  1. Actually, this is an interesting one. See, while the Scadrian diseases might not be that deadly to Rosharans, like the sniffles we know about, Rosharans may simply not really have any diseases that would spread to the Scadrians. They're so healthy that a bunch of people with a mild cold is a plague, remember? Being infused with Stormlight and/or whatever other factors lead to that on Roshar may mean there simply isn't anything they could pass to the Scadrians. Of course, it's also possible that there's now super-bugs on Roshar since they'd have to be really hardy to even survive, and that those would be crazy deadly to the Scadrians, but that doesn't seem exceptionally likely to me.
  2. Arinian, I have to agree, actually, that sounds really manipulative and sketchy. I can't see any good reason to approach the question of fields in that way.
  3. PM Safety is easy when you don't use PMs. Actually, I've just been not as involved as I'd prefer, so I've only responded to PMs sent to me and haven't made any of my own. Oh well, at least I'm not at risk of a tuition increase based on that. Also, I know I didn't RP or complain last cycle, and I don't know if I will this cycle. There's not much to go on until abilities can be used, and while some of the analysis of actions (like purchasing the gram) could be useful, too many things could easily be explained as either student or skindancer. I know we need to take the complaints seriously even though they're not a lynch that would take someone out of the game, but I don't see the point in filing complaints without reason (especially after my mistake earlier). If I see something I'll file one, but otherwise I'll probably do a lot more lurking this game than I have in previous games.
  4. Japanese is tough, but it's far simpler than Chinese, which doesn't even have a native alphabet. I know some Japanese, and yeah, I'll never learn most of the kanji probably, but it's actually simpler than some of the other Asian languages by quite a bit.
  5. There's a difference between your credit card issuer knowing where you use it (unavoidable and completely necessary) and the credit bureaus knowing, hence it affecting your score or credit report. Where you use your cards shouldn't affect your credit score at all.
  6. You're underestimating my ability to be oblivious to things. I also had missed that Hael was Edema, since I didn't look back at the player list before voting.
  7. Apologies, @Haelbarde, I didn't even fully comprehend the Edema Rah status, and I won't vote on you or any other Edema's without good suspicion. I'm glad you didn't end up being brought on the horns because of my mistake.
  8. You'll be missed! I find the whole discussion about voting on people for tuition reduction and to spread the vote around a suspicious activity, but I think most of those involved must be village, so I'm going to see if I can find any posts that look like they're more instigating than just agreeing. For now, though, I maintain a constant level of suspicion of Randuir, plus he doesn't have any votes on him yet, and I've got just a gut feeling about Haelbarde. The vote on Hael again won't do any damage, I suspect, so I'll try to provide more justification if I vote on him again.
  9. @Amanuensis, I also had a PM going with @randuir, and he was helpful to me too. I hope he didn't take a tuition hit since that's at least two PMs he started, but I appreciated it. However, I'm not as quick to lean village on either of you considering how easily you've both fooled me in the past. I'm not ready to vote on either of you either, but I'll be far more wary than I was in previous games.
  10. I picture her looking something like the Painted Lady from Avatar. Not entirely sure why.
  11. Yeah, the whole random vote thing didn't work, did it? I know I didn't really comment on it at the time, but I also didn't want to participate. Sorry for not having more discussion, btw, but this is a bit overwhelming and I've had to put my brainpower into real life stuff right now. As for tactics going forward, I definitely agree that we can't ignore the lynch. We don't find out about the players we lynch directly, sure, but as Aonar said, it can really help us (going forward) to identify who gets blocked from performing actions. At the same time, knowing what actions people take is only moderately helpful since it doesn't really tell us alignment right away, but that doesn't diminish the value of finding it out early, and then using that knowledge later once those actions are being used to sabotage or help the students. I will attempt to read over the last cycle again to see if I gain any firmer suspicions, but right now I don't really have any, and since no one's been elevated, I don't think we'll really see any actions this cycle either, so the voting should be less essential (discussion is critical, though). Does anyone wish to reveal which fields they put EP into last cycle? Is it wise to encourage revealing that, in fact, or should we keep it to PMs, and only cautiously then, since they can't really be fully trusted? I'm guessing there was discussion about this during the pre-game that I didn't really catch, but rereading that would take forever right now. The following RP has some game insights in it disguised as Vell's thoughts, but some (like the courses she studied) is only for RP. I put all my EP into one field, which I think is probably wise for most people, early on especially, but I'm going to wait for thoughts to be shared before revealing which field publicly. I'll try and start a few PMs, btw, and would welcome any that anyone else wants to send me, especially since receiving PMs doesn't seem to count towards the post/PM ratio. Vell panted a bit as she reached the hall where her next class was taking place. She'd never thought she was out of shape; working as a butcher's daughter kept her busy, and she'd done plenty of walking as she delivered packages for him around their village. This University was about 4 times the size of her entire village, however. There were dozens of buildings, all in various areas, and she occasionally had to run across the entire place to reach another class. She'd enrolled in a variety of subjects so she could find out what fields would call to her, and only recently had she realized that had been a bad idea. Not that feeling out the different subjects was a bad idea, but each field had their own area of the campus, and that meant that she had lots of traveling to do each day. Her legs had never gotten so much work, despite the fact that she also spent plenty of time sitting in her classrooms or out in the courtyards or her room as she studied or practiced her lessons. Vell had been so busy, in fact, she hadn't really had time to make any friends. There were a few classmates she would occasionally share jokes or notes with, but they were merely acquaintances at this point. She barely remembered many of their names, in fact, since there were so many students here. That would have to be remedied at some point, perhaps if she spent some time in Imre, but for now she was barely getting by. The tuition was being paid, fortunately, as was her lodging, though she wouldn't have much extra, maybe a few drabs. The list of possible ways to lower her tuition had intrigued her, though, and the idea of having some spending money was compelling, so she'd have to put some work into those. If she could find the time.
