This was because Mim had incredibly awful aim when it came to shurikens and was likely to hit any nearby bystanders.

So Mim tried to throw shurikens at the old man, but missed horribly and hit the newcomer.

Mim (who was one autocorrect away from being called Mom) laughed at Nerdy’s challenge. “I am apprenticed under the greatest ninja this world has ever known! I will fight you, but our duel shall be swift indeed.”

Non thought it would be funny to teach Mim to wax inside and outside, not on and off. This is how his poor skills came to be.
