Official Star Wars Episode VIII Spoiler Topic
Jondesu replied to Briar King's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I've been convinced for a while that Luke plans to end the Jedi/Sith, Light/Dark dichotomy, and he'll be coming from a place of understanding both the Dark and Light sides of the force and being able to control them both within himself. He tried doing things the "right" way, but when Ben turned on him, he sought out the first Jedi Temple, they said. I think he discovered/realized that the whole system was built on a flaw, and that reaching balance inside each Force user is what's important, rather than balancing the Force. A Grey Jedi, essentially, if you're familiar with the EU. -
I'm the same way here, and it's been tough. I love reading, too, and right now, for instance, I have a couple of really interesting books, both some digital copies and some physical copies, but most of the time I can't even get myself to read either. I play a lot of really casual games on my phone to get through, and a racing game on my Apple TV. I used to use playing and writing music as an outlet, but for a while now, I haven't been able to get up the energy or the motivation to do that either.

My guess is that the raid was actually something done by a rival house. Likely with care taken not to reveal who it was so they didn't face reprisal, but probably either in retaliation for something or to steal something like Atium or other valuables. I got the impression that was done, maybe not regularly, but commonly enough that they employed the Hazekillers precisely for that type of situation, primarily.

I'm personally of the opinion that Shallan won't be able to duplicate that, and that it was likely only possible by combining the Surges of Transportation and Transformation. I could always be wrong (I'm good at that, heh), but it just strikes me as a very logical and Brandon-esque explanation.
-
I'm copying out each part here because they deserve separate answers: Say someone with access to the transformation surge travels to Sel. Do you think they'd be able to soulcast? With access to either Stormlight or a means to convert energy from the Dor or another source of Investiture, I imagine so. The CR on Set might pose an issue, but if they're only viewing it and not trying to enter it fully when they Soulcast (which is the normal way, it appears), I suspect that wouldn't be an issue. Since the cognitive realm is really dangerous, would it even be possible? As above, I think traveling there would be tricky, but it can be done (see Hoid), and once they're there, I doubt it would pose an issue for Soulcasting specifically. Could spren even follow their radiant there? We have a WoB that says it's possible, but would be difficult and might require some extra knowledge (in fact, I would bet it would, considering it would for Cognitive Shadows, though they're obviously fairly different from spren). Confirmed possible, but we don't know what impact it would have on the spren or if they would manifest differently in the physical realm on a different planet. If not there's still Honorblades, could they soulcast? Since soulcasting, at least for Shallan involved going into Shadesmar. The Honorblades I would actually bet would have a harder time being taken away from Roshar than a spren. See, they're directly tied to the Oathpact from what we can tell, and since we believe that's likely what's keeping Odium in the Rosharan system, and I think we also have it confirmed that the Heralds would find it very difficult if not impossible to leave Roshar, I would be surprised if you could take the Honorblades to Sel, at least without a huge amount of effort and hack, maybe Shardic-level power. I'm not sure if I remember this correctly, but I think that windrunners have a little protection against the air friction and other natural stuff that could hurt them, so maybe Elsecallers or Lightweavers (more likely Elsecallers) might have extra protection in shadesmar. And if Elsecallers DO have extra protection in the cognitive realm, could one of them be able to put Dominion and Devotion back together? I think there's some built-in protection, but only minimally. It's more simply that any damage that is done, they can heal with Stormlight. Like Steelrunners or other Allomancers, though, they should at least get enough benefit to avoid killing themselves with the basic applications of it. The Elsecallers and Lightweavers only get to Shadesmar by virtue of what they can do, though, rather than it being an inherent part of the power itself, so I don't think they'd have any protection there, and certainly not from the remains of two Shattered Shards (which apparently have mostly merged into one entity, the Dor, minus whatever splinters of each may reside in various locations). If anyone's going to reassemble D&D, it might have to be another Shard (or even a dual-Shard like Harmony, considering it's two Shards on Sel). Obviously, most of this is opinion, though there's backup for several of these points in the form of WoBs that I didn't quote (because I'm not the best at finding them and didn't feel like trying right now).

