Really tempted to go to SpoCon with you... The timing in the summer may just work, too...
-
I don't think so. From this epigraph: Emphasis mine. This strongly suggests to me that he found those beads there, not create them.
-
Yes, it is! I totally forgot to mention that. I will edit it into the post!
-
Hah! Good to know we are getting some good buzz I'm glad you made it here!

The reputation system appears to be broken on our main page. I will be sending a support ticket soon, but just wanted to let you guys know that I know about it

We've been horrible teases, but here you have it: we're doing an awesome giveaway for the upcoming Rithmatist release. We have so much awesome swag that we have to give it away, lest our dwellings explode from the awesomeness. What all do we have? Well, we have advance copies of The Rithmatist, some ARCs of Legion, and a whole bunch of goodie bags that every Rithmatist needs. So, we will have three different prize tiers, with a total of ten winners: The Grand Prize (2): An ARC of The Rithmatist, an ARC of Legion, and a Rithmatist goodie bag. The One With Unrelated Prizes (2): An ARC of Legion, plus a Rithmatist goodie bag. The "You'll Still Be A Great Duster" Prize (6): A Rithmatist goodie bag. At this point, you may be completely vexed at what this goodie bag actually contains. Why, it's everything a beginning Duster needs at Armedius Academy. You get two pieces of street chalk, because you do not want your professors catching you without your chalk in your first year, especially not Professor Nalizar. And you also have a guide to basic Rithmatics: all four basic Rithmatic lines, and sketches of every defense you'll ever need. With both of these tools at your disposal, you can't possibly lose the Melee! You may just be up to snuff to defend the United Isles against the wild chalklings at Nebrask. I totally want to join the fight at the Tower of Nebrask. How do I get these wonderful prizes? We're glad you asked, random Duster! To join, all you have to do is: 1. Log into your 17th Shard account (or register for one up at the top!). Make sure your email address is current so we can contact you if you've won! 2. Comment on this post here! 3. If you enter with more than one account, you WILL be immediately disqualified! It's that easy! You have until April 2nd, at 10:00pm MDT (9:00pm Pacific Daylight Time), and then we'll be contacting the winners by email and send out your prizes shortly! And yes, if you're international, you can still win! This isn't US only Major Edit! We've been having some trouble with people entering with multiple accounts. As a reminder: if you do this, you will be disqualified. (I'm looking at you, guy who's entered 14 times. You get nothing. YOU LOSE! Good day sir!)

Oh, that makes total sense. I (and others) sort of reserve the word "intent" as the word for the name of a Shard or Splinter. That defining trait of the force. Its driving intent, rather. You are welcome to use intent however you'd like, but just to not get it confusing, may I recommend "will" or willpower? Haha. (My intent definition came about in the Principle of Intent: http://www.17thshard.com/forum/topic/369-theory-the-principle-of-intent/ Though, I think it was used before me as well in that way.)

Probably way too nerdy, but here you go: [23:42] <Windrunner17> I "have" a test tomorrow [23:42] <Chaos2651> haha [23:42] <Chaos2651> it's only precalc [23:44] <Windrunner17> This is my fancy algebra [23:45] <Chaos2651> do you WANT to know about fancy algebra? [23:45] <Chaos2651> http://crazyproject.wordpress.com/2010/04/28/transitive-group-actions-induce-transitive-actions-on-the-orbits-of-the-action-of-a-subgroup/ [23:45] * Windrunner17 stutters [23:45] <Chaos2651> just read the question statement. [23:45] <Windrunner17> Nnn-no sir [23:45] * Windrunner17 dies [23:46] <Windrunner17> Heh, simple [23:46] <Windrunner17> An easy way to show in 2: Since all orbits of on have the same cardinality, we see that (using the second isomorphism theorem). Also since is transitive, (using that subgroup index is multiplicative). Substituting this yields that . [23:46] <Chaos2651> no no, that comment there makes it way easier XD [23:47] <Chaos2651> personally I do like this guy's writing because we get to write stab a lot. [23:47] <Chaos2651> XD [23:47] <Windrunner17> XD [23:47] <Chaos2651> which is short for stabilizer, which amuses me endlessly [23:47] <Chaos2651> sadly my book does not use that notation [23:47] <Windrunner17> You're becoming Ruin... [23:47] <Chaos2651> STAB [23:48] <Chaos2651> STAB IT [23:48] <Chaos2651> MAKE IT A NORMAL SUBGROUP [23:48] <Chaos2651> AND THEN THROW IT IN THE ORBITS [23:48] <Chaos2651> ...BUT YOU KNOW SINCE THE GROUP ACTION IS TRANSITIVE THERE'S ONLY ONE ORBIT [23:48] <Chaos2651> SO... YEAH. [23:48] <Chaos2651> Ati happened to be a mathematician. [23:48] <Windrunner17> That would be cool [23:49] <Chaos2651> I WILL DESTROY YOU BY MAKING YOU LISTEN TO ALGEBRA PROOFS [23:49] <Chaos2651> Vin: NOOOOO!!!!! [23:49] <Windrunner17> Are all mathematicians weak-willed too? [23:49] <Windrunner17> That would kill Vin [23:49] <Chaos2651> Noorden: That'd be sweet sign me up! [23:49] <Windrunner17> Even Preservation Vin [23:50] <Chaos2651> XDXD

Yes, but the Shaod, for example, gives such a connection to the Dor, so I sort of grouped it with that. I suppose you could interpret it that way, though, but it's a connection on a lower level than being, say, a Sliver. I kind of am on board with what you mean though, I just wouldn't state it like that.
-
I think that's a bit too convoluted of an example (but then, that entire topic is very long and convoluted to the point of probably not being the most elegant). I mean, in that same conversation about Commands, he did say Aons are the focus for AonDor. I was saying "forms" because that's the only term I can think which generalizes the idea of Aons into more Selian things, like the Dakhor and soulstamps, if that makes sense. I can kind of see what you mean, I suppose, but it is rather complicated and I don't think people have said it super elegantly. Also, what do you mean by "intent"? Because I seem to have a different definition from yours.

