Brandon is very active on reddit (username mistborn). Do we have a plan on how to categorize those entries?
-
We also have The Old Magic to explain. Is this something that was on Roshar before? Brandon does not consider it one of the Big Three Magic Systems: My personal theory is that The Nightwatcher is a "made", and that's why her magic isn't operating under a regular magic system, just like we wouldn't count any of the Unmade as a unique magic system either. This is confusing though because we have one Unmade saying (paraphrased) "We were made then unmade. I am not of him. I am of me. I am an ally!", but then we have this WOB And While we know that the Storm predates the arrival of shards, we do'nt know if the Stormfather and the Nightwatcher and the Made predate the arrival There must have been magic on Roshar pre Shard influence, and the Made/God Spen are pretty good candidates. I would love some more facts on what the natural magic system was in the before-time (and it better not just be Pure Lake Fishymancing)

I wonder if any of the famous painters in Stormlight were invested with breath.

It really seems like the only way to read it is that half-shards are filled with sentient spren. There isn’t any reason to read it another way. I’m very shocked only one person was arguing for this position. The text clearly says that those spren may have once blessed a radiant, and there’s no reason to believe this conversation was a fake-out. This entire book is about ethics, and radiant spren being used in Fabrials is par for the course so far. Anyway, I found this episode quite frustrating and wanted to turn it off quite frequently. I can’t fathom why the majority of the casters refused to accept there was likely slavery going on (and that it was very likely). The amount of mental scaffolding required to disprove the idea is not compelling in any way: “maybe Mr.T was lying and Dalinar didn’t understand and the Stormfather had bad gas at that exact moment and we agree it’s possible but for some reason it is not happening here for unrevealed reasons”... Me.T could be wrong, but the reader is supposed to believe he is right.

100% agreed that Zane in the worst character in the Cosmere.
-
I am not saying that the Spren are only of Honour, but that the Oaths are of Honour. Perhaps you have ti cultivate truth, but i'm not so sure that is the case.
-
True enough but that could still mean that cultivation of character bestows shardplate and that plate could happen potentially at any Oath Stage. It would not make narrative sens for Shallan to have found her Shardplate during WoR and having her hide it from the audience; it is far more likely that Shallan got her plate as a child (if she has her plate at all, which i doubt).
-
True that the spren are a mixture, but the spren were never meant to grand Shardbladed (it was a hack). Speaking oaths and following oaths is of Honour, and oaths are how we see surgebinding progress. We haven't seen Cultivation used to progress quite yet.
-
Well if she does have it then you don't get plate from speaking oaths (since we saw her progress to Oath 4). Maybe Cultivation plays more of a role in granting shardplate and one need to progress on her side of the magic system? I know we think surgebinding is of honour, but maybe plate is a little extra granted by Cultivation.

Do you think Fainlife will end up being the ultimate antagonist, seeing as Yolen wasn't even able to handle the problem very well?

Another question worth asking is if there is anything on Braize worth breaking, stealing, or interrupting. If all or most of the Singers are in the Everstorm, then could a team be sent to Braize to mess stuff up there? Braize seems undefended, and there must be some tactical value to wrecking stuff over there. Can anything be done to a shardpool? Maybe Odium needs his to do what he does.

[OB] Speculation on Azure and Zahel
teknopathetic replied to ScarletSabre's topic in Stormlight Archive
This also seemed like a loose-end to me, unless Nale expected this and wants the sword end up in the hands of an "evil" radiant inside Uritheru. It would be a sad day when 50% of the new radiants are taken out by the dustbringer psychotically destroying everyone. -
[OB] Speculation on Azure and Zahel

I feel Nightblood wouldnt want to Kill Vasher or any of the 5 scholars. I think Nightblood is fairly convinced Vasher is not evil. -
It was a private message. I said that ROshar appears doomed do to meta-reader analysis, and that Roshar is all about refugees. I did not mention Refugees going to Roshar. His response was ".... RAFO =)" which is different than his usual "RAFO" in tone. Nothing is conclusive, but man did it look weird haha.

[OB] Whose Side Were the Thaylens on in the Past?
teknopathetic replied to teknopathetic's topic in Stormlight Archive
The Thaylen written language isn't bilateral though, and symmetry is a mark of the divine (good guys divine). -
It always seemed pretty obvious to me that the end we've seen in Honour's vision of Roshar being destroyed. Do we really expect Brandon to have the good guys defeat a god right at the last moment? What we need to see as an audience is to see a shardworld go down. But what about the characters? Well Nalthis is right there with a Customs Agency in the Cognitive realm ready and able to process those refugee papers (and what is Stormlight without refugees?)
-
We really need to be asking ourselves "why". Could Brandon have made a talking sword that could do cool stuff without creating the world of Nalthis? Do we need Nalthis for any reason? So far? Do we think Brandon super needed Sword Nimi to make the plot make sense? I have one idea: I really do think the people of Roshar will abandon the world and Bec one refugees on Nalthis (as refugee migration and ehtics surrounding that is a huge motif so far in Stormlight). We've never seen a shard shatter nor have we seen the good guys lose; it feels like by necessity Roshar needs to go down. We also have a WOB that we've already seen the end of the series, and we've seen Honour's prediction of a possible future involving the planet being destroyed... Roshar doomed: Edit: this is just my theory. Book 6-10 will be set primarily on Nalthis. Vivenna and Vasher exist as people who could credibly bring back refugees and are people with the social power to get through "customs". Heck, Nalthis has customs which seems to exist as a potential plot point against the Rosharans. We will see the Iriali move onto their next homeward, and we will see Nalthis/Endownment struggle to allow voidbringers into their world. Perhaps Cultivation survives and odium falls, but Roshar is gonzo. I did say most of this to Brandon over reddit and his response was "......" as if I had guessed right

ghostbloods (OB) what Ghostbloods want with ....
teknopathetic replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
We have a WOB that says if Kelsier were to join any secret society "He would become part of the Ghostbloods, most likely, and would be in charge of them within a year". I'm not sure if this reconfirms anything, or if Brandon is being cheeky (I tend to think this deconfirms the Kelsier connection). -
ghostbloods (OB) what Ghostbloods want with ....
teknopathetic replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
It would be awesome if Cultivation hired the Ghostbloods to grab Sja-Anat, and now Cultivation is grafting on memories and abilities in order to cultivate a new "made". -

She must have agents other than the spren, right? I am not actually a proponent of the Cultivation Ghostbloods theory, but I am very curious what her Kandra equivalents are. She "took" a piece of Dalinar and said it would be useful to her, and I cant figure out why a chunk of Dalinar would be so useful; can she grow a new Dalinar? Can she "spike" people with the things she takes? What does she do with the qualities she takes?