  12. Wait…I just merged the mental images of Lopen and Deadpool. That hand…it's so tiny!
  13. Aww, Wilson, that almost makes it worse, but I was impressed not only that you used that method successfully but that you so quickly convinced everyone. I applaud you.
  14. I think I'll include a Gunsmith or something similar in my Taldain game. It's a role I'm familiar with enough that I can balance it without much trouble (I'll still consider this a basic game that way), but it'll be something new to this community it sounds like. Good to know it's not completely out of the blue, but it's still very unique. I'll probably require those with guns to use a particular color in the thread when they announce that they're using them. The target will immediately stop posting, though that can be reversed if the GM says it was invalid (I'll count on the players being honest about it, though), and their role won't be revealed until it's confirmed that it was a valid kill.
  15. I hope not, that sounds like a cheap way to get some free money while skirting the rules. Elbereth can of course make the call, though. I'm curious, how much of what we do is public vs only in our role PM? The field(s) we study, for instance: are those publicly known, or only to us? Where we're lodging?
  16. Thanks! Now I know where Yll is for my RP. (South of the University, which is in the Commonwealth, and on an island, so there would have been a boat/ferry ride, for those who are curious.)
  17. Vell looked around the room as she prepared to settle in for her first semester at the University. She wasn't prepared for this, but her father had been able to secure her a spot despite her low status, and she couldn't let him down. He'd even managed to buy her some supplies and a text to learn a small amount of Alchemy ahead of time, and she suspected it had cost him a good bit of both money and risk. Of course, the old book had been too obscure and too obtuse for her to learn much, and practicing was almost impossible, but she'd told him it was helpful, and that she would secure a spot in the University for herself. She actually wasn't sure she wanted to continue learning alchemy; it had an unfortunate side-effect, in that one tended to lose one's mind. Even that wouldn't worry her too much, except she knew her father would need her to be able to send some money back to him soon, though he'd never admit it. That was a large part of the reason she was here. Their family's business was well-reputed and her father lived comfortably enough, but new competition had settled in, and in a relatively small city, that was bad news. Even if the competition didn't run them out of town, any lost business could add up quickly. She quickly stowed her sack of belongings and checked the bed for pests; it seemed clean, which was nicer than some of the inns she'd stayed at on the journey here. The Yllish people didn't merit much attention from most, so while she hadn't been accosted or abused, she also had been largely ignored and only given the most basic rooms at any inn, regardless of how much she might have been willing to pay. It was probably better to have saved the money anyways, but she had a rash covering a large portion of her back that was making it difficult to sleep, and she could certainly have done without that. Taking a small notebook and pen with her, she headed down to the courtyard of the University to see if she could meet someone new, and perhaps learn more about some of the other subjects. Maybe she could keep her mind a little more intact than she had originally expected… Alright, there's some RP, and I didn't decide until I started writing this post that Vell would be female. I have read the rules, but I know I don't fully comprehend them, so I may be less effective than I'd prefer. Also, I will likely be headed out of town sometime this upcoming week or the next, and if so, I will not have access to a computer for about two weeks. I'll have my iPad and phone, so I can still participate, but that will significantly reduce my ability to analyze, and it will potentially be a busy schedule if so (I'll be at an inpatient headache clinic, hopefully getting some relief, but I would bet my time will be in demand). I won't abandon the game if at all possible, but I know I won't be able to be as involved as I'd like. If anyone would like to offer advice to Tell, she'd appreciate that, and if anyone has suggestions for me as a player, I'd like that too (via PM, perhaps, unless it's all generic like the advice I've already seen before D1, which was interesting but sometimes a bit overwhelming).
  18. I would think it should look evil, considering it's Melkor.
  19. Yeah, I really wish I'd reached out to you to try to convince you (not that there's any guarantee it would have worked), but I was convinced you must be an Elim. By Seonid, I think, and Rand, so it wasn't the Elims misleading us there. I really didn't think Len and Joe were Elims. I wish we'd caught him two or three cycles earlier! Maybe we could have actually lynched him.
  20. Edit: I used the concept art from Ben McSweeney that's on the Wiki for this.
  21. Hah, does that mean I technically win after all? And we almost pulled it off, I think. Unfortunately Seonid was exposed and his kill couldn't go through. Or maybe fortunately? I dunno. The village would have had a good chance if we'd found someone earlier, maybe, but once that many villagers were dead and we only had the one lucky lead, it was a long shot at best.
  22. I upvoted it because it was amusing. We'll figure out something to talk about D1.