I'm double posting to illustrating this point Test! Theoretically (I tested this in a previous topic), if you are using the Rich Text Editor and you double space the quotes like this, it does work. However putting a line in the normal, non-formatty (very precise terminology; shush I'm tired) text editor that's BBCode only, this does not work. So make sure you doing in the RTE. EDIT: Mission accomplished I agree it is very weird it does that, but I'm glad there is a workaround, because that's been bugging me.

Now, don't necessarily take the Physical aspect of a magic thing too seriously; that is very theoretical in nature and very unconfirmed. Realmatics can be tricky like that. For example, what is the "Physical" part of AonDor? Not so easy to answer. Though your quote about the colorblind thing is pretty awesome. Despite my warning, I totally buy that Endowment would be blind to color. There aren't really any other confirmed foci that wouldn't have heard of already. Metal on Scadrial (obviously), Commands on Nalthis, "forms" on Sel--which is an odd word because kinda makes sense given the shapes, so you know exactly what it is referring to. Roshar is very much in the air. I think there's like eight pages of discussion on the Focuses on Roshar thread with no definitive conclusion, and I'm sure it's been heavily discussed since then, too.

Those quotes don't really discuss lerasium's abilities directly. That first quote is actually irrelevant to that subject; that first quote doesn't tell us anything new about lerasium, as it says that "In the case of concentrated Preservation, it gives one a permanent connection to the mists and the powers of creation. (I.e., it makes them an Allomancer.)". It doesn't give anything new because that is what it means to be a Mistborn--to essentially have a lot of Preservation inside you, with some added details in there. Not really relevant quotes, but they are definitely some of my favorites. That first one is very theoretically important, but not for the case at hand, I'm afraid.
-
I noticed that too. It's annoying. I'm looking into it, but there may not be a way to change it.
-
Elend essentially saw Preservation's plan for victory, and understood that with them burning the atium away, they could win. EDIT: Found the quote on that.
-
You have to remember that--if I recall correctly--part of the idea of Preservation betraying Ruin was that he hid the atium from him. That was the way I understood it. He hid the atium from Ruin and "exchanged" cadmium and bendalloy on the Allomantic Table for atium and malatium. Presumably, this fiddling with the magic system allowed atium Mistings to exist (however, I suppose it is possible that atium Mistings still exist; I have no real idea, but this makes sense in my brain). The atium Mistings were key, of course, because then you have a group of people who can burn that atium, and when that atium is burned, Ruin would have to wait for it to return to the Pits before he could metabolize it and win. Long story short, I believe the Pits to be a construct of Preservation for atium to appear so he could eventually prevail. Actually, now that I look at the MB3 epigraphs, this is entirely accurate: So while atium had a natural outlet, that was merely a function of Preservation's prison of Ruin. That is the only reason atium exists. Lerasium would not have a similar outlet, because Preservation wasn't the one imprisoned. Lerasium wouldn't exist naturally. Which does beg the question, how did lerasium form? I certainly don't have an answer to that, and I'm fairly certain no one does. The coalescing of the Well's power is one guess, but it's just a guess. It is possible simply willed there to be those beads of lerasium in the first place. Who knows? Since lerasium rewrites Spiritual DNA, if you knew enough about the magic before ingesting it, it could do a great many things, like give you a magic that was totally not Allomancy.
-
Excellent! I'm happy it has worked itself out, because that is really annoying for sure
-
Oh, you were having this problem before we upgraded? Very bizarre. I always remained logged in on all devices before. Let me know how it turns out and if you're still having the issue
-
It is still 1040 pixels wide, as it was in the previous skin. That shouldn't have changed. I don't remember if there was some minor scaling to scale the width down, but I'll investigate that later. Still, I'm pretty sure it's always been 1040 wide.

Well, Brandon told me that Commands are indeed the focus, actually It was a long time ago, actually, before 17S existed. But, that question of mine that you linked was not blind in that way--I already knew Commands were its focus. The art part, however, was me shooting in the air. But Commands are definitely the focus for Awakening. EDIT: It is possible that Shards are blind to a magic's Physical aspect, from the idea that every magic system has three parts. That need not be the foci, as Commands are more of a Cognitive foci in my opinion, and there's been long debate on how the focus for Surgebinding goes. But the Physical part of Awakening? Yeah, that seems like color to me.

No worries

Indeed, right you are. As much as I'd love Nightblood, I must say, second Mistborn trilogy is definitely something I'd want more.

Which Brandon Character Would You Date?
Chaos replied to Chaos's topic in General Brandon Discussion
Your dating life is quite a bit more interesting than mine, clearly Unrelated: if I was a girl, I would fall for Elend, no question. That's easy. -
I think Mi'ch's comment about "regular paper" only referred to Krelian's request of wanting to see what one would look like. After all, she said: Is that better?

Clearly we must fight to the death for Shallan.
