@Drake Marshall @Young Bard @Megasif @_Stick_ None of your lynches are going anywhere. I’d advise you to vote on either me or HH.

I would quite prefer if my lynch proposal did go somewhere, but if nothing comes of it, I do plan to support the HH lynch before the cycle's end.

Side note, I can now offer this game more attention.

Could you perhaps offer some more reasoning as to why you support my lynch over Straw's?

Gah, I thought that Straw had the ability to protect themselves from the lynch, for some reason. That changes my plan. :/

Honestly, I'm slightly more inclined to believe Straw, but I struggle to imagine a scenario in which either HH and Pyro or Straw and Mage are both lying. In the end, I think I'm going to vote based off of who I think will reveal more useful information for the village, and I think that's Straw. Straw's made quite a few bold statements, they were the only one to recommend Ruin destroying Braize before it happened, and they've generally attracted the attention of more of the players that I'm trying and struggling to read (Fifth, Mage, Rand, and HH themself), which means it's going to be more proactive to see their alignment.

Also, with the way the numbers are (with HH submitting votes as Autonomy), this is also the vote that is less likely to accidentally cause a tie, which would be bad for the village as the third non-lynch in a row.

EDIT: Monster Metroid - I meant to post that and I forgot.

I'm not so sure about dangerous. I still haven't been overwhelmed, surprisingly.

Are you planning to go for Autonomy's Shardic win condition? If not, do you have a plan for passing your Shard? @Seonid, could HH use his Shardic action for extra votes if he passed his Shard this turn?

52 minutes ago, Magestar said:

We should probably kill HH.  Is there any way either of them could survive the lynch?

Straw could potentially survive the lynch if he still has the charge of Preservation's Investiture he claims he took N0. He also said he burned it N1, so he shouldn't be able to survive.

48 minutes ago, Fifth Scholar said:

Why do we need to kill HH?

I'm also not sure why HH is getting lynched. He's almost certainly not Hoid or Khriss unless he's held off from converting. Unless Pyromancer is lying to save him, which seems highly unlikely, HH is Autonomy. He could be a N0 convert. Straw meanwhile, has had his actions confirmed by two separate people, so he's either Preservation or someone on a team with Preservation. Straw is more likely to be Hoid/Khriss, as his N0 action cannot be confirmed, though since nobody has claimed to have taken Investiture from Preservation it's likely that he's telling the truth.

I just lost half my post. Sigh. Unless Drake or YoungBard switches their vote in the next few minutes, the lynch will end in a tie. There's no longer enough time to switch to alternative candidates, and since Straw is slightly more likely to be evil than HH, I will vote for Straw

Last day turn I suspected Straw of being Ruin, but after Ruin refrained from destroying a second planet, and Straw claimed to be Preservation's vessel, I became less inclined to pursue that lynch. Ergo, while I'd rather lynch Jondesu than either of you two, I believe you are a better lynch than Straw.

Jondesu. HH.

Double posting because this is changing votes.

Currently HH has two more votes than Jondesu. If HH uses aspects to tip the balance, that will make a tie.

So... HH. Straw.

Not happy about this, but I'd be less happy with a third consecutive failed lynch.

Note: Both Straw and HH could be lying but Magestar and I could be telling the truth.  They could be Elims who happened to have gotten those Shards.  Them being a vessel does not make it more likely for them to be village.  Hoid and Khriss would be immune to conversion, and HH says he hasn't been converted yet.  Pretty suspicious...

Night Three - Unpreserved

“Yesterday, someone was murdered by Odium’s power,” Finn said. “His name was Steeldancer, and he was an associate of our university, before dying of a Shard-induced electric shock.”

Finn’s eyes roamed across the crowd, trying to see if the message had sunk in. Most of them just looked bored, as they had in the past few hearings.

“HAVE YOU NO SHAME?” he burst out. “A man died because you couldn’t keep your hands off of the Shards! We had rules in place to prevent this, which you happily flouted with no regards for the consequences.” His hands twitched on the podium top. “In the past few days, you have conspired to impede this investigation and prevent our university from determining who stole the Shards. Thus, you are all culpable in Steeldancer’s death, and shall be punished immediately.”

