Dankworth he/him Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 you use "stormfather," "lord ruler," and "dolokin" as curses "Don't use his name as an oath, Vin. Even blasphemy honors him--when you curse by that creature's name, you acknowledge him as you god."--Kelsier (Mistborn: The Final Empire p.103) I am shamed to admit that I also frequently violate this holy commandment of the Survivor. (Although, technically Rashek was a god,or close enough to one as made no practical difference, but only for a few minutes.) "Dolokin!" is probably the one I use the most, usually in the form "Dolokin, sule! You're kayana!" when one of my friends being idiotic. (If you say it fast enough, they can't separate the words, hear something like "Dulokenzul ukiana!" and think you can swear in Swahili or something. 4
Dankworth he/him Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 (edited) When you're assigned a paper on greek culture, and the influence their gods had on their culture, and your first thought is that you need to re-read Warbreaker. ... and you're heartbroken that you can't use it as a reference text. When you really do use not one but three Sanderson books as reference texts for an English paper. (Just turned it in a couple hours ago.) Update: I got a perfect 200 points on that paper, and the professor asked if she could show it to some other teachers! Edited March 11, 2015 by Dankworth 4
mail-mi he/him Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 you use "stormfather," "lord ruler," and "dolokin" as curses When you start using them as curses because your church leader advised against using substitution words that start with F. 8
Redbird he/him Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 Actually, the best in book curse word is You, as used by Lightsong. 6
Silverblade5 he/him Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 When you expect WoK to set a new standard in novel length, then become dissapointed when, four years later, most aren't even half as long 1
PrncRny he/him Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 When you are sorely disappointed with just about anything else in the fantasy genre because of simplistic magic systems, generic archetypical heroes, and plothole-ridden stories. Jordan, then Sanderson, have ruined me for much of the genre. And I couldn't be happier about it. (I was going to quote a similar thing as this posted earlier,b ut i couldn't find it. I simply wanted to say "THIS!" lol) 2

sanderfan she/her Posted December 2, 2014 Posted December 2, 2014 When you and your friends spend all of lunch talking about Brandon Sanderson because they finally finished Mistborn. Now they're racing to see who can read all of the cosmere books first. It's the greatest. 4

TheArcanist he/him Posted December 3, 2014 Posted December 3, 2014 Wow, okay, I want to have Serendipity's writing skills. I can write a lot of things- Norse runes, Ogham, the Theban Alphabet, Malachim, Enochian, Daedric, Dovahzul, Falmeric, several variations of an elvish language I made up, and an orcish language I created; but none of them have been as pretty as that Alethi. Well done; I tip my proverbial hat to you. 6

And the way the characters are organized by sound makes it relatively easy to learn. The characters are certainly a simpler to draw than Daedric. Also, I can only read Alethi 20x slower than I can write it. 1

Well done; I tip my proverbial hat to you. Best, Reply, Ever. I can write in the Steel Alphabet, and even have a Font for it, But I can't read Alethi. I've also been attempting to develop a Nalthian Language. (It isn't Working) 1
Oudeis he/him Posted December 4, 2014 Posted December 4, 2014 A question for people writing in Alethi and making fonts... do we know what the diacritical mark is you add to a symmetrical letter to indicate it should be pronounced as an h? 1

Also, I can only read Alethi 20x slower than I can write it. That's the Alethi script, not the Alethi language. If you want the Alethi language, you'll have to wait until the glyphs get fully translated. 2

Zas678 he/him Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 EVen though you have to be pratically a Senior to get that class (though you probably could just show up.... And the Dragonsteel book has a mile's worth of waitlist. But sometimes it's possible to get it through interlibrary-loan. 2
Quiver he/him Posted December 5, 2014 Posted December 5, 2014 You're a Sanderfan when you volunteer to test out the soulstamp because, yeah, the idea of stamping souls is kind of creepy, but ACTUAL COSMERE MAGIC IN REAL LIFE is awesome enough to risk it. ...It can also be risked by downing vials of metal. Thus far, I have determined I am either an Allomantic Gnat, or unsnapped. 5

Also have you put on any metal jewelry to make sure you aren't a ferring? 3
