Two weeks, in a row. For reals. We're here. We're discussing lore in Elantris, chapters 4-6. Can we make it interesting when it's all setup? Do you like talking about Jindoeese food? How many cannibal jokes can we make? Will they be better or worse than the meat jokes? Will you imagine a shirtless Hrathen fighting a giant lizard?
You be the judge.
The answer: we make fun of Mi'ch being really bad at pronouncing Fjordell names.
Also, we're pleased to say that Dragonmount.com is back online now. At the time of the recording it wasn't. Good job guys for getting through that attack! You make our server look like a broken dam.
Spoilers: Again, there's Elantris spoilers (duh), slight discussion of Emperor's Soul, and some talk of Odium.
(Don't Saze me, bro)
Fun Facts (that we missed):
Per Ashe's line about serving Sarene's family for a couple of centuries, Skai and Aona have been dead for at least two centuries at the beginning of the book
According to the annotations, Brandon knows that the dramatic eye lock from chapter two is cliche, but still loves it.
The sun rises in the east.
Our illustrious Josh and Mi'ch have captured of the second half of the Stormlight 2 Parshendi reading and Nahel bonded the crap out of it. This reading starts midway through the scene that's already been read before, but appears to go to the end of the chapter.
And man, it is awesome. We'll leave in the intro. It starts at about 4:10. We hope you like it! Obviously, if you want to be Stormlight Archive 2 spoiler free, don't listen to this. But for everyone else who lusts for more amazing Parshendi stuff, here it is!

(We do have more audio, but it's like five to six hours of it. We figured we would post this, because you've been waiting. Most of the other stuff is Q&A at the line, which doesn't have very many cool factoids. It'll be up... soon.)
Hmmm, that is interesting, but I am also going to say coincidence. It's possible the writers just made up the name and made it sound Mistborny (and did not consult Brandon about it), and that's all there is to it. Not all cities have to be named after people.
Worth a question to Brandon, though, that's for sure.
Minor point of order, but the third person is from a world we haven't seen. So probably from White Sands or Dragonsteel, not Warbreaker 2. Just thought I'd point that out
This isn't a bad idea. Interesting.
We're back, and better (allegedly) than ever! We're switching it up, and now the main Shardcast will be our podcast where we go reading through each book. No, we aren't narrating every book--we know, you're sad--but Mi'ch, Josh, and Eric are here to give you commentary on the books, annotations, and everything! And try to make it entertaining, somehow. This episode's entertainment comes from meat. Vegetarians need not apply. You'll see.
Starting off Season 1 of Shardcast, we will be reading through Elantris, and shockingly, we start at the beginning of that book, and go through Chapter 3. There's arguing about who is our favorite character, discussion of mold, beheadings, all leading up to what is surely the literal recording of the sound the Reod made. It is horrifying, because that's what Shardcast is all about. Apparently.
Quick disclaimer: if you are adamantly opposed to light innuendo, maybe sit this one out? We'll be better next time. It's all Josh and Eric's fault.
Spoiler Warning: Obviously, there will be Elantris spoilers, but we also go into a light Emperor's Soul discussion, a small Way of Kings spoiler, and slight Mistborn spoilers.
(What of the old podcasts? They are Season 0 now. Don't worry, we will have fun theoretical stuff for you theorizers. Just you wait.)
Fun Facts:
The title of Elantris was originally "Adonis", and was changed only after Brandon's reading group asked him what relation Greece had to his story.
Our server people informs us that the site will be down for a bit, tonight, November 18th at 3am EDT. The downtime should not be longer than 5-7 minutes. (For once, our downtime is scheduled)
The answer to why the Parshendi is in the rest of the chapter, which Josh got audio on Tuesday. He's editing it (he had three hours total of audio). And with luck, today he will have even more audio.
(And the reason why they did it is tantalizingly awesome)
With Emperor's Soul out (and now out in ebook--if you bought the book, you can get the ebook for free), what's next in the Cosmere? Why, it's Stormlight 2, and here's a really, really exciting treat for you if you can't wait for more Stormlight.
Brandon read a scene from Stormlight 2. So, you know, if you don't want spoilers, I'd suggest you don't look at it.
There's both a complete audio file of it, where Brandon reads the wind scene in A Memory of Light and then transitions into the scene, as well as a
.And let me tell you, it is pretty amazing. I won't spoil it for you, but it's awesome.
You can find our discussion topic on it here!
Thanks Stringbean and Kaladin Stormblessed! This is awesome!
