Douglas looked around at the gathered dignitaries and other visitors, many of them either panicked or angry. This missile system seemed to be very poorly designed if the aliens could co-opt it so easily. He'd heard it was supposed to be foolproof. "A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools." He muttered under his breath. "Everyone, I know many of you work for or with the President, but we're finding out an important truth I've known for some time. Anyone who is capable of getting themselves made President should on no account be allowed to do the job." "Guess we'll have to pick up the slack." He would use his mindblades to protect himself from anyone he feared might be an alien, but only as a reaction to an attack on his person. Anyone else would have to fend for themselves. At this point, no one had done anything to get his senses attuned, but he'd keep his eyes, and his mind, open. He didn't expect this situation to remain under wraps for long, either. Nothing travels faster than the speed of light with the possible exception of bad news, which obeys its own special laws. (Note, I'm using multiple Douglas Adams quotes here, so I've put them in italics. Also, in case it wasn't clear, I recommend we all use Cytonics on someone, either a suspicion if you have one, or a random target if not. Later that may not be a good idea, but in these early rounds I agree with that tactic. No suspicions from me yet, but I should get a chance to post again at least once this day cycle, so I'll try to place a vote then.)

I mentioned this in the other game that's about to begin, but I'm heading to an all-day pain clinic (well, 8-4), so I'll probably only be on in the morning and evening, maybe around lunch. That's more limiting in a QF than in an LG, though, so if I feel I'm not participating well enough I may ask someone to just kill me off. I'll do my best though, and won't just drop out or stop playing.

Did Chasmfiends exist before the Shattered Plains were shattered? Do they pupate/metamorpihize from something much smaller, like a cremling?
-
There are some spoilers, but I can't remember right now where they fall in the series. Just finish the books tonight.

Fine, I'll sign up. Just a note, next Wednesday I head to an all-day clinic for 3 weeks, so I'll probably only get on in the evenings, maybe mornings sometimes. The weekends will be free, so I'll probably be able to be active the first cycle, but I'll be less active after that. Oh yeah, character. I'll be a Skaa Crew Member caught up in the noble (heh) cause. Albin Brodeur at your service (he made up the surname).

Remart strolled back to his bunk, having seen the medic and had his shoulder tended to. He lay awake in his bed, knowing from the comments he'd heard that tonight was likely to be his last, and he quieted his mind in preparation.

I don't, but I know you lost them all when you were detained, and the truly dangerous metals were never available to order. That means a Misting who started with them would have had to pass it (a Coinshot giving you Steel, for example), instead of just using it themselves. Unlikely, though a remote possibility. The Elims could probably consider you not much of a threat if they can order the metals and pass them to you if they're safe, and if Steel had become available to order, then they could just kill you off directly. I have no idea what you mean about a spike from Cluny. He never passed me anything, and as I'm not the Thief, I didn't take one from him. @Elenion, my theory doesn't hinge on Ecth working with them, it was just one possibility brought up previously. As for what's easier and quicker, we're dealing with a team that didn't kill N0, and has been erratic at best in who they chose since then, all apparently to confuse and misdirect us. I don't think this is that much of a stretch.

But see, it was already public knowledge that he had no metal vials. With one Metallurgist gone and the other possibly also in contact with the Elims, they could keep him equipped with metals that wouldn't hurt them, but have themselves pretty much fully trusted by the village Mistborn. It's an amazing gambit that seems to be paying off well. I wish I could come up with plans half that good when I'm an Elim (or when I'm a villager, I didn't have any good plans this game, except hopefully getting lucky with my Hazekilling).

The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Jondesu replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
I don't DM, nor do I play, but I have seen some maps made that way with Lego before, and they were pretty awesome. I imagine it comes down to you and the people that you play with, and you could either just try it and see how they react, or ask first and see what they think. -
Of course. I wasn't lying. Yeah, Flash is pretty much 100% confirmed at this point. Yes, I disagree strongly. I think that was essentially a WGG, just cleverly using a villager as the "wounded gazelle". It bought trust from Flash, who was going to be confirmed villager anyway, and let them hide more easily (Yitzi in particular).

