  1. Hey dudes, our host is doing upgrades today... sometime. It isn't quite certain when. You can check out when it happens here: http://status.namecheap.com/?p=10749 It should theoretically just last an hour.
  2. I would say that we delayed ShardCast for a "very special guest" (after all, the only way you can summon Inquisitor Santa is by murdering skaa half-breeds), but it's actually totally my fault with traveling and issues coming up with that. So, for once you now know why you precious (or loathed!) ShardCast was delayed, and you can blame me. New episodes come back Monday, and weekly afterwards! For reals this time.
  3. I have no idea how you even managed to get so much BBCode in that sig, dude EDIT: Try recoding... that whole thing.
  4. Holy crap. Well, I've now banned the spammer and I will reverse the downvotes very soon.

  5. Well, I think our wiki should be what you're looking for: http://coppermind.net/wiki/Coppermind:Welcome Virtually every term or place you could think of has an article at this point.
  6. It's one Rosharan week later (actually two, whatever), so it's time for some Shardcast, and this time it's Episode Three: Revenge of the Plot. Yes, in chapters 7-9, some inklings of the plot actually happened, so of course Eric got bored and read the rest of the book. And, as such, has no idea what happened in the actual triad we were discussing. We solve many mysteries this week, like who is Mi'chelle's sister? Will Eric get shanked? Why is Josh invading someone's box? What did Eric do to need to be censored? (Okay, we don't really solve that last one. That's why it's censored.) Because really, what more could ask from Shardcast than such edgy humor like that? Oh, right, racism. Well, we have that too. Click on, open the door to the Dor and find out the answers you seek. Missed Facts: Hrathen originally takes credit for the fall of Duladen. Brandon took this out because he felt it was too heavy handed for an "innocent" meeting. Because of the triad system, Brandon felt the need to have something important to the characters happen in each chapter. Errata: So I clearly misremembered Chapter 8, and thought the lunch Josh was referring to was in this chapter. It is not. So, Josh is totally right in that this lunch scene was pretty unnecessary.
  7. Oops! Looks like a miscommunication on our part. Sorry about that (and sorry I've missed it until now). The posts are re-approved now. Yes.
  8. That may be true (though Windy's point is a good counter to that). But still, wouldn't you feel better going to some random, uninhabited world in the middle of nowhere that Odium's never been to, rather than practically adjacent to him? At this juncture that'd be like... one of the last places I'd choose to be, if I were that Shard.
  9. Ding ding ding. It's gotta just be because of the number. I suppose, but the planet of Silence Divine is in the same system as Roshar. Given Odium's... interest in Roshar, I would think that the Shard would want to get as far from Odium as possible.
  10. Hey dudes, I have some interesting factoids for you. So, I always make sure to order a signed book from Sam Weller's (now Weller's Bookworks) and ask some sort of ridiculous cosmere question. I strongly believe I've posted what was signed in my Alloy of Law copy, but I honestly can't find it (though it was referenced in one of the first Shardcasts: ). So, I guess I'm posting that too, again. In Alloy, I asked: "Give us the name of a Shard's intent we have not seen before." Answer: "There is one who just wants to hide and survive. In Emperor's Soul, I asked: "Is the reason why it is hard to get to Shadesmar on Sel because Devotion and Dominion being Splintered?" Answer: "That is part of it (a little)." Then, hidden later in the book: "Has to do with the name of that expanse." Discuss.
  11. I just saved it as a Google doc https://docs.google.com/open?id=1dXphBKaOugfkC_7r1-eFqWgFeD7jfCuNcR_-Ia-zEB1FDXEwvVfPfFAzDyWE
  12. Not sure why attachments aren't working for that file type (maybe not saving as a docx? I don't know). You can email it to me ([email protected]), or you could share a Google doc. Whatever works! EDIT: I've added a few more attachment types, so attaching should work now. In theory.
  13. Apparently there is a mysterious thing happening to emoticons recently, involving the board magically adding a /> to emoticons. We're aware of the issue and trying to figure out what's going on, and why it is suddenly appearing now.
  14. That is very, very, very bizarre. By the way dudes, if you see site errors like this, please post in the Site Issues forum so I see it more quickly. Looking into it.
  15. Boom, the Shallan reading:
  16. The illustrious Josh and Mi'chelle have gone to the recent signing on Thursday, and Brandon has read a new section of Stormlight 2 (it's untitled still, by the way). And what is it now? It's a Shallan flashback. Short, but oh so sweet. It starts four minutes in. There's an intro of Brandon talking before the reading. Listen. Enjoy. And then be crestfallen that you cannot read more. http://www.17thshard.com/interviews/Shallan%20flashback%201.mp3 Download this file (The audio seems to cut off, but he continued to read the Eshonai viewpoint we've already posted on.)
  17. I need to step in a little, I think. Cool down, Nepene and Windy. I think it is premature to say that the Skaze have an influence in Bloodsealing. After all, there's no corollary to Seons in the Rose Empire, so it is very unfounded to say that Seons or Skaze are influencing the magic. They may not even be there. Furthermore, I do agree that there's no evidence of Splinter based magic on Sel (they may exist, though, on planets that have no Shardic influence and only have a Splinter there). Because, one important part of Splinters is that they often have their own intent. The way one accesses the power must be line with the power's intent, and I highly imagine that a Splinter based magic system would involve you using the Splinter's intent instead of the Shard's--or the Splinter's interpretation of the Shard's intent. The actual mechanics of that doesn't really matter; all I'm saying is that invoking Splinters is probably not the simplest explanation. A far simpler explanation instead of invoking Splinters is that different regions may have different methods of doing magic, say, in line with Dominion. The region breaking could be because magic on Sel changed after Devotion and Dominion Splintered. So, Dakhor may just be the Fjordell method of doing magic in line with Dominion's intent (and thus opening a conduit to the Dor), and Bloodsealing may be a different method of doing the same thing somewhere else. No Skaze required! In fact, let me say that (because I have unposted audio) Bloodsealing is not a subset of Forgery. They are related, but different. So, it's perfectly reasonable that Bloodsealing may be one manifestation of magic in line with Dominion's power. Nothing wrong with that at all. I think that was primarily what Windy was trying to get at there. Also, Windy stated that very poorly, because Wyrn clearly has some future sight power. You are certainly right about that Nepene. That is a much better way of phrasing the theory. It wasn't well stated it before, hence the confusion.
  18. Josh and Mi'ch will be there and will be recording lots of audio.
  19. Would you guys like some Montana snow?
  20. That's not always true. There are plenty of places which accepts Times New Roman as well.
  21. I'm not sure it beats Changes, but it sure as heck equals it. So awesome.
  22. I'm glad you like it!
  23. There is a dragon in that version of Dragonsteel, yes.
  24. What is this madness? Another podcast? Okay, so it's a little later than one week later, but in the span of Monday to Sunday, we freaking made it. Darn straight. Enjoy it:
