  1. Well... if he's in the center of the room and he pushed out in all directions, it stands to reason that opposite directions will have approximately the same amount of tables, which mean approximately the same weight on either side, which means the tables will cancel each other out when pushing against both of them. meh... he could have been increasing his weight for anchorage. I'm saying that the allomancy gives a set amount of power on a normal burn (if it's flared it'll give more). Pewter gives 20 units of strength (maybe more if you're naturally a more powerful allomancer), steel gives 15 units of pushing. Changing your weight doesn't change the amount of power burning the metal gives. I thought people are saying that changing mass or strength or certain things will also change how much power burning a metal gives. EDIT: oops.... failure to add the negative causes problems with arguments.
  2. he increased his mass to reduce the effect of a bunch of tables "squeezing" him (since a side effect of increasing mass is making your body stronger to handle it). other coinshots can't store weight. Wax used up years of going 75% mass in seconds. He was immensely heavy (as in, very very very very very very very very very very heavy) when he pushed down on all the metal parts of the building. There was a force pushing Wax and the metal apart and since wax was soooo stinkin' heavy, the metal got pushed from him instead of him getting pushed from the metal.
  3. I'd think the element is something important that can't be reproduced. that's one of the reasons i don't think lerasium is it. Sazeed could, likely, turn more of preservations power into lerasium if he wanted
  4. Well of course. Force = Mass x Velocity^2 (I think) Force = mass x acceleration (I didn't do good in physics. Thanks ulysses). But the power from steel is the same. In those cases it's mass of person vs mass of object (with friction included)(the only thing I can actually think of from the book is when he crushed the building. In that case, because he was soooo heavy, instead of the building pushing him up, he pushed it down. but the steel was still only giving him the same amount of power as normal. I also have snippets of memory telling me that wax regularly made himself lighter so he could push himself around easier/faster, which has the same explanation as Vin being faster than normal pewterarms)
  5. That's like asking me how the brain works Why, thank you!!! I like this line of reasoning too :D I'm thinking that maybe if someone changed the landscape and then took a step they'd just disappear from the viewpoint of the other person (which really doesn't seem that reasonable to me). The "compiler" was presumably given the map by his Rosharian "informant". Maybe he figured he might as well include it? I don't have the answers to your questions
  6. If compounding breaths was possible, which I don't think it is, I'd think that it would make a breath more powerful by supercharging it, just like the way it supercharges feruchemy. It takes the power of creation through the "pattern" the feruchemy attribute makes and makes it stronger. That's how I think of it, anyway.
  7. Are atium mistings still allowed? I've been reading all over the forums that Sazed fixed the allomantic table (before sazed fixed it, it replaced... bendalloy and cadmium mistings maybe?... with atium and malatium mistings)
  8. I figured Szeth's reasoning was the same kind of reasoning of why some people believe in religion. Because it's so much easier to believe there's a point to our existence than to believe that when we die we're completely gone (for certain people at least). PS I'm NOT saying that that's why people believe in religion. Some believers might not even ever have that thought (and most probably don't have that as a very high reason at all, if they even have it as a reason [i, personally, do have it as a reason, it's just not very high on the list... at all]). EDIT: I seriously don't know why I added the parenthesis up above... but I did.
  9. The cogitive realm could very well just reflect what your subconcious thinks it should look like, in a way. Shallan and Jasnah jump into it from Roshar, so it mirrors Roshar. Hoid travels by "forcing" the cognitive realm to match how he wants to view it, moving wherever he wants to go closer to him. It's not the physical realm and so it doesn't have the same rules as the physical realm.
  10. When I said that she held her own against Kelsier I was meaning that if neither of them had an anchor she would have been pushed farther than him, because she's lighter. but with anchors she was able to hold her own against him. Mass doesn't have anything to do with the power allomancy gives you, it only has do do with how much you're pushed. When Ham was talking about pewter strength he was saying "a person has a given amount of strength. If they build up their muscles then their given amount will be more. Pewter gives say... 10 units of strength on top of what you have. I, being awesome, have 4 units of strength without pewter, while Vin only has 1/2 a unit. Since I'm sooo much stronger than Vin, I weigh a lot more. When we both burn pewter, I'm still stronger than her. I'll have 14 units of strength while she only has 10.5 units. If I can hit her, she'll be hurt. But she's sooo stinkin' fast (she doesn't have to move (limbs) as much to go the same distance as someone who's heavier. She can start moving (her body) quicker than most [since reaction times are still close to the same].) And you saw her her jump!! All that strength pushing up on that tiny body makes for supersuperhuman jumps."
  11. true. That's why when Vin had an anchor she was able to hold her own against kelsier. People will start to be ranked on the power of their pushes and pulls when they're able to put scales on the wall (or on the other side of the wall) and push or pull against them.
  12. contacts Edit: seeing this 3 years from when I posted it..... I have no idea what I was saying......
  13. But then why would the top and bottom of the small circles be the only ones that have an opposite in the small circles? I believe that the patterns make the "eye of the almighty" symbol (or maybe it's just "the eye" symbol) that vorinism uses. (middle two order are the pupil, surges are the iris, rest of the orders are the rest of the eye). Heeyyy. light goes into the pupil, right? the "voidbinder" sheet has that gem in the center. So, by logical deduction, when Honor was alive he could use gems as extra eyes (that's why they're put into spherical marbles, to remind people that "God" is watching them. At least, that's why in the first place). :D
  14. Would a bead of lerasium really be important enough for Hoid to say that he's keeping it safe? I don't think so.
  15. I don't think Tarah would have had connections to Sadeas or other leaders beyond probably being in the camp. Kaladin was unimportant back in the day and there would have been far better places to send someone than to lift the spirits of a young soldier. Now if Tarah and Danlan (or Tarah/Danlan) are connected to the "watchers" from the back of the book (there are four we watch: the surgeon, the [shallan], the [Dalinar], the [szeth]) we might be getting somewhere.
  16. They like to play
  17. Isn't ruin's pool under the pits or something? I believe that Brandon originally had Vin and Elend actually see ruins pool, but then the sites of the pools changed and stuff.
  18. During high school last year I read about 1 book a week until I finished them all. . . and I really didn't have very much to do besides reading.
  19. I see no reason why every combination of two shards has to output magic systems like Ruin and Preservation did.
  20. that makes sense.
  21. As in, even if that other metal doesn't have a feruchemical charge?
  22. Random fact of the day: The stomach coats itself with a new layer of mucus on an average of every two weeks, otherwise it'd digest itself.
  23. I believe that we have WoB saying that Hoid isn't a shardholder. And I saw one thread that someone popped out and said that Hoid had precognitive powers without giving any backup (unless some has been given today). Where was that idea gotten? EDIT: ok. I found two quotes. So Hoid *might* be able to see slivers of the future, and Brandon doesn't know if Hoid has a Shard or not (at least back at the time when the questions were asked/answered. things might have solidified since then)
  24. Actually from what I gathered, shards focus on a single area, but they can move around fast. and while they're focused on the one thing, everything else is in their "peripheral" with things farther away being more to the side (although they can widen their focus, which is just like us moving farther back. everything becomes a little blurrier but we're able to see more). Otherwise there would have been no point to Vin following Ruin's consciousness around.
  25. Syl is not a windspren so a windspren cut wouldn't attract her. (unless brandon has said that an "honorspren" is in fact a sentient windspren [or unless there's a theory like that])
