Mid-Range Game 22: My Little Perfidy
Jondesu replied to Herowannabe's topic in Sanderson Elimination
Huh, first time I've seen a draw. And @Herowannabe, were you implying in the RP that Schitzo is actually also a Changeling hiding among those kidnapped, and he and Jeeves will still work against everyone? That's…odd if so, but cool. Schitzo just might need to have a doctor check out his twitchy ear first. Sorry I kinda didn't participate as much as I'd like, ya'll, and dropped the ball on the RP after a bit, but good job to everyone, both teams included this time! We didn't let the Changelings win, even though we didn't really win either.- 628 replies

That's a good point, HH looked like he was going to be active. He does sometimes go inactive later in the game, so maybe Seonid took that into account (he'd be familiar with that), but not always. I kinda doubt he would have gone inactive if he was an Elim, though I suppose it could be a ploy of some type. I would tend to lean village on HH for that reason, though. I think I agree with the logic that led up to this, though I've seen Elims go at each other hard to avoid suspicion once one of them goes down. Still, your pairings make sense. Since I know I'm not evil, and that means if you're right, Araris probably is, I'm thinking Meta is evil, and probably either Manukos or Drought from the inactives (but like you said, weeding them out probably doesn't make a lot of sense right now, although the idea of keeping our active players around so the game continues to have discussion and villagers who are paying attention is certainly an appealing concept). Manukos is erratic, so he can be a wildcard player on either team, and I believe he's been evil before, so Seonid might have had some info to know whether he'd be a good one to balance the team or not. Drought is usually a good active player, but I believe he stated he had some IRL things that were going to keep him from participating as much? Either way, I can see him being put on the Elim team thinking he'd be a good asset for them, since he usually would be, and then obviously that's been thrown off by his inactivity this game. @Manukos, @DroughtBringer, you've been tagged before and haven't really returned (though I think Manukos posted at least once in the last two or three cycles, so he's not completely absent). We'd love to hear more from you! Of course, the other option would be that the Elim team consists of, say, Len, Meta, and Cloud, all active enough players, and that they're trying to make us assume there's an inactive player to get us off track. Right now, I'm fairly neutral on you, Len, since I reread your posts and didn't find anything I specifically could call out as suspicious, but I know you're good at appearing innocent or neutral when you're an Elim, so I can't rule you out either, not even close. I guess we'll have to see who dies tonight, and if that affects those pairings, but I agree that there's some distinct pairings we can probably eliminate as teammates.

Yeah, I'm hopeful that we've got plenty of leads, but we kinda need to hit an Elim. With that in mind, I looked over what little notes I had on Len and Cluny, and it's really down to gut on both, but of the two, nothing I can find in Len's posts is what's setting me off (just I think my usual paranoia of Len), so while I think I might prefer lynching Meta, I'll change my vote from Elenion to Cluny. No way I want to risk any vote tampering.

Elims like to be active enough to not have people asking why they don't post, but not so active they catch a lot of flak or get into debates often, since they tend to get undesirable attention that way (votes). I'm not sure you're really sitting there, though, considering you've had a vote or two at least every cycle I think. As for the Misting claim...we don't have any way to know if that's true, and I'm not sure how much it really matters, but I don't think you being a natural Seeker would make you any more likely an Elim. We do need to find the Elims, and I might vote on you if we need to secure a lynch (has there been any vote manipulation?), but Len is a bit more suspicious to me right now. I have to try to separate gut feelings from actual suspicions sometime, but considering I can't get myself engaged enough in this game (between RL stuff keeping me busy and just generally not being able to focus), I'm going to put that vote on Elenion, and if I get time to reassess and find a reason to switch, I will. Len, don't be upset, this is really just gut read and the fact that you have consistently deflected attention from you whenever possible (granted, that's usually just good playing, but you keep failing to mention yourself in groups that should clearly include you). @Araris Valerian, you and Yitzi both ninja'd me, and I was about to point out the same thing Yitzi did when he double ninja'd me. A Bronze spike wouldn't come with metal vials, so it wouldn't have been useable.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Jondesu replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
I'm not sure if I feel like someone's driving a wedge into my brain, or if I just want someone to. It hurts so bad. The barometric pressure changes from the storms we're having may be responsible, but it's hard to be sure. -
That's always a risk with turning a book into either a TV series or a movie, but if the pacing and arrangement was the same as the book, no one would follow it as a TV show. It has to be changed to include at least most of the main characters in each episode. I just figure we'll get a movie series hopefully along the lines of LotR: True to the original story while cutting where possible and necessary. They left out huge portions of those books at points, but at the same time, it's been one of the best movie trilogies of all time while remaining very true to Tolkien's overall story.

