Voidus Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I was actually quite surprised (and after thinking a while I realised I shouldn't be) that 17thShard plays CAH. You see, when first coming to Shard you're suprised by how everyone is so nice to each other and so on. CAH is of dark, disturbing humour, so that didn't fit the picture. Then I realised that it doesn't necessarily contradict each other - we're just showing the nicer part of us here. The humor of a game like CAH comes from breaking tabboos, for those who are more polite those tabboos are stronger and so the game is filled with even more tension and humour. Those who cuss, swear and are openly discriminatory/offensive would probably get far less out of the game because it's just more of what they already do.
The Honor Spren she/her Posted April 10, 2016 Posted April 10, 2016 I have like two left hands but... making a mistcloak shouldn't be that complicated, right? Seems like a pretty easy one in the realm of cosplaying. It's pretty easy. I've made one. Word of advice, don't just take a gray cloak and cut it up. That's the slacker's way out. It's better if you sew the top of a cloak and then sew ribbons of colors ranging from light gray to black, like it describes it in the books. It gives you much more freedom in what you do and looks awesome. 4

I thought I could go for the hunt through discounts to find a grey cape/cloak or coat (depending on whether I would be doing First or Second Era) and cut it up in ribbons. Then sew additional layer or two of ribbons. That way I have something which definitely looks like clothing with added mistiness Freedom matters little to me, the easier the better. IIRC hood is optional, but what about sleeves? BTW, this is all just speculation - I have never in my life used a sewing machine. And I can't even imagine trying to ask my mother about it. Oh, she would probably help. But my family would tease me about that for the rest of my life XD Edited April 10, 2016 by Oversleep 1

Master Elodin Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I swear, I remember this exact conversation already happening.
Oversleep Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I swear, I remember this exact conversation already happening. A déjà vu is usually a glitch in the Matrix. It happens when they change something. 3
The Honor Spren she/her Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 IIRC hood is optional, but what about sleeves? That depends if you want era 1 or 2. Era 2 has sleeves.Do you have any suggestions for types of cloth/ribbons?I used black jersey, because that's what I had, but I wish I'd used something a little lighter. (Weight not color). For ribbons, I used a bunch of different kinds. I can't remember them all. But Joanne's has a good selection to choose from.
Young Bard he/him Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 I found out about a couple months ago, looking through an old photo album that my mother did a cosplay character for a film she went to see back in the 70's. As possibly the person least likely in the world to do cosplay, I was astounded. It seemed like one of those things she would consider 'silly' and 'nerdy' (and then she has a child who's addicted to ridiculously long epic fantasy series and plays Magic: The Gathering. Go figure.) Apparently, she also read LotR in her youth, as well, so I suppose I have to have some respect for whoever she was back then. Such a shame that she turned away from all that when she got older. I haven't done any cosplay yet, but I'd love to someday (which will probably be after I move out of home, tbh.) A mistborn seems like a good place to start, not too difficult, easily recognizable (for those who've read the books). Maybe from there, I can work up to something steampunky, because I've seen some awesome steampunk cosplay out there.
Kaymyth she/her Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 (edited) We played Cards Against Humanity when camping at the Words of Radiance release. Alyx's first time playing it. It was a ton of fun and we were far too loud for other people in tents. Josh did need to take out some cards for BYU, so that was a thing, but it was still a lot of fun. I believe that no deck is complete until you've taken one of the blank black cards and customized it to read: _______________, _______________. A Jedi craves not these things. I wonder, why not just play Apples to Apples? Because once you've played CaH, Apples to Apples is just too tame. Edited April 11, 2016 by Kaymyth 1

Usually when people do those they suck, but that one is really good. Apples to Apples is boring and less funny compared with the hilarity of CaH.

Apples to Apples is boring and less funny compared with the hilarity of CaH. It was created by the same friends who brought us the Gygaxian Grinder (where happened the epic gaming fail that started the True Story thread) and have a habit of going on road trips and coming back with a new game idea. Incidentally, these are the same friends who hooked me on Sanderson (and tempted me into my upcoming JordanCon adventure), so really, you have them to thank for my presence here.
+Slowswift Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 (edited) Oh, forgot to mention: To the person sitting a couple seats away from me at Abravanel Hall: Thank you for having a ginger afro, a spiffy bow tie, and a Klingon pin in your buttonhole. You made the night so much better. Edited April 11, 2016 by Slowswift 2
Zathoth Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 What have I done... So I guess this means that we need to play a round then. Would "Kaymyth momming so hard she becomes the Stormmother" be a funny white card if we made a Cards against the 17th shard deck? Oh wait i have just brought out the underlying darkness in everyone. Thats what I do. Everything is right in the universe so far then. Good. Carry on.

Even better, mixing the two of them together... 1
Zas678 he/him Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 It really is a TON of fun (speaking from experience), playing with the two combined decks. Even with taking out the more Adult cards.
Pinnacle-Ferring he/him Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 In a couple hours I'm getting on a flight to Canada to visit family and friends. So excited! 1
Kobold King he/him Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 HOLY FLIP WHAT IS THIS? This is why Jedi usually aren't allowed to compete. 9

Twi's first Epic power has manifested and it's the pasternator one. Tremble for soon she will make all of us al dente! 2
Voidus Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Such as? The ability to summon pugs and make them do that cute head-tilt thing? Thereby ridding the world of all evil.
Kaymyth she/her Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 The ability to summon pugs and make them do that cute head-tilt thing? Thereby ridding the world of all evil. Well, you know, Twi has faced a lot of fears lately. It could very well be that she's already freed herself of her Epic corruption. 1
Zathoth Posted April 11, 2016 Posted April 11, 2016 Such as? *Completely misses the point in making this funny* There is a character in Worm who can transform dogs into giant, tailed beasts. Maybe that is your power.
