  1. Ok so I just had this crazy thought, Dalinar long before he was acting like a Radiant was the blackthorn, the supreme shardbearer. As such it is to be expected that he can do a few things the average shard bearer can't, I think that this combined with his ability as a Radiant to draw in and hold stormlight and the effects we know that has can adequately explain everything we have seen him do in Plate. His exceptional plate features are as follows: 1. He has a sensation of touch through his gauntlets. 2. He has exceptional speed and strength 3. He glows (so do the Radiants in his visions) 4. He on once benefits from some form of gyroscopic effect pulling him back on balance. My explanations are as follows: 1. Dalinar's view points dont really make this seem remarkable, its entirely possible that this isnt remarkable at all. 2. One consequence of holding stormlight is enhanced speed and strength... we know Dalinar is capable and while I dont have a source for this I thought I read somwhere that his gems were more drained than usual after the battle with the chasmfiend, his most dramatic exploit. 3. See 2. 4. This is the one my theory struggles with, it could be improved balance from the stormlight, although I honestly cant remember if thats a thing, or if I'm making it up to suit my theory, or again it is never explicitly stated to be an impressive thing, I just assumed it was, and from the discussions of it Ive seen/participated in, I think the majority of people here did too, although not all. So thats my idea, plate isnt extra super special, only super special like we've already seen, Radiants are just otherwise awesome. I would note that I'm not even sure I agree with this myself, but it is a serious and plausible theory, as far as I am aware.
  2. On an issue not pertaining to wikipedia not being around I would like to announce that I was quite amused to discover that in Mons the first shot and last shot plaques for British commonwealth forces are less that 30m apart and was less amused and more impressed to discover that my grand father was present as a scout sniper at not only the first battle (which I already knew) but at the last one also. I also stood on the modern replacement for the bridge his unit defended there in the first battle, sadly the older bridge is lost and I was only able to take photos of what I assumed to be the foundations of the original bridge.
  3. Well, it is my assertion that he is in the spiritual realm rather than shadesmar, although I cannot remember my source for that at present, otherwise I still find myself disagreeing, but this bit is purely opinion, not even a potentially imagined source from here on. I think its basically the same as becoming a ghost in Harry Potter, you choose not to move on and get to hang around and influence things a bit, but it probably takes more strength of will than the average person has which is why despite all the dying that has happened Kelsier is the only example of it in the cosmere.
  4. On the Nicrosil ferring, I think all they'd be able to do would be store investiture, and later become better at allomancy, if they stored enough they could probably briefly become an allomancer, or a complete feruchemist, but it would be effectively useless unless you could compound and achieve that for a long period of time (assuming it takes a lot of investiture to go from ferring to feruchemist etc).
  5. I dont know it seems to me like any half decent soulcaster would be as lethal as Jasnah in close quarters, in the kind of combat they seem to engage in its pretty easy to touch someone and if thats all you need to get a kill you arent worried about, you just became every enemies worst nightmare, turn a guy into smoke jump through the smoke and get the next guy before he knows what hit him...
  6. Jasnah is a Veristitalian historian, but I always assumed that was more like being a Modernist or a Post-Modernist or an Empiricist in our world, a way of thinking rather than an organisation.
  7. In regards to the people at the purelake, we have cnofirmation from brandon that one of them is Galladon, from Elantris, and that others are both from other worlds, one of whom we dont know as that book hasnt been published yet, while the other we should be able to recognise from their description, there is a thread on it somewhere. I need time to think about the rest, so I'll get back to you on that
  8. I would like to announce that tomorrow I will be leaving on a month long holiday to Europe to with my family. Probably wont be on in that time, except maybe tomorrow before I go to the airport.
  9. This person would be become incredibly powerful in that given magic system I think, although I think it would take training to learn how to utilise the different forms of investiture for feruchemy.
  10. Im pretty sure that Brandon has stated that anyone can receive breaths and once they have them use them to endow, but only people from Nalthis have breaths to begin with, not sure if they could then burn the tears of egli though.
  11. Its not neccesarily a fancy fabrial, but that it is what the people of Roshar seem to think it is.
  12. I dont like it, we have no evidence you need to be near a shardworld to enter shadesmar and I can't think of a single logical reason why you would need to be there. If anything it would make it more difficult because there would be more disruption in shadesmar due to the larger amounts of cognitive energy from all the sentient and potentially cognitively enhanced beings around.
  13. Im just putting it out there, the nightwatcher is either powerful enough to make a proper person without a blood weakness or not powerful enough to make Renarin and this still as happyman has already stated, doesnt seem like something the Nightwatcher would do.
  14. Im not sure I think its true, but Brandon did say we had seen several heralds...
  15. There is other evidence, the divine attributes of that order (creative/honest) match her personality, she achieved her first soulcasting with a garnet to make blood, the gem and essence of that order, which you have rightly pointed out is circumstancial, but still provides some evidence. EDIT: Ninjas and their ninjaing me... but now its been said twice.
  16. In regards to this I assumed that was more to do with the lack of stormlight than the lack of gems. however Jasnah needing the garnet to soulcast blood does change things, but I still think the rest of my comment holds true. The gems only crack when overdrawn and otherwise can be used indefinitely. Also I still think that Regrowth is a surge, the description says the wounds grew closed, every example of soulcasting we have is an instant change, so I'm fairly confident that it isn't soulcasting. It may be an application of another unseen surge, or a surge of its own, but I really don't think its soulcasting.
  17. See I assumed that saving regrowth meant saving the stormlight in the fabrial she was using to do it because she wasn't capable of it herself. Also I'm not sure thats how soulcasting works, the gems aren't sacrificed, or necessary. Shallan and Jasnah both take in the stormlight and soulcast of their own power (as far as I can figure), and the soulcasters use different gems for different essences because they arent as good as the surgebinders. In neither case is the gem destroyed unless it is drained to far too quickly in which case it cracks, not from being used to soulcast (necessarily) just from being overdrawn. (That bit I am sure about)
  18. The other major problem with Radiants plate not needing gems is how they would have worked out how to modify it. If the gems are there its a fancy fabrial, if they aren't the people who have the armour would have no understanding of how it worked and as such no idea how to modify it.
  19. I think it must be, most girls I know go about breaking, or ruining things very differently to how most guys I know do it, just for one example.
  20. Nice idea, but doesnt life sense peak at the 4th or 5th hightening, I cant be bothered checking but I remember that returned have the full life sense.
  21. Why? It would make sense for Hoid to give them a reason for existence, the Worldbringers were founded to preserve the knowledge being destroyed by the lord ruler so that one day when he fell it could be re-established. Hoid couldnt well tell the Worldsingers they were founded to give him somewhere to hide when he came back to visit.
  22. I can't remember the quote but Im pretty sure it says somewhere that the first fabrials were used to mimic the powers of the radiants and only more recently did they diversify into other things.
  23. whats your source for resourceful/dependable being stonewarden? as far as I was aware the only order we knew for sure was the Windrunners being protecting/leading because of Kaladin
  24. When shes telling Kaladin that Dalinar is better for having gotten rid of his blade, she specifically says 'thing' singular, she doesnt mention the plate, if she didnt like the plate she wouldnt have said singular thing and would also have mentioned the plate afterwards when Kaladin asked what thing she meant.
