Kaymyth she/her Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Am I the only one who doesn't know another Sharder in person? (To be fair, I have one Sanderfan friend and another who's read SA, but neither is on this site.) I doubt you're the only one. Though I only know ThirdGen because I'm the one that hooked him on Sanderson in the first place. Twi is sort of a special case; we haven't actually met in person. We just talk a lot on the Shard and moved on to phone because we're brain twins and all. Why do I not own Cards Against Humanity? More importantly, why do I not have a small horde of drunk friends over here playing it with me right now?
Kobold King he/him Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Does it count if the only Sharder I know in person is my mother? I think it counts. Meeting a Sharder who didn't give birth to me would be awesome, though.

Get some friends together, tell them to get their substance of choice, get in a skype call or something.
Delightful Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 The only Sharder I know IRL is someone I introduced to the shard so.....
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Am I the only one who doesn't know another Sharder in person? (To be fair, I have one Sanderfan friend and another who's read SA, but neither is on this site.) I've met other fans, and I once handed my camera to another sharder, but other than that, nope. I'd love to meet one of you blokes.
Kaymyth she/her Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 (edited) Guys, I need craft foam and contact cement. And....maybe weatherstripping? Or just some vinyl piping? And spray-on plastidip and gold spraypaint. EDIT: Probably go with fabric piping. Spray the plastidip on it, and it'll still be flexible, but paintable to look metal-ish. (I'm working on figuring out the materials needed to build my leg and shoulder armor on the Jean Grey costume.) Edited March 6, 2016 by Kaymyth

Kaymyth she/her Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Poor Brucie. Being alone all day left him nervous—he threw up while I was gone and didn't want to let me out of his sight. He's calmed down now, but I'm worried about leaving him alone tomorrow for church. He's just not used to being alone; he'll adjust. In fact, leaving him alone for shorter periods will actually help. He just needs to understand that you'll come back.

He just needs to understand that you'll come back. I won't be gone long at all tomorrow—just a few hours. And I've been leaving music on for him (I actually bought a CD player for my apartment, so I can just stick a CD on repeat for him) along with some toys and things.
Delightful Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Kaymyth, are you likely to post Swift as Steel online once it's done? I'd really like to read it.
Kaymyth she/her Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Kaymyth, are you likely to post Swift as Steel online once it's done? I'd really like to read it. Yeah, it's gonna go up in Creator's Corner. It shouldn't be much longer; I'm just in perfectionist mode with this final draft. I'm nervous about it being anything less than flawless. 1
Mistrunner Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 I love you all. We have differing opinions on everything from politics to religion to raspberries, and yet no one is vicious or a bad sport or rude. There's about a forty year age range, but no one is dismissive of others because they're "too old" or "too young" to understand. You give out advice on adulting and homework help and hugs. You're all amazing human beings. Just wanted to say that. Carry on with your regularly scheduled programming. 9

Young Bard he/him Posted March 6, 2016 Author Posted March 6, 2016 Just had a look at the Irish Election results. I... don't know what to say. This will be interesting. *gets out the popcorn* So, long story short, we have a bunch of parties, none of whom have enough seats to win. They all hate each other, and yet somebody's going to have to side with somebody else. The two biggest parties are politically close together and have enough votes between them to win, but they've been more or less arch-enemy's this entire race, so that seems... somewhat unlikely. Or, one of the parties can try siding with 2 or three of the minor parties, who they (generally speaking) are further away from politically than aforementioned arch-nemesis. It's all very interesting. If you're confused, the Irish Times got a little app thing here which is handy.

Then again, that's largely because -I'm in the North, so Republic elections aren't as big a deal, and -All my mental energy is too worried over other elections to think about these ones. Also, I know no other real life Sharders. I mentioned Brandon's output to a guy at work though, and he concluded that he has to be a robot to write so much.

AFAIK they never end up with one clear party majority and end up forming coalitions with the parties who are ideologically close and/or will agree to work together and share power. I have yet to see a political system that actually works totally fairly and makes sense.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 That sounds a little like the Israeli system actually. AFAIK they never end up with one clear party majority and end up forming coalitions with the parties who are ideologically close and/or will agree to work together and share power. I have yet to see a political system that actually works totally fairly and makes sense. I think that's more sensible in some ways than the American system, actually. Not perfect, but better than the way we have two massive parties that wind up being ideological opposites in nearly every sense of the term. Republicans are against abortion; Democrats are for it. Democrats don't support big business; Republicans always do. While some candidates bill themselves as more "moderate," they're only going to be moderate compared to others within their party; people in the other party will almost certainly see them as more extreme. The American system really doesn't leave room for anyone in the middle, and we have about zero hope of electing a third-party candidate because the other two parties are so huge and they've rigged the game to the point that it's nearly impossible for a third party to get any attention. Not to mention the fact that both parties are so polarized it's like a gang war. 2

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Well, I have an update on Bruno and Mollie, for anyone who's interested. My parents and siblings have been staying in what's supposed to be a vacation cabin while they're waiting on the house here in Tucson to sell. It's small, and there's not a ton of furniture, which means Mollie doesn't get to perch on the backs of sofas (as she likes). Mollie loves the Northwest, with its trees and grass and interesting smells, but she hates the house. My mom took her to Petsmart yesterday, and when they returned, Mollie refused to go in the house. Bruno, on the other hand, has been on cloud nine ever since they arrived. He lived in the Northwest for most of his life, and he couldn't be happier to be back. 1
Curious Anamaximder he/him Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Storms. It would be so nice to meet another Sharder. You guys are so nice and thoughtful, it would be awesome. No meeting Sharders for me.
Jo and the Bush all/any Posted March 6, 2016 Posted March 6, 2016 Have any of you ever wondered if we have met another Sharder, but just didn't realize? How would we know? 1