Originally, the Radiants (or rather, Surgebinders in addition to the Heralds) seemed to just be a response by the spren to the Heralds and the Desolations, but I do get the impression that they began to persist between Desolations, probably in small numbers since many would have been killed, but after the "Last Desolation", the organization seems to have grown larger and more of a "one world government" type thing. Obviously not completely, but what we've seen points to them basically being above and apart from all the governments on Roshar, and perhaps even feeling free to dictate to those governments. At the time of the Recreance, they were fighting something or someone, but it's not really clear who or what. This is what is described: That could be anything from Midnight Essence, Thunderclasts, Voidbringers, etc, to the Aimians (perhaps there was a connection to the scouring of Aimia?) to just another nation of "savages" or "devils" from the perspective of these soldiers. Whatever it was, though, it wasn't part of a Desolation, as you said, and it doesn't seem to have destroyed Alethela, nor Roshar's civilizations as a whole, though the fact that so much about it was lost could point to a period of significant chaos afterwards (in addition, of course, to the Vorin church destroying every record they could find about the Radiants). Tanavast also tells Dalinar during that vision that the ones he sees were the first, and they were also the last. I'm not sure if that means they were the first to abandon their Shards, and that the other orders were doing the same in other places, so it all happened exactly simultaneously, or if he was speaking more metaphorically, as in they were the last of the Radiants, not just the last to abandon their Shards. There's definitely some ambiguity in that phrase. I do agree that they could have been fighting other Radiants, but it seems like that would be odd considering what the officer said. He wouldn't have considered other Radiants to be "devils", unless there were some that had basically gone dark, perhaps one of the Orders that could have allowed for their Knights to attack others. I find that fairly unlikely, though. The Aimians actually seem like a good bet to me, since (Edgedancer spoilers):

He also claimed Day 1 that he wouldn't have done that, which now seems even more suspicious tied together with this latest post of his. As for Cluny, I thought someone else brought it up in this thread, but yeah, he could have gotten it from one of the stickies threads. I've read through those myself, and they can be helpful, so I wouldn't be surprised if he's read some of them too.

With PK, the whole situation just struck me as bizarre. We knew there was no way Orlok knew PK's role prior. Most people were assuming Orlok was either village or a really crafty Elim. It just all stunk to me, and the way the conversation was being driven towards the PK lynch (how many players voted for him?) made me really not want to join that bandwagon. Edit: 13. 13 players voted for PK. I don't absolutely detest bandwagons overall, but I find them suspicious or just annoying most of the time. At first I was just trying to make sense of what happened, then once Orlok claimed as Captain I started to put together some theories, and currently my working theory on what happened N0 was that the Elims goofed. Someone probably thought someone else was sending in the order or something like that. Maybe it was a brilliant distraction technique, but I can't imagine it was better than killing randomly or killing someone who might implicate someone else (that's often what I argue for when I'm an Elim). Basically, there was no reason for my vote to go on PK, and his lynch wasn't really going to give us any info, so while I knew it wasn't going to gain much traction without more information coming out, I offered what I thought was a more viable target. I was mistaken as was later pointed out, but at the time it seemed the smarter play, and I was pretty convinced that the Elims couldn't really have caused PK's situation.

No, it wouldn't. That was clarified before I believe. It's not an Allomantic action, which is what Hazekillers stop. Yes, it would have been announced had it been successful I believe.

