Deadline has recently reported that the Mistborn: The Final Empire film, being produced by DMG, now has a scriptwriter attached. The scriptwriter's name is F. Scott Frazier, and he's only written a few films so far, although in addition to Mistborn he has been tapped to write two more scripts for other companies. I would like to remind everyone that just because it has a script writer does not mean that a film will definitely go forward. Also, do give Frazier a chance, he may be early in his career, but everyone has to start somewhere. Hopefully he ends up wowing us a fantastic adaptation. In other news, we have new cover art for Snapshot, Brandon's new novella coming out February 17th (which, in case you missed has just been optioned for film by MGM) and for Dreamer, a short story originally published in the Games Creatures Play anthology edited by Charlaine Harris. The artist Howard Lyon has posted them on his twitter, and I really must say he did a great job: The Amazon page for Snapshot also includes a new blurb, which sheds new light on the plot of the novella:

how was aimia invaded in the first place?
WeiryWriter replied to king of nowhere's topic in Stormlight Archive
Minor correction here, the Era of Solitude began at Aharietiam, not at the start of the modern Vorin calender. -
Actually Brandon has previously said that Wayne's acting ability has nothing to do with his Resonance. I will try to find the WoB when I can.
-
This actually isn't the first time this has happened. Steelheart was optioned over a year before it was released.

There's already a thread discussing this here, so I will be locking this one.

Yesterday, Deadline announced that the film rights for Snapshot, Brandon's new novella coming out next month, have been optioned by MGM. Snapshot is set within the same multiverse as The Reckoners, and depicts a world where they are able to re-create a single day in order for the police to investigate major crimes. Here's the cover blurb: In case you have been living under a rock, and missed last October's major news, this is not the first of Brandon's works to be optioned for film. The rights for the entire Cosmere sequence are held by DMG (who are focusing on The Way of Kings, Mistborn, and The Emperor's Soul) and the rights for The Reckoners are held by 21 Laps, Shawn Levy's company at Fox. Interestingly enough this is not the first time one of Brandon's works has been optioned for film prior to being released, it happened with Steelheart as well. I for one am excited to here this. I think the premise of Snapshot sounds really interesting and am curious to see how it could turn out in film.

Okay, so I actually re-listened to the reading Brandon did from this (which I neglected to do when first proposing this), and the narator does give an in-world tech explanation of how the snapshots are created. Namely that there are nano-robot things in people's blood and crawling over every surface in the city, and that the data they collect is used to create the snapshot. I am still in favor of my theory however, as I don't think the nano-robots could possibly be collecting enough data to possibly accomplish what they claim it does. It could re-create all the pieces, but I don't think it could accurate duplicate the human mind.

Pondering State of Sanderson 2016
WeiryWriter replied to The Quiet One's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Okay there are a bunch of factors that went into progress slowing down during the early parts of 2016, which he actually talks about in the State. A lot of February/March was spent on tour, which he has said hampers his ability to write (and he ended up writing the novella Snapshot during March as well, but that was mostly while he was traveling abroad). He only spent May writing Edgedancer and the AU essays. -
Pondering State of Sanderson 2016

Where exactly are you getting the "4-6 months" number? -
The name change is probably just because it's copyrighted by Dragonsteel Entertainment, Brandon's company, or something 'though I'm not sure why it would be doing that. There are converters on line that will give you an epub if you supply a .docx, that's what I did. The underlined words are just manuscript notation for italics, underlining is easier to pick out when skimming a document.

No, it is definitively after Stormlight 5, we do not know more specifically than that. (It may be between 5 and 6, or it could be between 6/7, 7/8/, 8/9, 9/10, or after 10) Era 2 will be four books, of which The Lost Metal is the last.

The Splintercast Reads Edgedancer, Episode 1
WeiryWriter commented on FeatherWriter's article in Shardcast
Yay, new Splintercast! The Nightwatcher doesn't actually have to give you what you ask for as a boon. You ask her for something, and then she gives you what she wants to give you (which might be what you asked for, possibly tangentially) and then a curse to go along with it.- 27 comments

Lord Beggar isn't technically an official title, and so isn't actually part of the Council of Taishin. It's mostly a title Nilto has made for himself, to show that his influence and power are comparable to the Taishin, but they do not recognize him officially.

Shardkeepers Podcast: Arcanum Unbounded Essays
WeiryWriter commented on Chaos's article in Shardcast
Eshonai only mentions a single Rider of Storms, which is the listener name for the Stormfather. And there is WoB somewhere where Brandon says that traditionally people believe each highstorm is a new storm created at the Origin, but that the current scientific opinion of the stormwardens (among others) is that there is only a single one that goes 'round and 'round.- 28 comments

Silverlight is definitely in the Cognitive Realm, that's WoB. I can't recall exactly but I think we said that the star chart was from the point of view of Silverlight (or rather the Physical Realm location corresponding to Silverlight), which may or may not be the case but it *is* from the point of view of somewhere.- 28 comments

Oh don't feel too bad, you aren't the first person on the female to make that mistake (one person was actually under the impression that @FeatherWriter and I were twins).- 28 comments

Shardkeepers Podcast: Arcanum Unbounded Essays
WeiryWriter commented on Chaos's article in Shardcast
The point I was trying to make is that this is the view of the night sky from somewhere. If you go outside at night and look at the stars make a star chart like this, by plotting each star's location on a 2-d plane like this star chart (which isn't actually possible to do accurately, you need the inside of a sphere to do that, but that's beside the point). Given just that star chart, you cannot accurately determine the distance between stars, because it does not take into account how far each star is from the observer. That is the z-dimension I was referring to. I was thinking of names more along the lines of "If-Jesus-Christ-Had-Not-Died-For-Thee-Thou-Hadst-Been-Damned", but yeah Lamentation is pretty weird.- 28 comments

There's also a reference to "Tashi and the Nine", which implies, to me at least, that Tashi is one of the Ten Heralds.
