DODO! I CHOOSE YOU!

Draco leaped to his feet. "What in the name of—"

The bird skirted around another table, knocking over a chair. A man yelped and jumped for higher ground.

"NARK NARK NARK NARK NARK!" said the bird.

"I'll call the police," Melody said, dashing for the phone.

"For a bird?"

"You see what it's doing!"

"NARK NARK NARK!"

This has all the makings of the greatest AU ever written.:lol:

Bernard.

Okay, I will use this name for a sailor since I already found a name for the butler.

Anyone else can't write without thinking about the right name and just can't use placeholders?

Yes! I hate naming characters. Why is it so hard???

I'm not sure if this is why everyone has trouble, but I think it's because when you name a character, it signifies that they are done. You know who they are and what purpose they play in the world you have created, and if you haven't done that, you can't name them.

Azathoth is my cousin, by the way, if anyone wonders why our names are so similar.

I cant figure out any good names either, I have set Riem as the name of one of my main characters, there is a character by that name who is mentioned like once in The Name Of The Wind, but his name is Riem, and thats that.

Yeah... In many first drafts of various novels that I've begun, it's fairly frequent for me to do something like this:

X picked up the orb of A, rushing to the door. Sliding under it, he pulled out I, slashing the rope from the gate, sending it clashing down after him. Y stopped, a look of disgust on his face. "You scoundrel."

X looked at him, a dangerous glint in his eye. "You always said you didn't mean to trust me." Grabbing the Orb of A, he lobbed it into the air, slowly walking away.

(Sorry, I know it's cliche. I made it up on the spot to demonstrate my point.)

This is actually a pretty good idea, I use the name Terrana for another main character, I dont like it so it is just a place holder XD

But you know what happens with place holder names

I don't know, I hate using placeholders.

Also, what are your feelings about four-sylabe names? Too long to go with no nickname?

I think 3 syllable names are too long without nicknames, so yes, four syllable names are too long.

Fun fact: the book, Fantastic Beasts and Where to Find Them, lists Dodos as a bird that is not extinct, but has the ability to teleport when it feels it is in danger. This lead to the muggles thinking it was extinct and made them set up some laws to make sure it never happens again.

The wizarding community feels no need to enlighten them about the situation.

My name is also three syllables, I do not like the common nickname for my name, so until someone who is creative enough to figure out a better nickname they are stuck with my official one.

Why do you think I picked it?

And you still think three syllabes are to long a name for the reader to remember?

Well Im not the one who has to remember it, am I?

...I'm really kicking myself for not getting that now. I've read that book at least a hundred times by now.

I just became convinced that Newt Scamander never visited Arizona. Otherwise, we'd see chupacabras listed with a 4- or 5-star danger rating, and skinwalkers listed with ten danger stars, a handwritten warning, and a terrified emoji. :P

It's my headcanon that the copy of the book that was released was heavily abridged so as not to alarm Muggles.

At least it's not Hagrid's copy. Otherwise, everything less than four stars would be corrected to a "boring" rating. <_<

Now, that's not fair. Hippogriffs are just a XXX and he likes them just fine. He's more likely to cross out the classification key and write in his own explanation about how the number of X's tells you how much potential fun the creature is. :P