His voice rang throughout the auditorium. Some of his audience finally had the temerity to look guilty.

Finn continued on. “Know that I am not without mercy. I am aware of the seductive nature of the Shards, and of how such power can corrupt you until it wields you instead of the other way around -- that is why they have been locked up for the past century. If Odium’s holder steps up now to return it to containment, I will only punish them with expulsion from this school and blacklisting from all associated groups.”

“You have five minutes to declare your guilt,” he said.

The students looked at each other uneasily. Murmurs swept throughout the room, full of hushed whispers and frantic faces whipping between Finn and each other. Several times, students rose from their chair, only to be pulled down by their peers.

“Very well,” Finn said. “If you wish to protect a murderer in such a way, I have no choice but to punish you accordingly.” His face was hard. “I have a list of everyone who is a suspect in this investigation. When I call your name, you will be given a choice between an academic suspension for the rest of the semester or eight lashes of the cane. Anybody who tries to escape will have their sentence doubled.”

He looked at the list. “Chanari Agraval, please stand up.”

------------------------

“Ninera Choi, what is your choice?”

He mispronounced her name. At any other time, she would have been annoyed. But now, all Ninera could do was to slowly stand up and try to force her shoulders down. She bit her lip, desperately weighing her options. Oh nights, cane or suspension, cane or suspension, cane or suspension… Caning looked so painful, but a suspension would be on her record forever. Her parents would be so disappointed.

She hadn’t even done anything with the Shards.

“Miss Choi, what do you choose?”

“Uh -- storm it, cane,” she said quickly, before she would lose her courage.

“Come to the front,” the Deputy Vice Chancellor intoned.

Ninera moved out of her row, bumping past people’s knees and feet agonizingly slowly. She almost tripped over someone’s backpack and flushed. Nights, everyone was looking at her.

Better than a suspension, she told herself. A bead of sweat ran down her neck. Would it hurt? The thin, whippy rod didn’t look like much, but she’d heard the yelps. As she walked toward the stage, dread built in her, slowly coiling in her gut.

Ninera mounted the steps slowly, wanting both to get it over with and drag it out so it would never happen. The harsh auditorium lights singled her out, separating her from the crowd.

The Deputy VC’s eyes looked down on her coldly. Beside him stood a blank-faced aide, who held a long, thin rod about half her height.

“Hold out your hand,” the Deputy VC said.

Nights afire, she regretted her decision so so badly. But now that she’d made it, she couldn’t take it back. Ninera extended her right hand mutely and squeezed her eyes shut.

“One.”

It stung a little, but not that much. Not so bad yet, she thought. I can do this.

“Two.”

Storms! Ninera’s palm blazed with pain. Oh nights, now it hurt.

“Three.”

It was excruciating. Ninera bit back a yelp. It’s better than a suspension, she lectured herself fiercely. It has to be.

“Four.”

The pain spread up her right arm. Storm it, it hurt so bad. Ninera braced it with her left hand, praying to the Iridescent Tones.

“Five.”

She blinked back tears. Better than a suspension, she thought. She clung onto that thought desperately.

“Six.”

Nights afire, how many left? Ninera couldn’t think. Tears spilled down her face.

“Seven.”

Nothing could hurt this bad. Nothing. She should’ve chosen the suspension.

“Eight.”

Her whole right arm burned. She couldn’t take any more. She couldn’t. This wasn’t worth it. Her parents would’ve understood if she’d taken the suspension, right?

Ninera sniffled, and kept her palm out, waiting for the next hit. She didn’t dare stop holding up her right hand long enough to wipe her face or nose.

“Miss Choi, you are done. You may have some iodine.”

What? Oh. It was done now. She was done. Ninera blinked dumbly as the aide handed her a cotton swab.

“Sorry,” he mumbled.

“What the storms is wrong with you?” Ninera snapped. “If you’re so sorry, why are you doing this?”

His eyes dropped to the ground.

“Miss Choi, you may go,” the Deputy VC said.

----------------------

“Jiamo, what is your choice?”

