  1. It was not accidental. Remember, he was interpretating a criminal pretending to be a lord.
  2. Yes, and he may still reveal his shardblade if he needs to. But it is safer to acess the current state of affairs before deciding whatever to take over or not.
  3. First, you know how he used to feel about lighteyes. A man doens't get over deeply ingrained prejudice in a day, and while he may have learned to not hate them, he still doens't feel comfortable being one.Second, a little less unconfortable questions if he keeps it hidden. Plus, if he went with light eyes and with a shardblade what stops the thug you think is waiting for him from killing him with a club to the skull like you think could happen in the current scenario? EDIT: On depression: he seems mostly keeping together. It is not like there appears to be any battle going on.
  4. Now you are taking everything out if proportion Garfield. It is OK to be pessimistic when your family was likely killed by the Everstorm, and going along with the guard is as good plan as any other to find out how much survived without exposing his Radiancy. However I disagree with Anaximander about Kaladin's parents. He is just too scared of what he may find.
  5. Yes, and he may also have assumed that if he found the right person, the powers could eventualy come, if he spoke the First Ideal and followed it completely. After all, the Almighty didn't say much more than "speak the ancient oaths and return to men the shards they once bore" or something like that.
  6. Stormlight does not heal Shallan's difficulty with facing the truth, and from a storytelling perspective fixing flaws and weaknesses linked to a character's personality with magic is very unsatisfying and can only be worth it if the person does it by their own decision and must commit great sacrifices for or because of it.
  7. Szeth was shaken, scared, had way less stormlight efficience and had an infinitely worst weapon. If he was thinking straight, he could have beaten Kaladin on ground by his more creative and skillful use of lashings, and he could have scored a lucky hit on the air if he focused on dodging when Kal charged him. As proof of Szeth's superior skill with surges, look at his precise using of lashings to dodge and confuse enemy shardbearers. While I think we can't know who of both is a better weapon user, I'd say Kakadin still has some to learn about gravitation.
  8. You don't turn your matter into thought if I understand right. You just shift your Realmatic presence so your Physical aspect interacts with the Cognitive aspect of reality and disappears from the Physical one.The "sea of beads" is how said reality of pure thought is perceived and interacts with your body. To use a simplier metaphor, it is an user interface of sorts.
  9. I was talking not about treatment that teaches how to cope with the weaknesses and especific probkems of living with autism, but the idea of "healing" autism, and also assumed axcellence had included less extreme forms of autism.I think it is a matter of word choices. "Healing autism" seems to me something much more extreme than "treating the sympthons of autism". Of course, it is subjective and I may have understood wrongly. @Garfield: I know about where in the espectrum Renarin is. My question was about axcellence's posts, that seem to refer to much more extreme cases.
  10. The Bands are too relevant to the story of Scadrial for Wax to simply stumble upon them.
  11. I think any sane person would reconsider their life choices while jumping from trains.
  12. I think it was meant as a way to make his reveal as a Radiant less jarring after you look back, since all our other Radiants are exceptional people, and it takes exceptional willpower to pretend you aren't hearing the wails of the damned.
  13. To put it shortly, yes some of us suspect that.
  14. So their advanced fabrials are actualy relics from Yolen? Now that is interesting.
  15. The Stormfather most likely controls, or at least moves, hundreds or thousands of times more investiture than a normal radiant spren, being the soul of the Highstorm itself. While I doubt he can tap into the power of all the stormlight he spreads, he can call the storm to where he wishes while Syl can stick things together and Pattern can open locks. On the "partial bonding", the way I see it it would be like the Stormfather extended part of his soul into the Listeners. In a way, it would be more like possession than bonding, althought thinking better I am usure if it would be even possible, since he seems to only be able toreach the souls of those he isn't bonded with during Highstorms.
  16. Actualy, he can still be shifting into it. The only difference between the two terms is that "shifting" describes better that the Cognitive is just another aspect if reality and you always have some presence in it.
  17. I don't know, his mind seems to be closer to the Physical Realm than other spren, since he appears to the Listeners when they change forms, and to Kaladin in his dreams. I still think he was being honest when he said bonding a human could one day kill him.
  18. I don't think Listeners can merge with the Stormfather, if only because the amount of investiture would ptobably cause a mini-ascension of sorts and destroy their bodies. However, if the bond to the Stormfather is shared by all Bondsmiths, like I believe it is, perhaps Listeners can merge only partialy with his power, which would allow a new form, even if not of divine proportions.
  19. I don't know, it has been some time since I read the book. I remember that most of the scenes that irritated me were when he was lying his way into places and throwing "witty" remarks at the bully. I have little problem with people being dishonest when they have little choice, but I felt he was downright proud with it. And while sarcastic remarks are good in moderation, most "battles of wit" that are not exceptionaly writen feel imature to me. I feel the same about the use of wit in Brandon's books, and if it wasn't for the blurring of truth and lies that gives a philosophical bent to Shallan's cons, and her more altruistic goals, I'd see her in a similar light as Kvothe.
  20. @axcellence: I am sorry, but are we talking about what kinds of autism? Because there are bound to be more extreme cases that need treatment, just like if someone had a panic attack whenever tyat person wasn't alone, treatment would be needed.
  21. The Nightwatcher is not always cruel, young one. Like the faraway sea, her will is shifting, her power unresistable, but sometimes the tide to safe harbours does lead.
  22. Why the Dark Alley still makes me lose my faith in mankind? Last I checked, my soul was still whole.
  23. @Axcellence I am slightly autistic, on roughly the same level as Renarin, although I cope differently and perhaps better, and I can say I find your comparison between autism and a mangled finger very inexact. And are the "problems" that come with autism more because of autism itself, or because society was built in a way that hinders those who are different? EDIT @Maxal: On Renarin's shardblade induced wincing: I took it as meaning mild physical pain, like how the in the exemples you posted of Adolin's wincing there was pain involved. Nothing too extreme, but certainly more than a disconfort.
  24. When I said "extreme", I meant extreme enough to make such a life impossible. Althought I don't support a full "cure" even on these cases.EDIT: Just noticed you meant the other post. Anyway, I will keep my clarification here. EDIT2: And you edited your post again and turns out you meant the opposite I thought you did. Not sorry anymore.
  25. On non-extreme cases, it is debilitating only because other people try to force the autistic individual to behave "normaly" instead of tolerating their differences from the avarege."Healing" non-extreme autism is comparable to overwriting someone's personality because you don't like who they are.
