The Good News Thread: I'm So Excited! And I Just Can't Hide It!
Left replied to traceria's topic in General Discussion
Nooooo The electric slide is a dance from the 80's, it unfortunately still gets played at some dances though, so it can be handy to know how to do it. The Cha Cha slide is much more fun, and since it explains itself I figure I won't need to teach them how -

I get to teach my youth group how to dance tonight, Wooo!!! Gotta teach the guys how to ask a girl to slow dance, the basics of slow dancing, that stuff. Then we get to the fun bit, Line Dances! I'm planning on Cotton Eye Joe and the Cupid Shuffle, a third one that I don't know the name of yet but can look up, and if their bored I guess we can do the Electric Slide( cringe, it's such a boring dance..) If there's time I might go into some swing dance or waltz. -
I actually finished Calamity over a week ago, I just forgot to post on here. I loved it. It worked well. I didn't find it confusing, and I thought the ending felt right and consistent within the context of the trilogy. Since I knew about the announcement of Apocalpse Guard before I read Calamity, I might be more willing to forgive loose ends then some of you. I'm also honestly just chill with not tying every single thread in together. I like it when I can supply the ends to those threads, or when there's only implications instead of concrete.

I think the Breath refered to is symbolic of being alive. It's a pretty common bit of literary and religious symbolism. Since there Are nalthians on Roshar, we should keep an eye out for similar references.

I prefer Mercury through Mars, although I love the whole set. I had homeschool prom last night! It was a lot of fun and I am so tired today hahaha. My legs feel like I ran five miles from all the dancing. -
Guard galore

I was a little disappointed as well. There was So much Ray, Kendra and Carter, it just bogged the episode down. There wasn't nearly enough Snart and Chronos, and some extra Stein would've been great. ....I really wish Savage impressed me more, he's just so bland compared to Reverse Flash, Dhark, and Slade.

The Official Thread of Relationships
Left replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
So I was in a similar situation to Joe's last year. Except I played the role of the girl. I made it clear to my friend that I was crushing on her, and she didn't respond very well. We were pretty distant for a few months. Then...I don't know how, we came back together. I'd changed some things in my life and she'd worked through some things in hers. Now we're each others best friend. I am still crushing on her, but our relationship is focused on being friends, so it works fine. I guess I'm just adding this to say that there is some hope for being able to be friends again if things go south between you and her Joe. -
So I loved, really loved, everything in the trailer. Except whenever the lead opened her mouth. So much...it's almost teenage angst attitude. Maybe I'll grow to like her, but bad first impression. I didn't like BB 8 when I first saw him in a trailer, same with Finn, but I really like them now. Really though, I can't wait, it looks excellent.

I finished Witches Abroad. It was a great Witches book, although much longer than the other ones I've read in the subseries. It was very enjoyable, and I'm realizing how powerful the themes in the Wtiches and Nightwatch series really are. I didn't notice them at first every time, but now that I am, they're very very good. I started Blood of Tyrants, the second to last Temeraire book. It feels like Novik tried very hard to bring back the Victorian epic feel of the first two books that got a little lost through the middle of the series. I like that, but it also means I'll probably read it slower than I have the past several books in the series. As soon as I finish Blood of Tyrants I want to hop into Otherland, a series by Tad Williams that I somehow never really knew existed. I adored Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn, so I'm hoping that Tad will give me another excellent series to enjoy. I'm also in the middle of a re-read of the manga D.gray-Man, although I've had to put it on hold for a week or so because of how busy I've been. Hopefully I'll be able to get a few tankoban read over the next couple days. At some point I'm going to be reading Good Omens by Pratchett and Gaiman, but it'll have to wait till after Otherland, so it'll be a few weeks. I really need to find an audio book to listen to....I might try and get the audio version of The Magic Strings of Frankie Presto by Mitch Albom that my library has.

Exactly! He could have even gotten a cyborg hand, I would've been fine with that. Arrow reaction

So I've been behind on the shows for a while, but I caught up yesterday( although I'm probably going to not catch this week's Arrow and Legends live). Flash was great, I loved Barry messing around with the timeline, I thought it was a lot of fun. Arrow...ehh. The villain was annoying, still upset that Ollicity isn't doing very well, liked Curtis, liked Dhark, loved flashback. Legends: Ray and Kendra are super boring, Sara was good, the Chronos reveal was brilliant!, Snart was beautiful, and there wasn't enough Stein. I was annoyed with Rip claiming that Kendra and Sara were acting oddly because of the Time Drift. I feel like they should Own their actions more than that. I also think Snart not being able to immediately get healed would've been more powerful, if also unrealistic considering the future tech.

Temeraire does have some lows past book two, but it did pick up well in Crucible. I'm going to start the next book in a week or two after I finish Witches Abroad.

