Jo and the Bush all/any Posted January 16 Posted January 16 (edited) AFTERMATH <Callsign: Fuchsia Ostrich> Fuchsia Pulled. The Medallion wasn't giving her iron, but she refused to let Jochen die. The Medallion vibrated, it became uncomfortably warm against her skin, and she burned Iron. The bullet slowed, then started back to her. Something instinctual stopped Pulling and instead Pushed it just enough to make it stop in its tracks. Capone turned to her, eyes flitting between the bullet and her. “Impressive. You care about him so much? That could be—” <Callsign: Azure Mouse> In a moment, the door was pulled open, the gun fired, but Jochen didn't die. The man on the other side lowered his gun, looking at something that Jochen couldn't see. Jochen didn't have time to consider that he had been expecting Fuchsia. This man had just tried to shoot him. The man was saying something, but not to Jochen. He didn't listen, he just launched himself from the tunnel and hit the man mid sentence. The man dropped the gun and stepped back, so Jochen lunged to grab it. He came up pointing it at the man, but he paused before firing. The man was laughing. <Callsign: Error—Subject's records have been purged from the system> Tin Capone was cut off by Jochen’s fist hitting his face. He stepped back, putting his hand to his jaw. His attacker, the Mouse, was pointing the gun at him. Al couldn't help but laugh. “Brave little rodent, aren't you? You remind me of someone I knew a long time ago.” “Who are you? Where's Razer?” Jochen questioned. “I'm right here, Jochen. Put the gun down,” Fuchsia responded, without so much as a glance at Capone. He hid his scowl. The woman was still a loose cannon, no matter how useful she was to his future plans. Jochen didn't lower the gun. He swiveled to point it at Fuchsia. “Why? Why betray the ship?” Al just watched. It would be useful, seeing how Fychsia reacted. “I didn't. You have to believe me, Jochen,” Fuchsia pleaded. “You've been working with the saboteurs. Don't try to deny it. He's proof,” Jochen said, gesturing toward Al. Al smirked. How little he knew. Still, impressive considering how little information he had. “I didn't. They were going to kill me. It was join him or die. Put the gun down, Jochen.” “Don't lie to—” Al's communicator pinged. He looked at the screen, but the movement spooked Jochen, who pointed the gun back at Al. “We're out of time. She's telling the truth, but neither of you know the whole story. The saboteurs were a means to an end, and they accomplished their goal—” “How? They were all captured last I checked,” Jochen interrupted Al. “Interrupt me again, and it will be your last. I told you, I don't care about this ship. I care about her,” Al pointed to Fuchsia. “And now, I care about you. You've impressed me. And I have an offer.” “What offer? I'm no traitor.” Al shook his head. “You wouldn't betray your ship. I'd see to it that all the papers were in order for your immediate transfer to a special unit.” “What for?” Jochen asked, but more gently this time. “My name is Tin Capone,” Jochen’s eyes widened, “and I see you know my name. Then you know of the Metal Mafia. The Scadrian government didn't arrest us all like they claim. We just kind of… joined forces.” “So what's the job?” Jochen asked, and Al knew he was sold. “I'm putting together a team. Razer is going to be the leader. You, I think, would make an excellent spy.” “I,” Jochen looked at Fuchsia. “I'm in.” Tin Capone smiled. He offered his hand while activating the Transportation fabric with his other. The device began to hum. Soon, the entire room would be Transported to the cognitive realm. “Welcome to the Mobborn.” @The Unknown Medallion's Thoughts: So, uh, yeah, I think we all know what happened. Three elims deaths in a row, and the only successful Elim kill was on an elim. That would definitely wreck any distro, though I'll admit there were several problems with this one. The two biggest were the extra Lurcher and the potential v!k!Seeker. The lurcher, there wasn't much we could do about. Mistakes happen, and I don't blame Jo in the slightest. We probably shouldn’t have even had the four we were planning on though, and that was an error. We overestimated the thread control/the plays the elims would make. In hindsight, the e!Seeker would have benefited more from a permanent Tineye than the village would have. Then there's the village stealing a Seeker. Frankly, we just didn't think of it. In my head, the Kandra were failsafes against swingyness, and if I was running this again, I'd make villagers only able to steal villager roles, but always give them priority when competing against elims. Elim deaths are already punishing enough without the village getting an extra role. Some things did work how I expected though, it just was too late. I was banking on the village realizing 2 CSs was insane, especially with Lurchers and MB in high quantities (both of which should have seemed to be much more elimmy roles than Seekers). It very nearly saved the elims twice, but the Rollover Crew was just too strong. I mentioned in the Finale that we should have leaned into the bit more. My initial idea was all e!Seekers vs a CS and Smoker, which I dubbed reverse mafia. I will never run this game in the future, so feel free to completely forget that I ever mentioned this distro idea. I think that's about it. I'm sure Jo will be around soon with his own thoughts, so watch out for those. @A Jo in the Bush's Thoughts: Spoiler Changes made to this game. The very first change that TUM and I did was allow people to talk in the Sign-Ups thread. We didn’t allow people to say whether or not they were signing up, but I do think that allowing conversation made for a funner sign-up. It’s always a little bit boring when you’re signed up for a game but have no way to interact with it. I think this was a good change. The mechanical change we did was adding the Kandra role to the game. A small change (huge) that wouldn’t change balance too much. I just personally find it boring to be a Vanilla/Thug role, and prefer having anything to do. A Kandra role seemed like a good fit to replace most of the Vanillas. It wouldn’t do much most of the game, but could eventually give the player something. We didn’t really see that this game. One Kandra used their ability as soon as it was possible, due to the role up for grabs, one Kandra died, and the third spent the whole game slandering the GM’s, and then the game ended as he tried to use his ability. I don’t think Kandra were balanced, nor do I think they were thought through enough. I actually think this distribution would have been a lot more balanced if we replaced all the Kandra with Vanillas. As often is the case, I