As I've said, I do think the Elims are likely Araris, Meta, and HH, unless Araris or Meta is actually the Thief, in which case I'd look at Yitzi or, well, you.

Uh oh, I think there's a pretty angry man with a talking black sword coming to kill me soon. Hopefully I can rank up again before he finds me.

Not at all. As a Southerner, I know that "YA ALL" is contracted to "YA'LL", which can be plural or singular.

Wow, ya'll have just really made up your minds, haven't you? I figured I'd at least go down swinging, but you're not changing your minds now. Too bad I've got a whole conspiracy working against me. Ya'll probably only have another couple cycles before we lose and the Elims win.

Yeah, that's true. Easy enough for them to know that, though. Araris' "ghostliness" as you put it is just Araris in every game. Regardless of his role. He just drifts through barely noticed until he drops a bombshell. Like this claim to be the Thief. Bear in mind that with my working theory of colloboration with the Elims, Araris would know that you were stolen from even if he's not the Thief. @Elenion, Araris wouldn't have to know of the Thief's current activities via PM to still be working with them. Not only could there be codes they're using in the thread to communicate (you're familiar with some of those methods, I believe), but in this case, if Meta and Araris are working together (Meta as the Thief and Araris as the Elim in this scenario, but it could work a few ways), Araris could, at any cycle he needed an alibi, claim he stole from Meta, and Meta would back him up even if it's not true. There'd be a slight risk it would happen when someone else had something successfully stolen, but it'd be a risk worth taking to "clear" Araris (or for that matter, any of the Elims that was blocked could have claimed Thief with a setup like that, just obviously only one of them in the game). It's not a complicated setup, and I can totally see them setting up a contingency plan like that. If the Elims and the Thief found each other, they'd have plenty of reason to work together, with the Thief being given protection from the Elim kill in return for targeting villagers and depriving them of their items.

As far as we know, our couriers are all dead. BrightnessRadiant was an Elim courier, though, and it's entirely possible she set one up, or Stick may have set one up between you and an Elim (Meta or HH, probably), not realizing your roles.

Even more specifically, I think the Thief has been working with the Elims and feeding them info. Or else maybe Araris is telling the truth, but Meta is an Elim and will back up his claim of stealing something even if he didn't. It'd be an easy claim to fake, since there's no proof that can be offered, unlike the Hazekill.

LG34 that's running right now has two neutral roles (Metallurgist and Thief). Their win condition is just to survive, so they can work with either team or neither. Edit: the trick with a neutral role is to make sure they can still do something. Both of those roles have a purpose and actions they can take. I've also played IRL games with a role called the Fool. Their entire goal is to get the village to lynch them. If they succeed, they win and the game is over. It's a very interesting role because it makes everyone much more cautious with the lynch when they know that role might be in play.

Araris, I simply can't believe that claim. Plus, my proof is right in the writeup: it shows I was injured, and therefore roleblocked you. I have a lead on who the Thief might be, but I don't believe it's you. @Metacognition, confirmation from you would be nice to help everyone out.

Well that's a convenient claim. You did something that succeeded, but you're not going to tell us what? Can you at least tell us who you targeted with whatever action you supposedly took?

I targeted Araris. I was working on your assumption that one of the two of us was probably evil (like I said during the night), so I figured I'd see if blocking him blocked the kill. And what do you know? It did! You say you blocked Yitzi, who apparently was trying to block someone else, but since that means his Hazekill got blocked and he wasn't able to roleblock whoever he targeted, Araris must have been the one submitting the kill, or else they decided not to kill again for some reason, but that would be completely baffling if so. Edit: forgot to actually vote. Araris, you've been caught! The writeup shows myself, Yitzi, and Elenion all injured (right below the countdown clock).

Ack, I said no more QFs, but I remember you talking about this mechanism somewhere I think (defending yourself against a specific player), and I can't resist. I'll join as Douglas Adams.