So I love photos. I also really, really like having them in my hand vs only on my phone. It's just a personal preference thing. I know I can go to walmart and get my photos printed out there, but it feels like such a pain, and I would like something easier than that. I'm looking for a home photo printer, preferably small. It doesn't have to be wifi connected, cords aren't expensive and I probably have whichever one I need anyway. I really don't need anything but a photo printer, but if it happens to print normal things it's not a deal breaker in any way. Do any of you have a recommendation that fits that description that's under about $90?

Maybe Thaylenah( sorry about the spelling, I'm sure it's wrong). It's a wealthy nation, and isn't as conflict torn as Alethkar and Jah Kaved. I might be willing to go for Herdaz, but I don't know enough about the place yet. I don't think I'd like most of the western kingdoms, and the strict caste and war based society of Alethkar wouldn't work for me. I am a bright eyes, so if I got thrown into Roshar, that would be useful, but I also lack the epicanthic folds so I'd still stick out.

Having a Bad Day?: Get 'yer Hugs here!!
Left replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
So I'm working at a Homeschool Convention in Cinncinati right now. My feet are killing me, and I've got a severe case of butterfingers, I've been dropping things like a hero in an action movie drops one liners. Also, my nose and throat aren't completely normal yet from a cold I had two weeks ago, so I'm having s very hard time vocalizing. That's a problem since I'm trying to sell people stuff. That being said, I'm actually having a really good time. Boy did I pick the wrong shoes though... -
I'm not Jewish, I'm actually Mormon. I love studying other religions, and I've liked several books set during that time period. I saw it at the library, needed an audio book, so I picked it up, read the back cover and was interested.

Daaamn Brandon, back at it again with the foreshadowing. Sorry, couldn't help myself, you left that too open

Any suggestions on who I should read next??
Left replied to The_Lopen's topic in Entertainment Discussion
Brent Weeks and Jim Butcher are very popular around here, and are very accesible and fun. I personally don't read them because I dislike the profanity that's scattered through their books, but I don't know if that's a problem for you. Tad William's Memory, Sorrow, and Thorn trilogy is very good, and he's written other series that are supposed to be good. Terry Pratchett's Discworld is a must, try out Mort, Guards!Guards!, or Going Postal. -

Technically, they're also smaller, tend to be more of a scavenger than a predator, and either significantly more or less intelligent than your average orc. -
So I'm finally getting around to writing out what I think, yay! Affleck and Cavill did great jobs. I really don't like what Snyder has done with their respective characters though. I didn't like Lex. I don't want a Joker for Lex Luthor, the man who runs for president and is one of the classiest villains of all comic book time. Eisenburg's/Snyder's Lex had almost zero class, and way too many psychological issues for me. I really liked the setup for Justice League, although that dream scene was really confusing at first. Wonder Woman was cool, but I didn't feel like I really connected with her at all. I didn't go into the movie expecting to like Doomsday. He was in the trailer, and I was honestly pretty mad that he was, I felt like Snyder was letting way too much out. Once he was introduced though, I thought he was really cool and I was glad that he was in the trailer because otherwise I feel like he would've just been a mute monster snuck in. Knowing what to expect helped me. I don't want to accuse the critics of being "Marvel Fanboys", but I do wonder if they've gotten too used to Marvel super hero movies. It seems like they're all accusing it of not being Marvel ish, there's no quips, it's not happy, there haven't been enough introduction films. I really liked the movie, I liked it more than Man of Steel( which rates below Dark Knight Rises for me), and I felt like it was incredibly carefully put together in a way that's really kind of beautiful. A dark and maybe depressing beautiful, but it's supposed to be. I feel like so many complaints against the film aren't willing to except a basic premise of darkness, which doesn't seem fair to the films. There are issues with the film, I talked about them above, the ones I hear about confuse me though since they don't seem like real issues to me....

I finished Sourcery, and I guess it was good. I was bored by the end. I'm about half way through The Chosen, a book about a pair of Jewish boys in New York during WWII. It's really good. I'm going to the library this afternoon, and should be getting Calamity. The question is, do I wait to read Calamity till after I re listen to Firefight, or do I rush straight in?

What are you playing right now?
Left replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
So I haven't had a lot of time for gaming lately, but when I do, I play Civ V. I've been trying out some new mods, right now I'm in the middle of a game playing as Ohio. Earlier I played on the Discworld as the High Entia from Xenoblade. I really need to finish Valkyria Chronicles, but time.....and then Civ is a much lower stress game which feels really nice right now. -
The Surgebinder Within (Yet Another KR Quiz)
Left replied to Mr. Staccato's topic in Stormlight Archive
This was a FANTASTIC quiz, one of the best sorting quizzes I've ever taken. My top score was Truthwatcher, followed by Lightweaver. Wasn't what I was expecting, but also feels okay.- 151 replies
