The 4th book is where it lost me completely. The second two were ok but really a let down for me after the first.

Correct. "Spice" is a drug the Dune Universe revolves around. Btw you should read it but just the first book.

@Goatbringer I totally agree about the flashback chapters taking you out of the narrative. I think it is especially bad reading it like we are 3 chapters at a time. That being said of the flashback chapters from the 3 books I find Dalinar's the most interesting. Shallan became my favorite main character in WoR and Oathbringer has only strengthened that feeling. I think she is the most interesting main character and actually like the dark implementations of her actions/personalities. I will say I usually prefer gray characters instead of Black and White (which is why I probably do not like Kaladin that much).

Most importantly what are we calling the new couple? MraiLai ? LalaIze?

It is possible it will go this way for sure but from what we have seen I am leaning more towards they have to make a choice to become voidbringers instead of it being against their will. I have nothing to base this on except for the fact they did not automatically become voidbringers it is just a gut feeling. Of course plenty of them can choose to.

100% agree on this. It is for sure the exact opposite of what i was anticipating. I guess that it exactly why I like Brandon's books so much.

I think you are right on this. Actually he may have meant specifically uniting humans and Parshendi. Dalinar took it to just mean unite the kingdoms.

Yeah I guess really the world building is the only thing we can care about being that besides that this is largely the precursor to what we’ve already read.

Or Brandon is intentionally trolling me. Yeah ok the monetary thing makes more sense I just didn’t read it that way initially.

One more thing. Did anyone else think it was odd Adolin said this? I guess I was surprised seeing HIM speak of investiture. Adolin was left with a dun sphere. “You know, when my father explained that good relationships required investment, I don’t think this is what he meant.” Edit: Or am I reading too much in to this and he meant monetary investment as in trading an infused sphere for a dun sphere.

Tuesday is quickly becoming my least productive workday.. Wow Dalinar was such a badass. Really curious about the thing he saw in the storm. The plate was stollen hmm. Again I am really surprised (pleasantly I might add) at the direction Brandon is going with the Parshmen. I like that Kaladin is facing this moral dilemma it makes for a much better story than the Parshman just turning in to voidbringers. Khen seems to be a free thinker too which makes me think there will be some resistance. I loved the "No Mating" comment from Pattern that was completely ignored by Shallan and Adolin. I thought it was interesting Shallan questioning how she acted as Veil. |Adolin seems to want to confess to her... Once again these chapters end on a HUGE cliffhanger. I know this is supposed to be Dalinar's book and the flash backs are cool just because Dalinar was such a badass but Shallan's chapters continue to be the most interesting to me by far. These preview chapters are a curse!

We are not going to see any interludes in the previews correct. Im re-reading the books and forgot how much I like the interludes.

I was planning on NOT reading them. I made it through 3 weeks before caving. Hopefully you all will be stronger than I. It really is torture reading the book 3 chapters at a time a week apart. Of course it’s also a little fun to come up with theories only to be dis-proven almost weekly.

I bet Elend thought it felt like a physical object. It’s old I wonder if old enough to be made of Dragonsteel.

Now that I’m thinking about SH I wonder if Leras’s knife is Dragonsteel..

The big thing that has stood out to me as a positive is Brandon is getting increasingly better at his comic delivery. That may not be important to everyone but I find myself a lot more invested in a book if I get a laugh every now and then. He is also choosing very good characters to deliver the comic relief (spren for instance) which I think is important as I am not expecting a lot of chuckles from Dalinar or Kaladin's dialog. The pacing is also noticeable much faster in Oathbringer which I will not pass judgment as a good or bad thing yet. I have been surprised how many reveals we are seeing so early on. Overall I am very happy with what we have seen so far.

She doesn't have to get to 9 by the end of the book though. I fell like the show down with Odium's champion is more of a book 5 deal.
