get it in there, I think it could, I would just have to lose the Shakespeare line. That's kind of hurting me because I like that line. So we'll see if I can get it in or not... Bryan Thomas Schmidt Is it part of a series? Brandon Sanderson What I'm going to do is I'll probably do four or five novellas that build-- So it's like a novel told in novella form. I kind of imagine doing some episodes quote-unquote, right? And then have a six-episode season with the last episode being the end, so a mini-series basically. Kind of like what was done with... Wool, that's what it was… I think the the serial has a chance of coming back because of ebooks and things like that.
  18. I would, if I could remember where it was, but I'm not finding it in a cursory search. Hopefully somebody else remembers this though.
  19. I wouldn't disavow this one, since I distinctly recall a fairly recent WoB that says Brandon came up with the Shardic Intents by examining aspects of Deity in a wide variety of cultures.
  20. So I actually have asked Peter about this. Brandon is actually talking about Nazh's given name (which I'm guessing is a very Puritan-y name, like Silence), Nazrilof is his surname.
  21. I don't think it is meant to explain Lift's gifts. After all the Nightwatcher doesn't give you what you ask for, she gives you want she wants to give you.
  22. It's okay to add stuff from Edgedancer or Arcanum Unbounded now, as long as you add a spoiler at the top of the page. {{spoilers|sa2.5}} or {{spoilers|edgedancer}} will work for Edgedancer and {{spoilers|au}} will work for Arcanum Unbounded. I'll see what we can do about making our spoiler policy easy to find.
  23. So I just updated your user permissions so you shouldn't have to deal with a CAPTCHA any more and you should be able to create pages (I think). There's a manual setting we have to change which we forget about until somebody points it out. It is totally possible for normal editors to update navboxes, but we do prefer categories to be up to admins (if you notice something that should be changed with them just let one of us know and we'll discuss it). And yeah it would be something like {{book ref|ws1|2}} for references.
  24. It's less that they are named after the Heralds, I think, and more that they are numbered using numbers derived from the names of the Heralds.
