  1. And i hadn't held coffee yet haha
  2. I thought you were going to say that Kelsier may have taken Autonomy from Tanavast Bavadan... and I like that idea... Kelsier was all about having Autonomy over your own life and affairs.
  3. i agree entirely. Passion is a gateway towards hatred, or can cause someone to hate, but Passion is not Hatred itself.
  4. It is more that I don't believe Passion is truly something that Odium 'could' be. I admit he could have other names, but I disagree that Passion makes sense for him. Maybe a list of names could be: Odium, Hatred, Antipathy, fanaticism, selfishness, excuses, etc Passion is just too removed from those, and Odium seems to remove passion in order to facilitate hate and violence.
  5. I always assumed Vashar used one of his (maybe he has collected a few) divine breaths, but I am not sure why. Thanks for for pointing out the mention to Denth of "forgetting" commands!
  6. You can use a divine breath to heal a wound (its what the court of the Gods exists to do!), so using many smaller breaths to heal a wound seems possible with the right understanding. Another interesting question would be if a divine breath could command someone to die?
  7. Interesting WOB on Nan Balat and how he is being affected by an Unmade. I realize this is more about the Unmade, but it is also about Odium's unmade. Questioner There's a scene where you can see from the perspective of Nan Balat, Shallan's brother, where he's maiming an insect. It's described as soothing his aches. Is that in any way related to how Kaladin feels depressed and down during the Weeping even in his early childhood? Brandon Sanderson What's happening to Nan Balat is magically enhanced. What's happening to Kaladin is mostly just chemical depression. Be he is really too young to be diagnosed with depression during some of these events, but he's got the seeds in there. So Kaladin is not magically depressed. Kaladin is just legitimatly a person with depression. Nan Balat... What's up with him is... ah... being exaggerated by certain forces moving in on Roshar. (last bit is a bit indistinctive) Could this be Chemoaris or Dal-Gonarthis?
  8. Another interesting question is what happens to a person after they give up a shard willingly. Let's say Ati decided to give the shard of Ruin to Hoid, what would happen to Ati's personality? Had Ati been corrupted by a shard, or has Ati grown to embrace a shard? To what extent is Ati "wrong", if to any extent. Another question would concern splinters. Let's say Ati dropped Ruin after 400,000 years, and then took up Devotion; would Ati be more able to resist the intention of Devotion? What would happen there?
  9. Interesting, as Discord is the opposite of Unity (another suspected possible shard)
  10. I was wondering about this too. THe problem is that one metal only stores one attribute, so I don't think there would be enough "Tindwyl" in an one item. Now, if we made a cyborg out of all of Tywndwil's metalminds then maybe! I think it would be beautiful if the memories of the Keepers were actually recovered and those protected memories could be used in universities to help educate the words(s).
  11. She and Rock are my top contenders for bonding the Nightwatcher:
  12. We have a recent WOB saying that they weren't looking for "Awakening" in particular, but were looking for "weirdness". My guess is that Kriss and Nahz are investigating a chain of events that has been resulting in Feruchemically Awakened Objects (no breath required). Full Mistborn Era 1 Spoilers and Itsy Bitsy Era 2 Spoilers
  13. I disagree, I think. The myth of the Tranquiline Halls really reminds me of how the Fused work; if you are very useful and good at fighting, then you could return to fight again in an attempt to reclaim your homeland. Go to a weird world and be reborn to reclaim the one you lost? Clearly this is a religious ideal that applies to the Fused. Religiously, for humans and for Parshendi, there is a long standing expectation that being a great fighter means you serve your God again. I think Odium will be elevating a few dead Parshendi for at least two reasons: 1. A lot of the Fused are insane now and not terribly useful. (Herald symmetry!) 2. If the Parshendi saw some of their leaders being elevated, the Parshendi might fight with more power and conviction. Additional question: Who exactly were the first people to become "fused"? Since humans were originally the children of Odium, did humans have the opportunity to be reborn as cognitive shadows? Humans come back as retunred, and even on Scadrial there is a mention of "you will fight for us in the next life for Trell". It doesn't seem beyond Odium's power to have used cylon humans in the same way he is using Fused parshendi. Heck, even look at The Heralds and what they do. Was that Honour's unique idea, or was he imitating Odium? My gut says that Humans once were reborn as Odium Shadows, but the humans abandoned Odium for Honor & Cultivation. Then, the Parshendi abandoned their gods and were given the chance to return as Cognative Shadows themselves. Obviously the process would be different between Humans and Parshendi, but the raw effect would be the same.
