Did Someone Say Kill Evil? Posted April 7, 2017 Posted April 7, 2017 On 14/05/2015 at 11:29 AM, Titan Arum said: I pronounce it "Seth" since in Hungarian when you have an "Sz", it makes a simple "S" sound. Granted, I was mispronouncing every name in Mistborn because I never realized they were supposed to sound French. I read "Vin", now know it's supposed to sound like "Vahn", but still say "Vinn". Meh. Head-canon. Stannis, in all his grammar nazi ways, would simply shake his head and say: I've heard Sanderson say it, he says vinn

However, there's a WoB where he admits that it's pronounced "Vahn" and that he always says it incorrectly because he uses an American English accent instead of a French accent.

Meannadarie Posted April 8, 2017 Posted April 8, 2017 Ha ha ha! I love this. Honestly, does it matter how it's pronounced? I had a hard time not going cross eyed when listening to the Elantris short stories, read by a different narrator than the actual novel. I think they only said one name the same. Ultimately though, the story is still great no matter how you say the names. Amiright?

It is just amusing sometimes how everyone can't pronounce most of the names right to save their lives. Or don't even know how it would be. Like Shallan. I know almost 4 different ways people have pronounced it, and it surprises me. It seemed simple to me when I first read the book, but I guess even the most simple-seeming names can be complex 1

He wants everyone to just use the names the way they sound right to that person, even if he had a "correct" pronunciation in mind. 1

Farnsworth Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 The Dark Alley is our club for people who think they are creepy and have disturbed ideas. There is an ongoing joke about giving people hemalurgicly spiked cookies. You can find the actual thread in the "clubs and guilds" section. The Oregoners are people who are members of the free form role playing group that takes place in the world of Rithmatist. They are called Oregoners because the games all take place in Rithmatist Oregon. You can find the threads in a sub-forum of role play. 1

I was in it for a while (my leaving was not due to lack of enjoyment, more lack of any sort of preparation), so I'd know. And I think technically I'm part of DA, as well. Dunno what happened with that. 1

I've experienced the Dark Alley's cookies in cases before and investigated them, but I still wasn't sure what their motives were. Oregoners... I had no idea at all. All I knew was that it was being made fun of. So thanks for explaining. 3

How dare you corrupt a (relative) newcomer with such tainted misguided ideas. For one, the Dark Alley does not think itself creepy, as with of our hemalurgic testing and constructs baking, we should be downright horrifying. And the Oregoners are more properly a group of people who do some Reckoners (not Rithmatist) RP. People wanted to do a Reckoner's RP, and since according to what is in the books, it ends up being pretty much obliterated. Since nobody wanted to have to bring in things from the book, any more than the fact that there are epics and its set in that universe, they chose Oregon as the place for the RP, as it all will get destroyed anyways. More precisely, they have several cities/towns each with their own thread in which most of the actual RP occurs. People just write up a lot of stuff in there, using both regular people and Epics. ... EDIT: Just realized as I had posted that there was another page with post already on it about this... Welp I got double ninja-ed... Anyways @Firerust the Terris Gyorn There are plenty of places that can tell you more about this if need be. Edited April 9, 2017 by Secrets 2
Farnsworth Posted April 9, 2017 Posted April 9, 2017 Hey, I'm a Cosmere purist. I don't read any of the non-Cosmere works, and those books aren't even as good as Cosmere. 2

While I agree that the non-cosmere stuff is not quite as good, they are definitely worth a read (especially the reckoners). I mean, its Sanderson, everything he writes is worth a read. 2

Guild war? The Assassins in Technicolor Clothes are sworn against guild wars. To declare war is to break ancient oaths of the forum that existed before the invention of the computers! 1

You should have seen the war between the Newcago Court and the Lords of Chaos a few years ago. Sigh...young uns these days. Don't know their history. Basically, before the Reconers RP thread, the guilds were our roleplaying section. In the glory days of that era we had a lot of fun writing really really long posts about our war and sidequests. Nowadays most of the guilds are fairly abandoned, very quiet, and just not very interesting. This was all back when Swimmingly was the top Repped member aside from Brandon and Peter and Kobold King was a newcomer.