That's…a very good question. The list of options is shortening, so I'm going to go down the player list (in the order they're listed) and see what we know: Hemalurgic_Headshot: Totally off my radar so far. I know he's posted, but I don't really have any particular read on him. The Flash: Just about confirmed village, though there's still the really paranoid theory that he's Elim Mistborn and this attack was a WGG. Very unlikely, though. Manukos: Also has been mostly off my radar Yitzi: Active, no real strong indications of alignment, but calling for hazekillers could be an Elim move to discover more roles, although it's also useful for the village. cloudjumper: Has been suspected by a few people so far. I haven't seen anything specific that I latched onto, but I haven't been able to give this game my full attention. Jondesu: Absolutely village DroughtBringer: Completely inactive, but said in the other game he had a busy time at school. @DroughtBringer, any chance you can return to this game? Elenion: Always suspicious to me as I've said in many games, but I try not to let that make me jump to conclusions. If I get a chance, I want to analyze some of his posts, but he could certainly be an Elim, although if he is, he's doing a good job at not making himself too suspicious (I think he's had a few votes here and there but has never been in real danger). Araris Valerian: The Ghost of SE Present. Seriously, this guy could be anything. I'd almost support lynching him simply for being so hard to read, but I definitely have nothing to go on with him. Metacognition: One of my top suspicions. He's been getting onto Flash a lot who's confirmed now to be village, although that's a risky move if he's an Elim, since it draws attention now. In fact, it makes me wonder if the Elims hit Flash partially to make those who were attacking him in the thread seem more suspicious, though they also had plenty of other reasons to want him gone. I dunno, without much in the way of metals (he can't have been passed much more I would assume, though hopefully I'm wrong) Flash won't be much of a danger. Still, would probably be okay with lynching Meta. Cluny: Drew suspicion from me and others early for a mistake, but I have decided that was not alignment-indicative. Still has been setting off my Elim-dar, on occasion, so would also support his lynch. Sart: Another person who often ends up being a ghost. Hard to get a read on, and hasn't posted that much (typical for him), but I'll see if I can analyze his posts. With 21 players starting the game, we should have 4-5 Elims, right? That means we have 3-4 left of the above list. I'm thinking one is probably mostly or completely inactive, so Manukos and Drought are good possibilities, and then I would bet the remaining 2-3 are among HH, Yitzi, cloudjumper, Len, Araris, Meta, Cluny, or Sart (I know, I'm just summarizing what I posted above). Probably the most suspicious of…Meta, Cluny, and Len. I did hazekill. I targeted…Ecth. –_– Yeah, didn't work out so well of course. It failed because he didn't take any actions, which makes sense now that we know he was a Metallurgist, and apparently I was joined in my suspicion of him by our Coinshot, so that's mostly a moot point now. I guess that means I just role-claimed too… oh well.

Wow. That was...unexpected. Glad you had the pewter, Flash, but Ecth? The writeup makes it sound like he was a Coinshot kill, while Flash was attacked by the Elims. Is that something we can accurately decipher from the writeup, @Drake Marshall? If so, I'm trying to figure out a reason someone would have attacked Ecth and whether the Ventures may have a Hemalurgic Coinshot (they would have had to get a vial from someone else, which seems unlikely) or if this was just an unfortunate vigilante kill. I wish I could just ask someone to claim it, but of course that would be foolish to do, since a Coinshot would definitely be a high profile target. Whoever you are, though, you might be out of Steel, but if you have more somehow, I hope you hit someone less vital next time. I'm guessing we don't have any more Metallurgists, though we'll find out tonight, and if so, we've deprived all of our village Mistings (and our Mistborn) of the opportunity to continue using their abilities.

Good. If BR had indeed managed to set up a PM between any Elim and the remaining Metallurgist, that's gone. Double bonus for us, and a huge thanks to whoever killed her (a Coinshot I assume). Good luck and good hunting tonight! I won't publicly suggest any targets so that you won't be easily blocked, but I hope your suspicions align with mine fairly closely.

BR was a Courier, so if they somehow figured out who the Metallurgist is, she'd have been able to set up the PM, though if it was with her, that line of communication would be gone. Let's hope. She could have set it up between the Metallurgist and any other Elim, though, so it's possible they would still have that contact in place if so. Of course, all of these ideas rely on a significant amount of luck for the Elim team early on. Maybe they do also have a Seeker who got really lucky with their first scan and found that Metallurgist (does the Seeker find those roles?). We'll see if they find another Misting tonight. Hopefully not. Hazekillers, this is probably a good time to think about using your ability on people you suspect, and since so many people have revealed and we're getting further into the game, one or two Hazekillers being revealed by being injured won't be too bad.

Ouch, definitely a possibility. I'd say maybe a thief too, but no one's reported having vials stolen. I suppose that would out them as a Misting, though, which they shouldn't want to do. If the Thief stole vials from someone, though, they could also let the Elims know in exchange for protection. Neither role loses if the Elims win, only if they don't survive (like poor Ornstein, though he wasn't exactly an active player).

Hey, I agreed you're probably village. Nothing's proven though, despite your arguments. One of the things you learn is to almost never consider someone absolutely cleared. There are very few games where that can happen, and even then usually under very rare circumstances. I don't take anything for granted. And yes, you're learning, and I hope you continue to improve.

Flash, I hope you're really learning from this game. Paranoid theories can be okay, but usually they just cost us villagers. In this case, a known and important role. Sure, he hadn't detained the right people yet (and I think he could have been more effective had he waited for better suspicions before detaining anyone), but he was basically proven village, and he essentially proved your Mistborn claim, which he wouldn't have had any reason to do if he was Elim. That almost clears you, though I'm wondering now if the Elims could indeed have a Mistborn. Giving them few other significant roles, and making the Mistborn a fairly new player, could certainly balance the game.
