I'm organizing a big group of me and my friends to go see it next Saturday. I'm not a huge marvel fan, so it's mostly an excuse to hang with friends, but they're all huge fans so that makes getting them all together easy.

Now that would make sense! Oooooh, yes, that might be the first bit of speculation I've approved of for the past couple months. -

I've got four AP tests too, plus the SAT. The only ones I'm really worried about are AP Phys and AP Micro Econ. I think I'll do okay on Human Geography, and I could rock Macro Econ. -
The Official Thread of Relationships
Left replied to Curious Anamaximder's topic in General Discussion
For the first several months I remember dropping any ideas of trying to be anything more than friends. I really loved this person and so I decided that a relationship, even if only based on friendship, was far more important to me than my own pride or anything else. So I really had to change my behavior, really work to just be the best FRIEND I could be. She then had times when she really needed a friend, and not really anything but a friend, so I think that really let us restart our relationship. Because for about six weeks, it was pretty darn distant. Don't be pushy about being friends, I didn't try to force contact between us just because I missed her, I tried to let the circumstances flow and be as nice and stuff as possible when we were together. Doing that kept it from being awkward for her, which would probably have made her want to pull away. Yours is different obviously since y'all are different people and she's graduating and all that, so hopefully at least part of my stuff is helpful. -

I actually got asked why I wanted to work at the Ymca I work at now in my job interview, and my answer basically was, because I have the training and you're hiring. (Umm duhh) I don't know if there's a question that seems as dumb in job interviews as this one.- 1963 replies

Hit by a truck is like saying you feel like you were run over in your sleep. So very sore, tired, not good. Ummm, I have no idea about the stump. Do you have s literal stump you set alight each night? -

All humor aside, this is EXACTLY what you should try to do with your resume when you're just getting started. Once you get in the door and are able to add job experience and stuff, the resume will feel less fluffy. Even then you're still going to be spinning your resumes for a looong time- 1963 replies

What are you playing right now?
Left replied to Link Von Kelsier Harvey's topic in Entertainment Discussion
I'm going to buy my friend Baldur's Gate Enhanced Edition so we can play through it together with multiplayer. Hopefully we can get around the bugs, I'm thinking I might wait for a few weeks just so that they can patch the game first. -
Yeah, most of our conversations about the Flash and the other CW DC shows are in the Arrowverse thread. I've been to busy to talk about the latest events, but I have been watching all three every week.

Storms ....I'm going to have a hard time just getting the dice let alone learning enough of this stuff and then teaching it *hysterical laughter* Hmmm, I'll have to keep thinking about this. Thank you Quiver!

So I need some help. One of my best friends basically just asked me on a date. She knows I play D&D based video games, so she figured it'd be fun if I taught her how to play Dungeons and Dragons and stuff. The thing is, I've never played a live game, so I don't know anything about set up, dice, the actual rules, how many people would be good to play with, that kind of thing. So please please please, help a guy out with a date! Where can I find some good resources online to learn the things I need to know? Any other advice would be great too!

Just remember that life Without pretty girls is far worse, imo anyway. That was almost always the worst part about Boy Scout Camp for me, I had to spend a week surrounded by two hundred guys and maybe some Senior female scout leaders :| I struggle interacting with guys, so yeah, I'm glad I'm done with scout camp and don't have to go anymore. If you'd like advice from a complete stranger, don't know why you would but I feel like giving it, try becoming friends with s girl who isn't really pretty (however you define pretty) but is still nice and fun to be around. It might help your brain (or as Sir Pratchett likes to say, your glands) get used to girls again so that you register them as People first, not cute chickas. -

I've been lifeguarding for a six hour shift...I've guarded scuba training, lifeguard training, and a pool party..... Lifeguarding really isn't conducive to shifts this long. I'm SO burned out, and I just want to go home and stuff my face :/ -

Thanks for the ideas! I am thinking that a Just Dance off with wii sports resort could be fun, than Princess Bride or something. Or there's a few amusement parks around here, and mum might be able to find some coupons. I'm not sure how my best friend is with roller coasters though, so I'm not sure about that one. Please keep the ideas coming guys! The more I think about this the more I realize how bad I am at figuring this kind of thing out- 1963 replies