let balance fall by the wayside in favor of chaos. I really need to get better at that. Mechanically, I don’t think I would actually change anything about Kandra. They work exactly as they are meant to, a way for a player to gain power later on, a choice for the player to make, and a way for a team to pick up lost powers. It might be more balanced if Kandra could only devour their teammates? That basically gives an extra life to a role, instead of to a player. I don’t know how the flavor of that would work, but Kandra eating corpses to gain allomancy is already a Flavor Fail. The last Mechanical changes we made were role-tweaks in order to make spreadsheet automation easier. Smokers were now a single turn action, instead of a Cycle, and Rioter’s votes were canceled even when they failed to change a vote. Neither role was actually used in the game. So. . . That was pointless I guess? Distribution I’m not certain exactly how I expected this game to go. I wanted the Spiked to have a huge Information/Manipulation advantage, but the Village to have a Power advantage. The Elims had the manpower to learn the entire distribution of the game by the start of Day 4, and use that disparity to manipulate who knew what. They would be able to make false ‘Village Circles’ utilizing their scans, and could have gone for riskier plays involving two ‘Village Seekers’ in a PM group, or gone for safer plays where they pretend there’s only 1 Village seeker. The Spiked would have to lay low for the first bit of the game while they gather information, and then gain more and more influence as the game progresses. The village has the power to slow down their kills, until the lurchers are getting controlled by the Spiked Seekers. Once the Village realizes something is wrong though (Where are all the Smokers? Why have none of the Seekers found a Spiked?) They still have the ability to play catch-up. They can start coinshotting the Spiked Seekers, (or all of the Seekers in a paranoia frenzy), and try to get control of the thread back. I made a few mistakes in this. Number one: I gave the Village too many Lurchers. I’m using “I” here instead of “We” because while TUM and I did come up with the Distribution, I was the one responsible for randomizing who got what role, and I accidentally gave the village 5 Lurchers instead of 4. (Probably should have been 3 anyway.) As you can see from the Master Spreadsheet, the Village only has 4 though. This is because Pearl Chameleon was one of them, and they went inactive. When we Subbed in a Pinch Hitter, we changed their role to Lurcher. I don’t know which of the Lurchers were supposed to be the single Village Smoker, but meh. The Village probably wouldn’t have used their Smoker until too late. I didn’t really want there to be that many smokers, since we were fresh out of the “Oops, All Smokers” game. Number two: We didn’t give the Saboteurs enough Day roles. 60% of their team had an ability that could only be used at Night. This became a problem quickly. I did not expect it to become a problem so quickly. How did you guys execute 3 eliminators in a row. What the heck. I think this could have been more easily solved simply by not having the Saboteur kill be a player action. There’s not actually a reason for it to be that I can see. Let the Saboteurs do their role, and let an NPC kill on their behalf. Number three: I was most worried about the Spiked Kandra getting a Village Power role really quickly, so we decided to make the Spiked Kandra be the ‘youngest’ with the lowest priority. That was probably a mistake, but I’m honestly not sure, because I would have stood by it if you all had executed a Coinshot on day 1. The Spiked getting a Coinshot night 1 would have been very bad for the rest of the game. It could have even resulted in the game ending on Night 3 with a spiked victory! Can you imagine a long game ending that quickly? What horror! (I’m really not sure if this was a mistake or not). I think if I were to do it again, I would alternate it. Village, spiked, Village. That way the Village still has more Kandra, but the Spiked don’t have to try to beat two villagers. General Thoughts I had rollover be in the morning, which is apparently when y’all are the most active, and I didn’t include any anti-hammering regulations. I should have included the vote extension rules. The Elims could have saved themself on Day 1 if they had had the time to understand what was changing so fast. But Docodile couldn’t get an order in to riot fast enough, which only would have given them a 50% coinflip, but that’s better than an execution. I really don’t like how often these executions were finalized in the last 10 minutes of the turn. The point of the game being 48 hours is for everyone to have a chance to respond. I might experiment with some sort of secret voting method. Maybe players vote in their GM PM, and the GM posts the Vote count every 12 hours? I do kind of like the idea of a day turn that only ends once a single player has received a majority of votes, but I don’t know how that would play out. I might experiment with that as well. I also really liked the fresh new setting! While I do enjoy the rustic village of Tyrian Falls, the fact that we had literally just been there in the previous game made me not want to do it. Era 4 seemed like a fun twist on the setting. What did y’all think about the setting? In general, I think I am very pleased with this game. It was a lot shorter than I expected, but I enjoyed it, and the village reactions were amazing. My thoughts if I run the Next AG Option A: 1 Village Coinshot, 1 Village Lurcher, 13 Village Kandra, vs. 5 Spiked Seekers. Option B: Village has 12 players, including 1 of each Misting, and the Elims have 8 Vanilla players. Option I am forcibly prevented from GM’ing. It was fun being in the same alignment this time and bouncing off ideas heh @Mistfallen Soldier I figured you were playing, but couldn't identify who because no one seemed to fit the impression I had when we played. Although I didn't think they played a huge role, I think I would have made it a no-PM game if you were balancing around elim enlightenment being an advantage. And make Seekers scan a player's last action, not their alignment. I've tried anti-hammering tech before (secret random rollover times), but SE ultimately always rewards try harding and availability. That's why it's a young man's game. I think your ML traps were ineffective against a player base that's not steeped in the same meta. The two coinshots agreeing to coexist still boggles my mind. Speaking of new folks, turns out I could have played with my personal account and still been anonymous. Welcome everyone, you're a fun group to play with.
