The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Jondesu replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
Wait, really? I haven't met many people with the same issue. I have a headache that started Jan 2014 and has been constant since, but like you said, it fluctuates from day to day or week to week. Edit: Which is to say, I'm really glad you get a day (hopefully more) of just painful instead of debilitating. Those days are nice. -
That's fair enough. I'd imagine it still won't be a big deal, and you can do a game without tons of RP, as much fun as RP is. Glad you signed up despite the worries, though!

Is it "problematic" to want to be neurotypical?
Jondesu replied to M_thraun's topic in General Discussion
@Tristan, I can identify with a decent amount of that, though it seems our personalities are fairly different. I have dealt with anxiety and depression for a long time too, and I'm still in a very low point overall, though I've backed up from having actual suicidal thoughts. For me, though? I'd absolutely take a "cure" for this. It nearly took my life, and I need it to change. I'm taking medications to help, in fact, but they're far from a cure. -
I relate to Kaladin a lot, personally. I get these negative thoughts drilling into my brain, and associations with other negative things (like his fixation on the lighteyes), and it just drags me down. I haven't been through the same hell he did, but I had my own to go through, and still am, and I've had my chasm moment too. He feels like a twin with a far worse lot in life but similar thought processes.

Had a weird one last night, or the night before last, I can't remember at the moment. My son (he's 5) and I were spending the night in…I think it was a room in my Grandpa's house, but for some reason we had a tent and a campfire and stuff in there. I was trying to figure out how to make it a really rugged experience for him, and somehow I decided we should get a pig (a small one), butcher it, cut it up, and cook it ourselves. In that room. Which apparently my brain realized made it absurd to have a campfire in, so we were just going to use a little camp stove (and yes, my brain registered and yelled at me several times that the gas buildup from a propane stove would be a horrible idea in a small room, and yet my mind didn't edit that part out). So we go get this little pig, which looked somewhat…cartoonish? But still very much a pig, and I took a knife, and had a very gory few minutes of (spoiler for the gore) Then, we cooked up our meat, and got ready to eat, and my mind suddenly jolted me and I got super scared, because I'd forgotten something: My wife is vegetarian. And my son is for now too (we'll let him decide at some point if he wants to eat meat, with full knowledge of what it is, but since I'm not vegetarian, without a specific judgment either way). And my wife would be pissed at me if I just fed him pork without clearing it with her first and making sure he understood. I had been talking it through with him while we were cutting it up, and in fact, I did have a real-life (non-dream) conversation with him about a similar topic last week, which is doubtless where this came from, but I decided I couldn't feed it to him that night. So instead, we left and had sandwiches. And that was it. Bizarre.

Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings
Jondesu replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Ok, wow. I just did some analysis of the players I mentioned, and I can tell you this right off the bat: Randuir and Len post a lot. Randuir moreso by a decent margin this game, at least. Len: Seems to be following his standard procedure. Mixing in some helpful plans/tips for the village, some analysis, some GM questions, and lots of bandwagoning. Not completely without reason usually, but he's definitely prone to that. Nothing so far has stood out to me as particularly unusual, but I'm always wary of him. For now, though, a neutral read, not exceptionally likely to have been converted I think, due to the attention he's attracted at times, with votes on him each cycle. Lopen: Hasn't been as active as Rand or Len, but still posting quite a bit. He's also had some questions, though more for other players like Aman than the GM, and has asked a fair bit about the Uber powers, at least back in the early cycles. That could easily be cover for already knowing what the Inquisitor can do, but it seemed genuine. Leaning village for now based on his overall posts, but would have been a fairly good choice for conversion. Randuir: Posting a whole lot of questions, RP, suggestions, big analysis posts. His tone is a lot like LG30, which doesn't really help him, but I haven't played enough games with him to know if he's got any obvious tells, or if that's how he'll always play. Wary, but I didn't see any specific content that makes me suspicious. Would have been a pretty good choice for conversion as well, though someone lower profile is more likely. Ecth: He's been lurking. Stated several times that he was behind on the thread and was trying to catch up, sounds like he's had a genuinely busy life recently, but…that strikes me as exactly the type of person who would turn down Aman's challenge and kill him instead, and who would try to fly under the radar by not being inactive, by placing votes, but being very circumspect so far. @Ecthelion III, do you have an explanation for how sparse your posting has been so far? You're my top suspicion at the moment, and I'd place a vote on you if this was a day cycle. -
You know, I'm not sure that's been asked. I don't know if we're actually aware of whether Chromium targets metals or Investiture. If it's the former, there'd be no effect. Since metals on Scadrial aren't actually Invested anyways (not anymore so than anything else), my guess is it's only really good for that.

Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings
Jondesu replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@OrlokTsubodai, there's no countdown in the writeup, btw. EDIT: D'oh, just realized there hasn't been for any of them. Oh well, that's how much attention I've been paying. -
BTW, if anyone is feeling like they're not sure because they don't know the source material, not only should you go read it (it's not that long, really), but it shouldn't matter. The roles and abilities Sart is using are just basically translations of the normal rules, but with some cool approaches to how they're used, so nothing will be over the head of anyone who hasn't read The Rithmatist. There's no excuse for not having read it, though.

Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings
Jondesu replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Whoops, I'm used to rollovers being later in the day for me, so I didn't get back to change my vote. No harm done, but I don't like not doing something I said I would. I'm not surprised by Drake being a villager, as I said, but I would guess that the Inquisitor didn't vote on him (the convert might have, however). I want to anazlye Elenion, Randuir, Ecth, and Lopen's posts, as the ones I mentioned I was the most suspicious of. I'll try to get that done and post a summary of my thoughts before the end of the night turn. I don't expect to be too high priority of a kill or convert, but I think I've got a good idea going and I don't want to risk it being lost. -
Alright, barring any unforeseen or foreseen circumstances that might require me to back out, I'll sign up as Kyle Remart (to keep part of a name for consistency). RP of reason for discharge: The officers face was still clear in his mind. The scowl. The rage. The fist. Except it was his first, not Corporal Greer's. He had cocked his fist back and hit the Corporal right in the nose. Why had he done that again. The acid. He'd seen wild chalklings swarming under the doorway to the civilian's home, and he'd sprung into action, pouring his bucket of acid under the doorway without even looking inside first. The chalklings had been dissolved, but the evidence had been destroyed, and Corp Greer hadn't believed him. Why should he? Kyle wasn't known for his honesty or intelligence. He knew he was smart enough, but he'd made too many mistakes for anyone else to believe that. ADD was a killer, especially in a place of strict discipline like the Nebrask Army. So Corp Greer had berated him for wasting the acid. Big deal. Except he'd decided to go a step further and tell Kyle that even if there had been wild chalklings, a mere Private wouldn't have been qualified to decide if the civilians in that home were worth the cost of a bucket of acid. The punch was worth it. So was the dishonorable discharge, and being shipped home in handcuffs. After all, Kyle wouldn't ever have to see Corporal Greer's ugly face again. Even if he was eaten by chalklings in the battered section of the circle they were being dropped off at, Kyle figured that was a worthwhile tradeoff. Mostly.

Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings
Jondesu replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Alright, I'm awake and feeling a little better, so I did a bit of number-crunching (well, vote tally mostly), since my analysis in AG3 and LG30 proved useful to me, which focused more on the raw data. So far (and some of this could of course change), the following people haven't cast any votes at all (this doesn't include those who voted and then retracted votes, that will come in a minute): HH Spartacus Kipper Magestar Manukos Meta OmeGaster Silverblade Yitzi These people didn't vote D1, but have voted D2: Araris Bugsy DA Drake Figberts Hero Wilson Ornstein voted D1, but then retracted it (voted on Sart, a confirmed villager). Drake didn't vote D1, and has voted on D2 but retracted it (on Wilson). My working theory is that the Inquisitor probably did vote D1, to not be called out for inactivity (or for holding back, like Drake), and has probably voted this round too. Retracting both votes seems somewhat unlikely, but it's possible Ornstein could be our Inquisitor. I doubt it, though. More likely, the above list is relatively clear (for being the Inquisitor, but not for being the converted Elim), and the Inquisitor is one of the following: Arinian Elenion Mark Ecth Me Drought Lopen Aonar Randuir Rae Obviously, I know I'm not, and I'm leaning village on Arinian, but the others I'm relatively even on. I voted for Mark first round, but while I didn't go back and retract it, it wasn't a very strong suspicion in the first place. I've already commented on the bandwagon on Drake, which I think is coming from a legitimate village-leaning accuser and is on a villager, which is far too common for bandwagons like this. Elenion and Randuir are currently the only ones who both voted D1 and are part of the Drake bandwagon. Elenion's known for bandwagoning, so that's not suspicious in and of itself. Randuir I have to be wary of, but I haven't seen anything specific in his posts to call out. I think it might have been safer for the Inquisitor not to join this bandwagon anyways, so I'm leaning towards Ecth (voting on Elenion right now), or Lopen (retracted two votes already). I'll cast a vote when I get back from some errands I have to run right now. -
Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I speak from experience here: depression sucks. I'd say don't believe the negative thoughts in your head, but I know I'm horrible at actually achieving that myself, so mostly I hope you have people there for you. That literally saved my life. -

