I liked the first book, and the second too, but after some time I lost interest, and looking back found the story and secondary characters weak. Kvothe was irritating sometimes, but more often than not he was interesting, and I am still curious about how he fell so low. The side characters, though, were flattest than Pattern's physical form, and the lack of a central plot in the flashbacks makes them less interesting than the interludes in my opinion. Ademre was horrible. I can't say how often my imersion was broken to pieces and scattered to the winds since Kvothe met Felurian. Well, at least the prose is nice?

You have to remember nobles often beat their children to the brink of death in the hope that they may snap. I am quite sure Straff implied to Elend that he may have not tried hard enough last time, and would try again if he had the opportunity. So Elend didn't have a choice.

Kaladin's plot was much weaker in WoR in my opinion. Shallan's flashbacks though, they were incredible, in a very sad way.

Uh, not realy. I meant disperse it around or store it inside nearby cognitive aspects. With soulcaster the stormlight is used up instantly and returns to the circle.

Better now? English is hard.

Yes, but they are more like a piece of the engine than the fuel or a hose the fuel flows throught. Maybe there could be a way to make a fabrial that sends investiture from the physical realm to the cognitive.

I wonder if such a flaw even matters for the purposes of storing Light, since shardblades cut so cleanly.

The problem is that the spikes used to make Inquisitors are the ones that give metalborn powers. If they didn't keep their powers it would be a waste, and maybe the changes in their spiritweb are more compatible with natural metalborn powers anyway.

But couldn't he track the conteiner atium was in between getting extracted and being stored in the Homeland?

I doubt half-shard fabrials would be so amazing if making armor out of gemhearts had the same effect.

How about something more mundane, like kleptomania? I bet you could figure out a way to squeeze in the weird stuff as the protagonist gets older. -

Or just create a regular patriarchal society? On a related note, in the culture I've developed for my fantasy book members of three species coesist and I need to figure out the dynamics of their interations. I think I've mostly figured out the intelligent birds and their peculiar position in a society ruled by humanoids. Now I only need to think of the relationship between humans and the native species of the planet, when the coming of humanity and said intelligent birds was turned into distant legend or forgotten. -
*replaces gems with reminders that we know nothing about how artifrabricians trap spren, but it is a carefully guarded secret that is most likely more complex than scattering gemstones about.*

With much luck. Most probably die. If they survived childhood, they are though enough to live a few more years. Plus, skaa life expectancy never was much high.

Very, very poorly, probably while working, and with as little care as possible because they just didn't have the energy to care.

I do not oppose calling Straff chaotic, although I'd rather call him neutral evil in the sense he just picks what benefits him the most at the moment. And you just turned the discussion away from Vasher. -

That seems the essence of non-lawful evil, not chaotic. A non-evil chaotic fellow would probably be more about not accepting to have rules they don't need forced upon them and not forcing others to followrules they don't need. EDIT: althought I've never liked D&D alignements, due to my strange personal views of morality that allow for the existence of a non-subjective good while decrying the idea of "evil" as an illusion. And don't get me started with the law and chaos axis, since my visions of these concepts are ver far away from D&D, and I don't see these concepts as a dichotomy. -

The problem is not whatever he sees his goals as good or not, but that he does not care much for how much destruction he may cause to accomplish them, and takes the more destructive of two paths because the better one is less confortable to him, even if it is proved in the end he would be willing to do it if it was the only choice.A good person is willing to question their morality and would rather take a less confortable choice than take lifes. Vasher rarely does the first when it comes to killing and did the opposite of the second. As for chaotic vs. lawful, is a king who creates up a great, ordered nation and risks himself to mantain it, but also makes himself above his own laws chaotic or lawful? -

Straff seems neutral evil for me. Perhaps lawful, since he seems to care as much for the continued power of his House as for himself.Vasher is lawful neutral with strong good leaning, not good and certainly not chaotic. If he was good, he'd think twice before assuming everybody killed by the nightblood method either had it coming or just not thinking about them, especially if he could prevent the war bloodlessy by revealing himself like he did in the end. Certainly not evil, but not qualifying as good in my opinion because of his disregard for how many lifes he takes when he has other choices. He is lawful because he estabilished the local government by making himself into a god and wants to mantain it at high costs. I think I'd be neutral good with lawful inclinations, if we have to follow this simplistic system. -
Why are they called gnats? Destroying and strenghtening metals seems useful enough on its own.
-
Do we know that gor sure? If not, don't post it like it was obvious. As for shardblade swallowing, you are probably a crazy kandra allomancer anyway. Or an abomination of the dark alley. Most likely both.

WoB also said it is toss up of whatever drabs or lifeless are more invested, so I'd say Brandon is too inconsistent for anything he says to be trustworthy when it comes to drabs.I pesonaly believe nalthians are born with 50% more investiture than avarege humans, but half of their souls are their Breaths, so a drab has 75% of a normal human's investiture.