What are you playing right now?
Jondesu replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Just grabbed Lego Batman 3 from Steam, on sale, with the Season Pass that has some extra DLC's. I've always enjoyed the LEGO games, though usually I've played them with a friend. The Marvel Superheroes one was the first I played entirely on my own, and this will likely be the second. -
Is crem a waste product or by-product of something else happening in the highstorms? Brandon called it Shardpoop once, albeit in response to someone asking if it was spren poop, but it seems possible that it's merely a waste product from an Investiture-related occurrence within the highstorm, possible even something to do with the Perpindicularity we believe is within the storm.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Nah, it was pretty chill, and @Darkness Ascendant, no vision issues either when it happened. Hopefully the Mayo Clinic can shed some light on what's been going on, next week. Edit: I did realize that I'd had my wife cut out most of my meds for a few days because they haven't been doing any good and I hit a really low point and was really frustrated. Scary thing is, despite feeling like Shardpoop every day, apparently at least one of the meds (I think I know which one) was keeping it from being even worse. Hopefully that means I can avoid it being that bad again. -
From the trailer, it appears that he's sent there after the destruction of Asgard. I'm sure the movie will have more to it, and it may have been misleading in the trailer, but he may be just about the last surviving Asgardian.

Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I don't think it was a migraine, though I've had those too. It's faded back down to my usual level now, finally. I don't know if it could have been stress, I was just laying in bed watching a video when it kicked in. -

I'm in so much pain right now I'm nauseous. Not sure if I had a spike in blood pressure or something, but my headache just went off the charts. -
Not Wift? Wait, yeah, Layne is better.

Still almost a week before it starts. :-) If you want any help RPing, we can help, or you can just enjoy the game without it.

A little theory on Heleran
Jondesu replied to Did Someone Say Kill Evil?'s topic in Cosmere Discussion
Renarin is not a strong-willed person, though, and already suffers from epileptic fits. He would have had little chance of withstanding the screaming and continuing to be effective. Helaran is much more strong-willed, standing up to his father without any visible fear, and would be far more likely to be able to do that if it's possible. I'll note that Relis, when he heard the screams, was emotionally and mentally sent into shock, but he wasn't expecting it, nor did he have any actual physical impairment because of it. The argument that Helaran shouldn't have died so easily if he could breath in Stormlight is compelling, though. I think that most likely rules out Helaran being a Radiant if he was indeed the Shardbearer that Kaladin killed. -
Ooh, good point, I'd forgotten Felt. He definitely would have an advantage there I'd assume.

I don't think we know that it's a mold, not to mention that the LoP chapters aren't actually canon yet (fainlife is, but the actual specifics may well change). It grows like a mold, sure, and I agree that it's likely it couldn't get near a star, but we really don't understand it. What if it took over an entire planet, and the orbit destabilized, and the entire planet crashed into the sun? A magical "mold" might well survive and be able to corrupt the gaseous components of the star. I'm very doubtful that that's what's actually going on, but I definitely don't think it's out of the realm of possibility entirely.

It's an interesting thought, and we do have several examples of worldhoppers on Roshar, but no real reference point as to their strength in relation to gravity. Zahel/Vasher never really does anything…active when we see him (usually he's just lounging around and trying not to do anything active, in fact), Hoid certainly moves around a lot but he's hardly a good reference point, nor does he display any particular extra strength. The three worldhoppers in the Purelake would probably be our best bet, but we didn't see enough of them yet to know.

It is helpful to think of it as 2D geometry/geography, I think, though. How it equates to the Physical Realm is a mind-bender, as is being discussed, but in terms of understanding how the Cognitive itself looks and how to travel around, thinking of it as a completely flat "land", in the sense of not being globes but all on the same plane, that is helpful.

Someone put together a flow chart of what you should read and in which order. You'll enjoy it even if you don't read the series' in the order there, no doubt (though don't read any series out of order of course), but it could be really helpful. It's over on StackExchange: http://scifi.stackexchange.com/questions/85905/reading-order-for-cosmere-series-by-brandon-sanderson (scroll down)

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
Storms that sounds awful, DA. Sorry, man, and hang in there. It really does sound like a terrible situation, but you can break free of them. It'll just take time. At least you're very aware of what's going on and that it's wrong, which is a huge step towards escaping and avoiding becoming like that yourself. You got this, man. -
We've all known for a while that you're an evil genius, I think, Twi.
-
Fair, @Pagerunner, and we'll have to see when the movie comes out. I'm just not anticipating that particular theory to be fact. Also, I realized that I've recently begun playing Marvel's little mobile game called Contest of Champions, in which you're part of gladiator fights organized by The Collector. Basically exactly what we saw in that trailer, though the game has a pretty different feel to it.