Kolo? Sorry, couldn't resist. I'm at a birthday party right now, so I'll try to add more later. -
So I wanted to revisit this, and figured it was worth bringing back this thread even though it's definitely a necro. I've got three verses I thought would be good, but decided to split them into three songs. Tentative titles and the lyrics I have so far for each one. I don't like that last one quite as much, but I'll play around with these.

Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings
Jondesu replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I can't find it in the rules, but I was pretty sure we had confirmation that the Inquisitor got one action plus the conversion. If I'm wrong that'll be good, but I'm reasonably certain someone said that, possibly Orlok. @OrlokTsubodai, could you confirm if the conversion counts as the Inquisitor's one action? Wilson, I do understand the difference between what Drake said and was doing, but I still don't really feel like that's what he was saying. I think he was suggesting we look for inconsistency from one round to another. Perhaps I misunderstood him, but if that is what he meant, then it doesn't seem to cast doubt on him in the same way. You do have some additional and very good points, and he's certainly suspicious for those reasons, but I don't think the particular "inconsistent" statement that DA referenced makes him suspicious. -
Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings
Jondesu replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
@Darkness Ascendant too, I have to say, Bugsy is right about Arinian not having Elim buddies to place and remove votes on, though I don't think it clears him. Drake, however, I don't think that casts much suspicion on him. I'm fairly inconsistent sometimes too, but it really does derive from either not having a good plan or changing my plans as I learn more. The Inquisitor started with an advantage, and I doubt they've changed plans much, nor did that post of Drake's read particularly Elim-y to me. I don't think it's particularly likely that Meta put in an order ahead of time and is intentionally staying off the boards to avoid suspicion now, but it's possible. I want to let him come back before I would place a vote on him, though, since I totally get RL issues interfering if that's the case. DA, you're reading fairly neutral to me, and while those big analysis posts sometimes set off my suspicions, that one felt fairly genuine. Bugsy, you're reading kinda Elim to me, though, with that talk of placing the vote on Drake simply because of DA's analysis, but not stating any of your other reads except Drought. Talking about someone else having a list of suspicions but not sharing them, but then mostly doing the same, strikes me as very odd. -
Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings
Jondesu replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Thanks, Rae. I'd be all for a coinshot taking either of them out, or we can lynch them in the name of the Crusade if we truly have no other suspicions, but it does seem like it'd be a waste. If I were the Inquisitor, it does occur to me that there might be some logic in converting an inactive, but I doubt I'd do that the first time. I'll try to put together more along with a reasonable suspicion vote, but it'll have to be in the morning probably. -

Thanks, Aonar, I didn't go back and double check that, I'm on mobile and didn't spend time on it. I was neither converted, nor did I snap, btw. -
Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings
Jondesu replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
I expect that means that the person who was converted was a Coppercloud, so a new one has been snapped to make up for that. I think that was discussed during the night cycle in fact. -

Decreasing our numbers doesn't help in and of itself, but that's unavoidable. What we have to do is make the deaths meaningful. Learning everything we can from voting patterns is what makes it worthwhile. -
Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings
Jondesu replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
This early the odds are always high that we'll get villagers, and far more so in a game like this (we literally had a 1 in 28 chance of hitting the single Inquisitor, since there are no other Elims yet). Making it useful and informative is always good, though, and I think this round of voting was probably informative with all the vote changes. Even bandwagons can tell us about the people that join them sometimes. -
Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings
Jondesu replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Everyone, I'm all for the Crusade, but let's remember something: the Inquisitor is likely not completely inactive. They might just be inactive in the thread, and still sending in orders, but I very seriously doubt they're among the fully inactive. Spartacus has only logged in one time, to post that he would join the game, and literally does not appear to have even viewed the forum since then. I will fully support getting rid of him, though as a new player I tend to cut some slack, but he's 99% guaranteed not to be the Inquisitor, I believe. This will be a wasted lynch if we bandwagon on the truly inactive. -
Long Game (3)2: Pulling on Strings
Jondesu replied to Orlok Tsubodai's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Ah, good point, I hadn't considered that. Hopefully we can avoid lynching a Misting, then, since I think Smoker is one of the less harmful roles to let the Elims have.