“Um, I…” Jiamo cringed and looked around desperately. “I...I know who took the Shards, sir.”

Finn’s eyes narrowed. “Oh?”

Jiamo nodded. “Yeah. Yeah, I do. It’s, um, Straw. He took Odium. Please… please don’t hurt me. Sir.”

Darrel stood up. “Jiamo’s telling the truth! I saw it too.”

“Jiamo has to be Hoid or Khriss in disguise,” said Straw. “That’s the only reason why he’d falsely accuse me like that.”

Finn raised an eyebrow. “Preposterous. Hoid and Khriss disappeared over a century ago. Why would they come back now?”

“I don’t know,” Straw said. “But Hoid’s supposed to be crazy. Khriss too. Besides, I know I can’t have Odium. All I have is Preservation.”

Other students rose to their feet, adding to the accusation. Soon the auditorium was awash in voices arguing whether Jiamo or Straw was guilty, but in the clamor, it was impossible to hear any argument clearly.

Finn smiled. He should have done this much earlier. All it had taken was a simple threat and a few demonstrations for the students’ loyalty to each other to crumble.

“Straw, stand up. What do you have to say for yourself?”

Oh, he was going to enjoy this.

Straw (9): Devotary, Drake Marshall, Eternum, Fifth Scholar, Hemalurgic Headshot, Randuir, The Sand Lord, TheYoungPyromancer, Young Bard

Only one of Auto’s aspects voted on Straw, meaning HH probably worldhopped when he saw lynch pressure shifting at the end of the cycle. We can expect a new aspect to pop up soon, I think.

For what it’s worth, I’m sorry we lynched Straw, but I maintain he was a better target than HH, if only because there were more unknowns about him. And the Shard is not in Mage’s hands, if Straw Invested in someone else today, which I think is likely. If Preservation could claim, that would be great.

Now begins the pile-on to get Honor...

Why do you think so?

After failing to direct the lynch away from him, I would assume Straw Invested or passed his Shard to have more control over where it ended up.

I wonder if this could work. My first instinct is that you can't use actions when you get lynched, but you can activate extra lives, sooo....

@Seonid, where does the lynch come in the order of actions? Could straw have invested someone before dying?

Also, there are two people currently in the cognitive realm, and two shards capable of affecting the dead. I'd personally like to see steeldancer returned this cycle because his death puzzles me and he might be able to tell us why. I don't think steeldancer or straw held any investiture, so shade-ifying them would probably be pointless.

I'm neither going to confirm nor deny that, because I'd like people to overthink as much as possible when trying to target me.

So, to all of you who are worried I have shardic protection, and thus won't waste a kill on me;  I have shardic protection.  Don't waste a kill on me.

And, for all of you who would like to see me dead because I have a shard, no, I don't have a shard.  Don't waste a kill on me.

:P

Now that that's settled, I'll say that I don't think it's a bad idea to return someone.  In a game with limited conversions, it's not going to be worth it to convert a role like Returned.  So, I don't think it's a bad idea to keep returning villagers.

Well spoken. Actually, both of those statements could be true, if you had a way of knowing that a vessel would protect you.

When Ninera Choi went home that night, she found an Unsealed gold Metalmind on her porch.  The mistcloaked figure standing on the adjacent roof smiled.

Anyways, who wants to be immune to vote manip and to scans?

Hey guys I am sorry for my inactivity but due to some real life stuff that has come up I no longer have the time necessary to keep up with this game in a fashion that feels respectable. I know that the mods are currently looking for a pinch hitter. Sorry to everyone.

In the meantime though I will be on bare minimally (AKA I don't have time to do proper analysis on everything posted over the weekend) but I noticed that I did have a vote on me, so let me know if you have any questions for me in particular by tagging me in a post and I will try to get to them.

Pinch Hitter buddies for the Win!

Well, I am disappointed in the lynch, but i expect i would have been had HH been lynched as well.

I'm going to throw it out there that I am also going to try to get Honor. It would be nice If only 2 other people tried for it, so that i could maximise my chances. =P Actually, how many people are still in Silverlight?