  14. Second Era Spoilers:
  15. Part of me wonders if these are artifacts from a time before? It would be interesting if the Day Side lost a lot of its technology, but Darkside kept theirs for the most part. A lampshade should be from Dark Side, but maybe it endures in Day Side as a cultural status artifact.
  16. There could very easily be a command like "return him" or something like that. Perhaps it would take more than one divine breath, but it seems possible.
  17. That is a bold statement though. Take for example the case of a woman who shoots her husband. We use compassion to determine whether or not it was justifiable homicide. Many courts have put in rules to determine justifiable homicide, but those rules are an attempt at codifying compassion. Or take juries for example: the jury can decide someone is not guilty based on the sympathy the jury feels for the accused. In the USA juries are rarely infomred that they can find someone not guilty based on compassion and not on evidence. For a long time, especially in England, foreign people had the right to juries composed of 50% foreign juries just so the foreigner would still be able to have that compassionate edge be a little more understanding. Not to go all "I have an ethics degree", but justice is not as simple as being blind. In fact, I would say it should almost never be blind.
  18. It would be interesting to see what electricity does to investiture. The broadsheets in the 2nd Mistbron Trilogy talk of sentient appliances, and I've always wondered if that's electricity moving with metalminds (as opposed to awakening because who would leave behind so much breath?
  19. We also have the Shattered Plains. Likely the Surges caused that, and that little whoops pushed people to abandon their oaths.
  20. I would also like to see Shallan or Kaladin faced with the moral decision of whether or not to beome a New Herald and take up the Oathpact, all the while knowing how horrible such a fate truly is. If Ash asked Shallan, would Shallan agree?
  21. Shouldn't the Radiants lose because of their oaths? If it came to murdering a baby to save the world or protecting a baby to retain your honour, we might be seeing the world burning; life before death, strength before weakness, journey before destination. I mean, look at what happened with the Parshendi? It was smart to take away their souls, but it wasn't right. i fully expect the world to burn because some radiant(s) refuse to choose death before life. We have the death-rattles which foreshadow this moral inevitability: “I hold the suckling child in my hands, a knife at his throat, and know that all who live wish me to let the blade slip. Spill its blood upon the ground, over my hands, and with it gain us further breath to draw ” and “So the night will reign, for the choice of honor is life... ” Roshar is doomed in my opinion, but maybe humanity's honour might have a chance.
  22. There is a lot of speculation surround what Odium sees as Odium seems HORRIBLE or predicting the future. The Unmade may have some future sight, but it hasn't proved useful to anyone yet. If we are to believe the Taker of Secrets, Odium doesnt even know about her plans (he suspects, but hasn't "seen" anything).
  23. This is likely true. We have perfect parallelism: 1 herald and 1 unmade trapped in a gem. I wonder if we will get a hostage situation where Odium says he will give us a herald(s) in exchange for the Thrill.
  24. Why for plot reasons? We only have the book Nightblood left for Nalthis, so that cant be that huge of a problem. And with Warbreaker being a prequel to Stormlight, and with 3 major characters being in both books, it seems that Nalthis will be at least of minor importance to Stormlight? And with Worldhopping be fairly easy, humans could always flee to Nalthis. Sure, the Spren are an issue, but humans have abandoned Spren before, OR the humans could find workarounds like transporting Spren in fabrials. I am not saying the refugee crisis would be perfect, but not-perfect is exactly what a crisis is. Imagine Shallan choosing between going to another planet with Adolin or choosing to not abandon pattern: journey before destination, much?
  25. Interesting idea that she may be part-spren and may, perhaps, be something like a pre-dead cognitive shadow. I do think that Lift is changing mentally and growing more mature. If you read Lift's first appearance, and then read Lift's novella, there is a clear difference. But, if Lift is part-spren-ish, it may be the Nahel bond that is allowing her to grow, sort of like what we see happening with the Stormfather.
