Random Stuff VI The Return of the Admins
DreamEternal replied to Zathoth's topic in Forum Games & Random Stuff
I can do magic systems, have many plot ideas and can make interesting enough character concepts, but when I write my lack of detailed worldbuilding makes me freeze. Perhaps I should try to write horror once to see if I can do it more naturaly. -
Vivenna?

Whose book are talking about? Things get confusing with many writers on board, even though Moz is more of a creepypasta writer. -
Technically they could, but nowhere near enough for large scale use.

Random Stuff VI The Return of the Admins

Why do you need the detective? It is often more fun to make they figure out the madness on their own without anyone helping or hindering their (mis)conclusions. Also, how does this sounds for the last line of the first chapter of a novel: "She felt afraid, not for herself, but for her scouts. They were told to bring a princess, but brough the dragon instead." I am writing in portuguese, but it is a close enough translation. EDIT: On simpathetic characters, I can't say I am a good judge, since I feel bad even for people like Sadeas, but for some readers it matters more if the character feels bad about the bad things he does than whatever his reason to do them are good or not. These readers are the minority. -
Ok, I admit, the title is not serious. But my theory is. I am proposing that artifabricians may be using the Rhythms to trap spren in gemstones. To arrive to this hypothesis, I must first state what took me to the conclusion that traping spren in gemstones is a more complex procedure than finding the right gem type and cut. The indication lies in the Ars Arcanun: "The methods of their creation are carefully guarded by the artifabrian community" If one could discover such methods by simply bashing spren with different gemstones based on the ones found in fabrials, there wouldn't be much point in guarding such secrets. However, the listeners discovered how to store spren for later transformation after hearing from humans that it as possible to trap them in gemstones. Why would listeners have such an easier time than humans at learning this method? The answer may lie in what their kind always did since they can remember. To go out during the Highstorm and sing to the right Rhythm may attract an spren that bonds, merges with a listener. Maybe singing does not only attract the spren, but brings the listener close enough to the cognitive realm that they can interact properly. Maybe the single, unified Rhythm they feel when standing before the Rider of Storms is a natural force that transcends the listeners, its vibration permeating the Cognitive Realm and being filtered into the physical by sensitive minds. If a humans somehow learned and memorized a Rhythm, they could bring themselves closer to the cognitive realm by humming to it, perhaps making it easier to attract spren and trap them. As for why I think the Rhythms may not simply attract spren, but make them easier to interact with, I leave this bit of information from a book Shallan read after stealing Jasnah's fake soulcaster: "It claimed that humming, of all things, could make Soulcasting more effective." While I have no idea how artifabricians learned to mimic Listeners and believe the origin of this knowledge was forgotten many desolations ago, I hope to see this theory confirmed or denied now that Rlain is in Urithiru.

No. There must be multiple shards of theory if skaa is one, otherwise what is Time(bubble)lord Kurkistan supposed to be? I propose that instead skaa is a great splinter of the 17thShard, a shard that has "Theorizing" as one of its three purposes, the others being "decency" and "madness". Thus, I declare skaa the Brainstormfather.

Storms, that explains why I've never found the school based parts of the plot very interesting. The narrative tries to portray the most popular guy as the stereotypical school's underdog, so we have neither the true underdog nor a popular guy facing problems more connected to his position. That makes it feel forced and boring, and only when doing the more "choosen one" heroic stuff Harry falls into place and things get a little more natural. -

Apply in excess and your brain will hate you for it. A refusal is like a river -
I still think it is more complex than that. How would a bronze mistfabrial show what it detects? By specific patterns in its burning?

Everything in the cosmere has a cognitive aspect and a spiritweb, even if most things are only sentient in the Cognitive Realm. So machines are not souless, at least when it comes to the three realms. The true, final afterlife may work differently, or even be fully independent of the spiritweb as a soul if we take the WoB that hemalurgy doens't have big side effects there as an indication. If you were able to invest an object with the capacity to use allomancy under certain conditions, or if you somehow forced Preservation's investiture to flow throught the metal, effectively burning it without an allomancer, you could have allomantic machines.

When held too close, it asphyxiates you. A crime is like a novel. -
No, mostly because none of the shardworlds we have seem(except maybe modern scadrial) could have magnets as anything more than rare stones rich people use as decoration and most people won't see in their lifes.
-
That is not true. If a mistborn burned Lerasium blindly, he would just get allomanticaly stronger. The true function of lerasium is rewriting your spiritweb, and it defaults to increasing your connection to preservation when you don't use any hacks.

Kaladin, to go with the obvious.

If it was just about the type and cut it would be easy to replicate and a pointless secret to keep. I currently theorize it is related to humming to the Rhythms to interact better with cognitive entities, which I also believe is why humming helps with using soulcaster fabrials.Currently I think the Rhythms are different frequencies of something permeating shadesmar, and attuning to them helps bridging the physical and cognitive realms. It also explains why it was so easy for the parshendi to figure out the secret process of traping spren, while stopping random human scholars from stumbling upon it. As for why artifabricians didn't notice the similarity of their tunes and the parshendi songs, it is not too unlikely that parshendi and artifabricians never expended extended amounts of time together. Of course, that may be bound to change if Navani takes a lersonal interest on Rlain's knowledge about spren-listener interactions. EDIT: I may post this theory of mine in the SA board later, been to long since I started a new theory.

So, it is officialy 2016 here were I live. -
I don't think it is exactly like emotional allomancy. She didn't soulcast him into a good man, she convinced him to act as a good man. It is just that her nature as a radiant enhaced her skills at convincing people, but the impetus to be a good person was part of his nature, she just gave a little push.I think that is the secret of the Lightweavers: if a lie makes itself true, it was never a lie, was it? Edit: well, in my opinion it was. Except when you actualy intend to make it true, then it is a promise. She promised the desertors could be good men, and the promise made itself true.

Storms, that sounds like me when I am unsure if I woke up or am dreaming that I woke up. It is generaly the latter, except when I just had a nightmare and suspect it isn't quite over yet. Also, I hate false recurring dreams, making me doubt my memory. -

I don't think I'd be able to cast a decent Patronus. Finding a particular happy memory, of the kind that fills me with hope is not something I think I can do. That doens't mean that I've never been happy, it is just that I lack those special moments. If I had to describe my life, I'd say I have tasted some of the dark things in life, but had a generaly good road and believe the truly good and bad things are still coming. -

I don't know, while that system is inferior to the metric system it is kinda OK on itself. Degrees Fahrenreich(sp?) are a complete nightmare though. I mean, he based it on the temperatures of his sick wife and an unusualy cold day. -
To be honest, the strongest part of Shallan's plot were her flashbacks. WoR was an overall weaker book than WoK in my opinion.

Changeable, soft and easily ignored by the cold, hard world. A poem is like a shadow.
