  1. In Utah visiting Josh and Mi'ch, prepping to do some major site stuff. It's going to be pretty sweet!!

  2. You win 17th Shard. Just. That is perfect.
  3. If I didn't like Partials, do you think Fragments would redeem it for me?
  4. Not a bad idea at all, I'll try and integrate that into the main page.
  5. No worries, Aaradel. I just don't want its secrets to come out, as the book will be better with us not knowing. And it's generally been our policy not to discuss unpublished works. There are a variety of reasons for this. If it's publicly available (like the Liar sample chapters), it's okay to talk about. If not, then no.
  6. I would prefer if you do not post Dragonsteel spoilers. I have removed the Dragonsteel related content, in addition to Kurk's response about it.
  7. This thread is amazing. I love it.

I've never seen that happen either, Joe. However, do note that the "active post" count on one's profile page is off a little bit from the post count on topics. I believe this is because the latter includes comments and other things on non-forum related posts, whereas the one in the profile page does not, for whatever reason. All's good.
  9. The renowned Michael Whelan--the cover artist of The Way of Kings and many other fantasy covers, such as the cover for A Memory of Light--will return to do the cover for the second Stormlight novel, Words of Radiance. Tor announced the news earlier today. It was never a sure thing that Whelan would return, as he is incredibly busy. But Whelan wrote some initial thoughts on Words of Radiance, and it seems Whelan was suitably impressed once again: So well, if you weren't excited for Words of Radiance already, you should be, clearly.
  10. Oops. I forgot to remove the Emperor's Soul Spoiler board. I meant to remove it... I don't know, a month after release? (Since it wasn't the most major thing). And I agree, time for the Words of Radiance spoiler board! I'll get it up in the next day or two

Thaaat is really bizarre that there's a time delay for you. I've never seen that before.
  12. We typically default to making almost all named things into their own article, so Ulef right now has his own article. I'm not sure a big index would be as advisable, but I don't know. At the moment, if you want to find all of these minor characters, you can use http://coppermind.net/wiki/Category:Scadrian to get every Mistborn character.

On my screen, as of me seeing this, you are at 950. Does it still say 947 on your computer?
  14. Sure, but Kurk is relaxing on the whole issue, so you should chillax, too. No harm done, man. Hey as long as you can produce citations if someone calls you on it, I'm cool with it
  15. But with the description of that post being Cosmere 201, that by default makes it a guide. An assist to someone new to the cosmere, who wants to know things. And me personally, if I was joining the fandom at this point, I would need some assistance. The point of the thread in question is to assist, and so that requires citations. I know that with some esoteric facts, I would like to see where they came from. I don't feel like saying "you need to just do the work" is very useful for new members of 17th Shard. Let's be honest: it is pretty hard to get a handle on all the facts that came out from all these interviews. We can help some. Now, to be clear, I do not think every fact in every theory should be cited. But I do think a lot of facts in guides should be, and a lot of more esoteric facts in theories are easy to cite. Honestly, most of the work is finding the quote in the first place, so the citation is the easiest possible thing. I think, Kurk, you might be a little too zealous on this :P/> But, with guides? I think it is entirely reasonable that if you write a guide it should be more cited. In a guide, citations are very useful. But generally in theories, should everything be cited? Eh, I don't think so. That is up to the discretion of the theory author. Google works okay in this case with blocks of quotes, but I know I've had conversations with Windy that depended on a fact that we couldn't quite remember where it came from, and that search was very hard. Does that seem reasonable? Guides need citations. Theories need citations for esoteric facts, but ultimately it is up to the author. And you should be expected to produce citations when prompted. I think in all things there needs to be a balance when it comes to theories. But if I'm writing a guide, that's different. EDIT: Also, good on you Nepene for adding citations. Thank you. Would you guys like a guide explaining how to cite from the database? I realize my previous post didn't make as much sense as it should.
  16. I'm double posting, because it really warrants its own post: dang dude, that is an awesome Tresting article. You really know your stuff! As well as wiki stuff too. Amazing. Please stick around, for the sake of us all XD Because you are awesome.
  17. The main benefit to the Theoryland Interview Database is that you can get direct links to specific entries. You just can't do it from the search results. Linking to the search results page is useless. You need to go to the specific interview, and then see what # it is. This makes it easier for everyone involved--the wiki, the forums, and everything. So, do that. Especially in such a quote heavy thread. Certain facts are not intuitive and require citation. I've been doing a great deal of editing on the Coppermind and cosmere facts always need clear citations. This is no different.
  18. Wow, that is awesome that Eshonai is probably book four. I am so excited for the next Stormlight books!!! Yes, multiple exclamation points were necessary. EDIT: Yeah, Mi'ch reported that a long time ago. Words of Radiance is far superior.
  19. This is pretty awesome, especially the sorted view, which is great for seeing factoids on particular topics. I have been looking through the Mistborn articles recently and they aren't super awesome on the whole. So this is great I would recommend creating a Tresting article for sure. General culture information would be best in the Final Empire article, as well as foodstuffs. Life as a plantation skaa would be information best served in the skaa article. Let me know if you need any help with anything; us wikiers are all here to help, and I'm really excited for this project of yours! I think it'll help things a lot.
  20. Boom, main page article: I included that info about Lightweaving being shared between Roshar and Yolen, but looks like Kurk beat me to it mentioning it here Lightweaving is an illusion magic, by the way. If Moshe suggested that title for Shallan's book, do you think that means Shallan is a Lightweaver? Seems kind of odd for that to include Soulcasting, though. I personally think the title is awesome.
  21. The second book in the Stormlight Archive now officially has a title: Words of Radiance.. Tor revealed it earlier today and Brandon also has comments on his choice of the title, how it changed from his original choice, The Book of Endless Pages, and more, so click the link to check it out. In case you didn't know, book two has Shallan's flashback sequence. Also of interest is the working title of book three--Szeth's book--as Stones Unhallowed, which might change, and book five--Dalinar's--The Highprince of War, which we have reported on before. However, Brandon says that title will most assuredly change. You may also be interested to hear that Brandon revealed another Radiant Order: Lightweavers. For those of you really with it in the cosmere mythos, Lightweaving is a magic system shared between Roshar and Yolen (which we revealed a while ago in our interview with Brandon). Yolen is of particular interest because that is the world that Dragonsteel and the Liar of Partinel were set on, which deals with Hoid's origin story. In fact, it's also been theorized that Hoid may use Lightweaving, an illusion magic. What do you think of the title? Check out our discussion here!
  22. Hmmm, okay. Josh, test Atomic Web Browser on your iPhone and see if you can reproduce it?
  23. Double posting. Deal with it
  24. To add to the calculus factoids, well, there are certain generalizations of the integral that really do give you more information than the usual sort of integration (the one with rectangles--that is, Riemann integration). That kind, called Lebesque integration--defined much, much differently--allows you to integrate things that you couldn't normally. Things with an infinite, uncountable set of discontinuities and such. It replicates usual Riemann integration results on the usual things, but it allows you to integrate more... exotic functions, let's say. So, you know, there are good generalizations of integration But that's more or less irrelevant to the topic at hand XD
