The Splintercast Reads Words of Radiance, Episode 13: Chapters 47-49
WeiryWriter commented on Chaos's article in Shardcast
I really enjoyed the linguistics discussion in the Chapter 47 one, language is a facination of mine. I really want to take some linguistics classes at some point...- 7 comments

no it is definitely hundreds but not thousands of years. -
Possible Location of Urithiru and Oathgates?
WeiryWriter replied to wickedpissah's topic in Stormlight Archive
While cool, the main issue I have is that wouldn't the oathgates make the most sense in the capitals of the Silver Kingdoms? Granted we don't know where the capitals were but according to your map neither Aimia, Rishir, nor Makabakam have an oathgate, while Valhav has three and Thalath two. -
Actually the term is considerably older than that, originating in the 1500-1600's and originally refered to a mixture of a number of different liquers. Eventually it came to refer to nonsense words.

Yeah... I'll get around to transcribing that... -

So I've finished the first pass of the transcription, I just need to go back and do the little hard to hear bits, but I figured I should share what I have since it has the gist of everything. One thing that seemed odd to me, that hopefully Peter might be able to clear up, is that Isaac refers to having to know how the name of the glyph is pronounced in Alethi before designing it. However the text indicates that the glyphs are not exclusively Alethi, does he just mean he needs to know it is pronounced? -
Hmmm.... If only there was a cosmere wiki... In all seriousness I could see the value of having a section on book pages for cosmere easter eggs.

@Delightful - Ym was very likely a potential Truthwatcher, he uses Regrowth (Progression) so he was either an Edgedancer or a Truthwatcher and since one of the other interludes features an Edgedancer most of us are inclined to believe he was a Truthwatcher. Which is also supported by the fact that his spren appears to be a different type from Wyndle. @WitSpren - I don't see why Renarin would have Ym's spren, there are more than one spren of each type. (And Ym and Renarin are on pretty much opposite sides of the continent) Also Ym's death definitely has nothing to do with Renarin hearing the screams, that is quite clearly explained as happening to all surgebinders who touch a dead shardblade.

Yeah that was figured out a while back. It is a code that decrypts to "Hold the secret that broke the Knights Radiant. You may need it to destroy the new Orders when they return."

Mistborn Adventures is the official title, I believe.

Minor correction here, the Era of Solitude, began at Aharietem when humanity "won" (at least that is how the believe it to be) so the Hierocracy was during the Era of Solitude. And yes the generally accepted interpretations are that the "theocracy" was the Hierocracy when the Vorin Church held power and that the "mageocracy" refers to the Silver Kingdoms era where the Knights Radiant were dominant.

Actually Brandon has mentioned that Tor was leaning towards a January release date. But the cover/release date are actually supposed to be released today so keep an eye out.

Here is the quote about Nightblood being many times more Invested than a normal shardblade: (source) (and also sort of this)

Question about the 10 honorblades
WeiryWriter replied to fievelgoespostal's topic in Stormlight Archive
I really don't see how one has to do with the other? If Kaladin did have an Honorblade Szeth totally could have tetrieved it and brought it to Taravangian, who could then find a use for it to serve the Diagram. However Kaladin does not have an honorblade, and Taravangian knows this, but tells Szeth the lie because otherwise Szeth would no longer be bound to serve the oathstone. Taravangian wanted to maintain control of his tool. Likewise he ordered Szeth not to kill Kaladin because that would show that Kaladin was not using an honorblade which would lead to Szeth no longer being bound to the oathstone. -

Question about the 10 honorblades
WeiryWriter replied to fievelgoespostal's topic in Stormlight Archive
I think we can rule it out completely, I think it is quite clear that Taravangian is making it up on the spot. Notice how he orders Szeth to avoid Kaladin, right after Szeth say that he will kill him and take back the honorblade? if Szeth killed him, no honorblade would have appeared, and Szeth would have known that Taravangian was lying to him. -
Question about the 10 honorblades
WeiryWriter replied to fievelgoespostal's topic in Stormlight Archive
He isn't, he just made that up on the spot to maintain his control over Szeth. -
Oh wow, that is pretty spot on. I know that when Brandon/Isaac have discussed making the maps that Isaac had a lot of freedom in the final empire map but for Roshar Brandon gave him something and said "this is the shape to make it". I think we just figured out what he gave Isaac?

So this isn't a cover but kelseirs on tumblr wrote an original song "There's always another secret" about Kelsier. And it is fantastic. http://kelsiers.tumblr.com/post/82829930760/you-thought-you-could-get-rid-of-me-in-the

Pretty nice! I can't say I'm exactly a fan of Shasnah (mentor/mentee romantic relationships really aren't my jam, too close to parent/child for me) but from the looks things so far in this fic their relationship is different enough that it is not bothering me. I'm not totally sold as of yet, but I think I'm open the possibilities in this fic. The setting seems really fun, I like sci-fi but I don't read very much of it (seriously whenever I read sci-fi I berate myself for not reading more) so I really like the sci-fi setting but with familiar names. I am curious about how you are going to adapt other stormlighty things like what Joe mentions. Oh, and please tell me you have a most horrible death in store for Kabsal?

Nothing formal I believe. Though it is something I believe is likely, what with the Herald of War (Talenel) showing up in the capital of the kingdom dedicated to the arts of war (Alethela/Alethkar).

Yes we are. Here is the relevent passage: Demoux has that scar. Also it is Blunt that refers to Galladon as Temoo. We do have confirmation that Demoux is one of the three, Grump is definitely Galladon and Blunt is from White Sand so by process of elimination...
