Brandon was here last year for ConQuest, and I actually asked him whether he'd be at WorldCon.  He said yes, he always goes when it's in the U.S., and sometimes when it's elsewhere.  So it's reasonable to expect that he'll be here.  (I intend to get more books signed.)

Wait, I can see that Edgedancer quoted you as wanting to ask me about sewing machines, but I can't find the original post to quote!  Anyway.  Yes, I sew things.

Oh, that was from the Billboard, I just didn't want to derail that topic even further.

Meanwhile my mom wants me to get out, but once I am out she texts me every ten minutes...

So apparently I look like a hot murderer according to my internet friends. Out of all strange compliments...

 yep, my parents too.

I've already decided that if the race winds up being Trump vs Sanders, I'm voting Sanders. He's not my choice of candidate at all, but he doesn't strike me as the sort of man who would start a nuclear war because a visiting dignitary didn't like his tie. -_-

No, I haven't told my mother.

true that. The only two I don't want for sure is Trump or Hillary. I hate Trump with my heart and soul and Hillary is just... I just don't like her. I don't hate her so if its between her and Trump I'd go for her, but she just rubs me the wrong way.

Also she tries to get the young vote but really just makes herself look stupid.

Ahh, OK, that makes a lot more sense in context now.  And now I realize that Twi probably wasn't really looking for me for sewing tips.   Pardon me, I'll see myself out...

someday I'll figure out how you people manage to quote across threads like that

Use the multiquote button and then just go to the topic where you actually want to quote it.

Ooooh!  I had tried that once, and saw that it disappeared when I clicked away from the thread.  I didn't realize that it came back as soon as you were in a spot where you could create a reply again!

Huh.  This here forum be smartlike.

Your mother is voting for Trump? :o

Dear G-D save us all if he ever wins.

She despises Trump, but might die if she had to vote for a Democrat. So neither of us know who she's voting for at this point, but she's really hoping it isn't a Trump vs Sanders race.

She might just write in a candidate.

At the moment, it looks like Cruz will win the Iowa primary (which means nothing. The past two winners were Rick Santorum and Mike Hukkabee, and we saw how that worked out for them). We really won't get an idea of who's the actual strong candidate until a few primaries are under our belt. History seems to indicate it will not be Trump or Cruz, though (since poll numbers don't seem to be an accurate reflection of actual voting patterns... which is funny that campaigns have to rely so much on them!)

Our biggest problem, really, is being so entrenched in the two-party system.  Unfortunately, changing it would require changing the way our elections work, and the people with the power to do that are the people who are most thoroughly invested in the system remaining the way it is.  To that end, it's been in their best interests to make sure the country remains thoroughly polarized, because if conservatives and liberals can be kept distracted by hating on each other all the time, there's not enough energy left over to focus on the real problems with our governmental system.

You are lucky. When people coment on how I look, generaly the only word they use is "scary". I, who feel bad if I acvidentaly hurt an ant, look like I could kill someone in a fit of rage 0_o.

On parents:

Truth to be told, I don't have it that bad, since the second best university in Brazil is a few miles from home and I have a good chance of making throught the selection process. But I really wanted to start living on my own.

On the political talk:

What is the deal with Sanders? Only things I know about him are that he is an old man and a socialist. Doens't seem that bad.

And this is why my family doesn't vote at all. The game is rigged and the rules are written by liars and cheaters. We have no interest in playing.

I thought I wouldn't vote in this next election....and then it looked like Trump had a serious chance of winning.

I actually like him; I plan on voting for him in the primaries.  But my political leanings are pretty left, which should surprise nobody.  <_<

Plus, he's one of the few players in the game who has been pretty consistent over the years about resisting being bought by the corporations.  The Citizens United decision was the worst thing to happen to the US governmental system in a long, long time.

Unfortunately, even choosing not to play has an impact.  It actually benefits the political establishment to disenfranchise people who have an interest in changing the system.

I keep waiting for that moment when everyone day's "No, but seriously, who is going to be president?".

I will be horrified if South Park predicted the future on this one.

...And, on a lighter topic...

Anyone seen the new Suicide Squad trailer?

Can we have Matt and Trey as the presidents? I guess one of them has to be the first lady, but anyway.

Or you know...

We are screwed anyway.

He's also Jewish which is all I know about him. And there was a video clip floating round Facebook of him telling off someone who made a negative comment about gay people in the army.

A Facebook friend of mine suggested a confusing scenario, which regular democracies would be used to, but American yes/no this/that voting would freak out about:

Trump is currently leading the polls among Republican voters.  But the Republican party picks its nominee independently of the winner of the primaries.  They might, and much of the Republican higher-ups have threatened to, nominate someone else even if Trump wins it.  Trump would then launch an independent candidacy and split the R-vote significantly.

Former New York City Mayor Bloomberg is also planning to make an independent run, which would split a chunk of the D-vote from New York.

You could end up with X Republican Winner vs. Berlary Clinders vs. Trump vs. Bloomberg.  The media wouldn't even be able to say whether Bloomberg is somebody people are supposed to take seriously or not with authority, so no one would have any clue what's going to happen next.

Ah, the presidential elections.

My thoughts:

• I'm with Lark on Hillary, she just rubs me the wrong way

• Can't stand Sanders' policies

• Trump is. No.

• Best choice: Cruz? Maybe?

Best case scenario: we dump all current hopefuls into the ocean (not too far out, just a couple feet deep; some of these people are elderly and I'm not a monster) and elect Romney. :P

Can we agree Trump is worst case scenario though?

For international relations and immigration? Yes. Some of the stuff he's proposing is just blatantly unconstitutional.
