  1. So I was just reading TFE and I came across the part where kelsier soothed vin's pain. It actually says It was really just the importance that was soothed away. It might in effect be the same as actually soothing or rioting pain or hunger or whatever, but I figured I might as well bring it up anyway, since I could.
  2. I would think that T would have been smart enough to have people watching outside the castle for Szeth to appear so that they could follow him if the parshendi ended up not giving the Oathstone back. I doubt anyone would be stupid enough to let an asset like Szeth disappear for 6 years when they could easily have set multiple people around the castle to trail Szeth (who would then lead to the person with the Oathstone).
  3. There's a quote from Brandon that I really don't want to find that says that One can get any magic iin the cosmere to work anywhere in the cosmere.
  4. I'd say that the best defense is to become completely unimportant...
  5. Why apologize????
  6. and the spikes give him something nice and fairly heavy to send hurtling into the ballista/crew.
  7. ooo. That's cool.
  8. The brain tells the heart to beat for 45 seconds? I would think the brain would tell the heart to beat for every time the heart needed to beat.
  9. Until he cuts the spikes off with his shardblade
  10. Huh... I guess Chaos is the one who said it .
  11. I'm putting this in here since the title of the thread is compounding. So what if we were to use what normally fuels feruchemy to fuel allomancy? What if instead of burning the pewter and actually using that power, One somehow stores the power into their pewter metalmind? One could store their pewter for a day, and then tap it all at once to hold up a collapsing building for the precious few minutes it takes for everyone to safely evacuate. EDIT: and allomantic pewter doesn't make the muscles grow like its normal feruchemical use, so your not gonna become sooo big that it's an impediment if you allomantically compound a ton.
  12. How was Elantris made to work in the first place if the magic couldn't be used without the Shaod? EDIT: Unless all the shaod really is is something that changes your looks and what lets you use magic is completely different... I believe that Brandon said in a different quote that the magic users looked normal before Elantris. I'm gonna try to find those quotes then I'll edit them into this post. EDIT2: I can't find the quotes. I'm almost 99% sure that I read them somewhere in the forums, but they're not in the quote database (or at least, I don't know how to find them if they are). I did find something about compounding though that let me come up with a way to do reverse compounding (kinda).
  13. The king wouldn't really have been able to give Szeth to the parshendi because the king only recently aquired Szeth in the first place. I think the Parshendi will end up being very important allies in the final desolation (if Brandon came up with a good reason of why they killed Gavilar).
  14. why would Shallan put it in a pocket? The sharblade would cut the clothes (since they're dead). And I would think "Shardblade" if I came across a dead body with clothes that are nice and cleanly cut but no wound is on the skin... unless the reason why there was a pool of blood was because Shallan recut that area after it was also dead (I don't think dead bodies make pools of blood very well though... ) and then she saw the soulcaster and was like "uhhhh... I'm gonna hide that in an uncut pocket".
  15. I actually don't even know how much fear a Trolloc would put into a full aes sedai. Moiraine is used to battling Trollocs, and she knows that she can easily kill them off. rioted fear would be completely irrational. There's no trolloc there that the aes sedai can easily kill off. There's nothing there besides kelsier. I think rioting fear would give Kelsier a small window of time to kill off Moiraine while she's trying to figure out how he's doing it, or how to fight back, or whatever.
  16. I'm almost 99% positive that Brandon said fairly recently that the Shaod is caused by Elantris. Maybe the monks haven't figured out how to get their shaod to start working?
  17. I think that suppressing rioting or soothing would be different than suppressing fear of a trolloc. With a trolloc, the aes sedai can look at it and think "k. it's a trolloc. I'm gonna remain calm though.". With rioting, depending on what knowledge Brandon gives Moiraine, she doesn't know Kelsier can do it, so it's unexpected. I haven't read mistborn in a while, so I don't really know how people suppress rioting. Do they realize they're being rioted so they "suppress" the riot, or do they just ignore that emotion. While Moiraine is figuring out how Kelsiers is rioting her, or how to suppress the riot, he'll have a small window of time (second or two, maybe more) to shoot a handful of coins at her unimpeded... unless Lan's there.
  18. Well... I was using "symbols" fairly loosely . I had a mix of "form" and "symbol" going on in my head. With Chayshan I said "body movements". A single "symbol" in Chayshan might take 5 minutes to "draw" or the "symbols" could easily be "arm is here -> move arm over here". Orrr... Maybe the practitioners of Chayshan don't get going fast because they're AwesomeSauce but because they have to to get their magic to work. Maybe the "ghost images" that happen when moving fast (wave your arm in front of you) actually form the "symbols" (in this case it'd be a continuing symbol) that get the magic system to work. Maybe you get more powerful the faster you get because the "ghost images" are longer there are more defined ghost images. Fine... I'll agree that the chants are important, but only if the reason the chants might actually be saying something is because the primitives wanted to make sense of the chants, so they made the certain sounds mean things. EDIT: or if Skai did a "Gray Folk" thing from Eragon.
  19. If kelsier could distract Moiraine from seeing him shoot a coin at her, I think he'd have a fairly good chance of winning. Or if he spray painted all of his coins black and wore a black costume and made sure to schedule the fight on a night with heavy rain (cloud cover).
  20. Dilution. Let's say that at first, 10% of people are full-lerasium mistborn and the other 90% are normal. So that makes it so that on average, 10% of DNA* strands are "enhanced" while 90% are normal. If we normalize everything so that one person is only allowed to have two kids to their name(otherwise the mistborns could all have like 20 compared to everyone else only have like 1, which'll ruin what I'm trying to do {ie breeding programs are against the law}) so a nice, happy family will have 4 kids (two for each parent), and eeverybody has to be in a nice, happy family . Eventually we'll end up with every person having approximately 10% lerasium DNA and 90% normal DNThis post has been reported for attempting to skirt the rules, which'll be just enough for some of the population to have misting powers . *I believe that all the mentions of DNA in this post really mean sDNA **This is if two lerasium mistborn will make a lerasium mistborn, which is probably not the case.
  21. I don't think it has to do with language. I think it's the symbols and what they're based on. Aondor's glyphs are based on geography. Chayshan's body movements are based on... something that might have only been hinted at, if that. "Fjordor's" bone symbols are based on... ditto. ^^^ I don't know how the chanting would tie into fjordor. I can think of: they do it because they can, they don't realize they don't have to, or the sounds (err... vibration of the air... whatever) somehow make some kind of symbol. The symbols might have been used by the early peoples to write their language, but I don't think the magic would be based on languages unless something happened to tie the magic to the languages, like in Eragon (and I'm doubting that something like that happened).
  22. Or szeth could cut out part of a wall and have it fall down the long hall with him standing on its back. or lying on its back on a comfortable mattress so it doesn't hurt as much to hit the wall .
  23. I believe someone pointed that out, and I believe it turned out to be a coincident.
  24. Oh. I didn't know for positive... Obviously
  25. Meh... the cookie theory is not snickerdoodle good enough to convince me .
