Is there a reason no one has brought up non-Allomantic/Feruchemical spikes? It is possible that he also has an iron spike for human strength. At least once in HoA he described as "unnaturally tall" and given what we know of iron hemalurgy from the MAG (yes I know, not the greatest source): Although he certainly doesn't fit the second part of that so I dunno...

Suvudu has just posted a (very short) interview with Brandon, focusing on Firefight here. Nothing really new, he's working on incorporating editor notes and he's planning on the book explaining more of the why and hows of the Epics.

In the The Hero of Ages epigraphs I do remember Sazed saying something similar to that (though in a cursory search I can't find it), however I've always interpreted that as a metaphor. He's talking about how everything has three aspects (Physical, Cognitive, and Spiritual) and compares that to phase/state changes in physical objects (ice, water, and steam are all the same material just in different phases) But the Mists/the liquid in the Well/lerasium are all part of the physical aspect of Preservation by default, they *are* physical materials manifesting in the Physical Realm. The WoB in question actually says that the mists are more like the highstorms than stormlight. And yeah it is noted on several occasions that the Mist is different than ordinary fog and the common reason cited is that it moves in grand patterns and such. The other is that the Mists won't enter a building (which might be related to gemstones having to be outside to be infused?). I'm not sure we can compare Syl and Pattern forming blades to this. They are already manifesting in the Physical Realm, they are just changing shape. The dead shardblades have to manifest themselves so it isn't going to look exactly the same.

The same thing happens with Vin after she and Kelsier pewterdrag in TFE, she is about to pass out until Kelsier tells her to flare her tin which snaps her back to lucidity. I always thought of it as similar to smelling salts in a way, the stimulation is enough to "wake them up" without over-stimulating them.

The Ultimate List of Questions for Brandon
WeiryWriter replied to Chaos's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Is the nature of Vin's noble heritage known during the Alloy-era? (Because if so I could totally see House Tekiel trying to build itself based on its relationship to her) -
super long pretentious title because I can FTW!!! Okay so I remember reading some people taking this quote: and saying that because it started as "little vines" the spren that makes up Adolin's Shardblade has to be an Edgedancer spren or closely related to it. That logic never really sat right with me (though admittedly I am biased against it because of some of my minor theories). Flashforward to my reread of the Mistborn series, and I come across this (emphasis mine): Now personally I think the use of "vine" in both cases is mostly a descriptive coincidence, but it did get me thinking about the similarities between the mists/lerasium and the summoning-fog/shardblade relationships. The former are directly described as being the "body" (i.e. physical aspect) of Preservation. Could the same be true of the latter as well? I'm inclined to say yes, they are the "bodies" of spren which are themselves Splinters. Anyway, I don't really know what I wanted to say but I figured I should share...

I believe Brandon has said he would touch on how they knew about being siblings in Nightblood whenever he writes it. As for Llarimar we have this: (source)

Well since we have WoB that the Commands are a Cognitive focus... (which is seriously the hardest to find thing ever) I also think "shape" is important for the focus, I just don't see why it *has* to be in the Physical. No one of the three Realms is really "primary" over the others. An old theory of mine is that surgebinding has a spiritual focus and that the "committing oneself to ideals" cases someones soul/spiritweb to change shape into the focus. I don't know if I actually think that anymore though but I think we shouldn't restrict ourselves to only looking at the Physical when discussing Foci. I also wouldn't say you are giving Nalthis special cases, we really only have three confirmed examples of foci: Sel has its programming-based investiture which uses physical shapes (Aons for AonDor, the soulstamps for Forgery), Scadrial has metal for the Metallic Arts, and Nalthis has Commands for Awakening. So it could be said a third of known foci are Cognitive in nature, however we can't say Commands are an outlier because we have so little information/examples. I do not, it is just my interpretation/rationalizing of things.

I don't think the pattern of the sound waves has anything to do with it really, Commands are a Cognitive focus soundwaves are a Physical thing. The speaking of the Command just "forces your mind into the right shape" to form the focus. We have WoB that the more Breaths you have the closer you are to Endowment, so it makes sense that at the highest Heightening you gain the "clarity of thought" to be able to contort your mind without having to speak the Comand.

Your favorite character from first Trilogy
WeiryWriter replied to TheWarriorPoet's topic in Mistborn
Definitely Elend, I identify pretty strongly with him. Vin, Kelsier, Sazed, and TenSoon are all great and I have a fondness for Breeze. -
I'm pretty sure the 10 Fools are just cultural constructs designed to parallel/complement the Heralds in Vorin teachings. We also have WoB that while there is a fixed number of Unmade, that number is *not* 10.

We have WoB that it has been used off-Scadrial, but no indication as to whether we have seen it. -
Shardic Number Theory Revisited (Part One - Shards)
WeiryWriter replied to Tempus's topic in Cosmere Discussion
Yes, we are. Sazed comes right out and says it in the HoA epigraphs: Yes, this is an in-word "document" but this is being said by the person holding Ruin, if anyone were to understand its powers it would be Sazed. There is also this, where Brandon specifically says he designed Hemalurgy to evoke the power of Ruin: (source)- 13 replies

It looks like July 3-6 is the rough release date, from the newsletter:

Thanks for doing this, its a huge help. I know we've been wanting the HoA symbols added for a while but they are a bit more difficult to reproduce. Joe sent an email to Isaac about them a while back, but I don't think he ever heard back.

Where does roshar get it's horses
WeiryWriter replied to High prince of geeks's topic in Stormlight Archive
It is said in the text that horses come from and are bred in Shinovar. It is also said the normal horses were exceedingly rare in the past, even Kings had a hard time getting them, even in the present they are obnoxiously expensive. -
No, Vin, at least, also uses it.

Is Renarin the 1st to have Two Shard blades!?
WeiryWriter replied to metaldragon's topic in Stormlight Archive
I doubt Renarin is the first to have two shardblades, they've existed for a *long* time, chances are someone has done it. Actually Elhokar has two, his "Sunraiser", and his father's "Firestorm". -
As people said Sazed lowered the threshold necessary to Snap, but he couldn't get rid of it completely: (source)

I'm pretty sceptical about the "each shard having an associated number" but the color thing is a pretty much definite no. Preservation and Ruin being represented by white and black had to do with being viewed as polar opposites. Shards can have colors but it has to do with where they are and what Shards they are interacting with, and there is no guarantee its color will always be the same. (source)

No it is not. Threnody is the planet of Shadows for Silence in the Forests of Hell, Ashyn is the planet for The Silence Divine, and First of the Sun is the planet of Sixth of the Dusk.