I'm really not sure where to put this, especially since it seems like it'd be kinda silly to create a whole thread for it. So my birthday is in like six weeks. I'll be seventeen. I'm going to be leaving the country like the day after, and when I come back, I'll be moving directly to Provo Utah instead of back here to Ohio. So I wanna have a big party, see most of my friends for the last time, have one last hurrah before I become a Wizarding World Adult The thing is, I haven't done a birthday party since I was like eight. I didn't have friends I wanted to invite to a party after that really, and last year I went on s date instead of doing a party. So I'm trying to come up with ideas, but I'm stumped. What're some fun things to do? I'm trying to avoid it being just a themed board game night or anything, but don't want to break the bank either...- 1963 replies

Wow, around here Walmart is open 24/7, so there's actually dedicated late night shoppers who go there in the middle of the night to avoid crowds. #OhioLife #OhioEntertainment -
I didn't initially think it was Supe's symbol, but more and more I think it is. I originally thought of it more as like a S with a cross or spear through it, but Supe's symbol of hope makes a lot of sense to me now.

I finally finished Blood of Tyrants. Shwoo, I maybe should have paced myself better. I took the last third of the book at a sprint, which really doesn't work well with Noviks writing, so it kinda wore my brain out. It was good, but I think I'll be glad when I've finished this series, it's gone on long enough. I only have a very few chapters left in the manga series I'm reading, which is very sad. It's been very confusing though, which is also sad I'm going to jump into Otherland tonight, and I'm going to read some Modesitt afterwards. I might read Good Omens at the same time as I read Otherland, because I think I'm going to need a smaller book to help pace. Otherland is about 800 pages, and I'll just end up quitting if it's the only thing I try to read.

I just realized I got so caught up in commenting on other things that I haven't updated what I've been reading. I've finished the re-read of D.Gray-Man, and am almost finished with the new chapters I've never read. I'm almost done with Blood of Tyrants. It's gotten SO much better than the middling Temeraire books, although it's still not quite as good as the first two. I went ahead and read the first chapter of Otherland, and it was interesting. I'm looking forward to actually starting it.

I haven't even finished two, but I'm going to start quoting the Dresden fans and beat them to the punch. "About midway through book three things start getting Badchull, flipping Awesome!!" "It really picks up after book three, from good to fantastic!" "I'm going to propose marriage to the Dresden files, the books past three were just so beautiful and awesome". *Bows and exits before the Dresden fandom can kill me for teasing them*

L.E. Modesitt has some very strong points, and some very weak points. His early writing is just bad, both Sci-fi and fantasy. The stories and themes might be okay, but they are buried underneath horrible writing. His quality improved in the mid to late nineties or so, although to this day I still think he needs a better editor. The world building in his worlds is pretty good to first class. The magic systems in his fantasy are good, and aren't purely soft magic systems, but aren't necessarily Hard systems either. His sci-fi in a way takes the same approach. The advanced tech can do cool things, but there are limits placed on everything, so there is a feeling of realism and limitation that doesn't always appear in science fiction. His content levels for the past twenty years are pg-13. Some language, some hinting around sex scenes, but rarely anything explicit or inappropriate in any way. Some of his very old sci fi had more explicit sex, but it's not as intense as say the Felurian scenes in The Name of the Wind. I know there's some f-bombs in the Spellsong Sorceress series, and in some of the early sci fi. I would recommend starting with the Imager Portfolio, a fantasy series that feels almost Sanderson esque. Currently there's a trilogy, then a prequel series, then a stand alone set in between the two. I would recommend reading in order of publication. The Corean Chronicles are a decent fantasy series, but might not be what you should start with. I would stay away from the Recluse books, even though they're his most famous, because the first ones are written SO badly, and they don't follow a continuing plot. For science fiction, try The Octagonal Raven, Haze, or the Ecolitan series. Ecolitan starts with the Ecolitan Prime omnibus, and is followed by a distant sequel in the Ecolitan and Empire omnibus. All of his books are very philosophical in nature, with heavy tones of social, cultural, political, or economic critique. It can be annoying, or it can be really interesting. I really enjoy Modesitt's work, and have read a majority of it.

I'm super hyped. I loved the animated Dr Strange film that was released a couple years ago, and I can't wait to see Benedict kick some mystical butt. I like that this seems to me much less of a comedy than the majority of Marvels films of late, I like a more serious tone. I do agree that it would be really good if this was only partly an origin story film.
