QFs usually don't have distinct day and night phases.

Just one phase for everything that runs for 24 hours.

I see, so I guess that means actions are processed instantaneously (as long as the host is online and available) or is the “night” part still being simulated and they’re all processed at the end of the cycle?

The latter; the NK and other role actions will be submitted during the cycle and resolved once voting is closed but before the next cycle gets posted. We generally don't have abilities that resolve immediately (except PM creation perhaps) because that makes things harder for folks in different time zones from the GM.

1. What is a dead drop message?

It's anonymous mail you send to other players via the GM.

So, for example, you might message me "send 'hello' to Booknewt and Doc12." Then at the beginning of the next day, I would tell both Booknewt and Doc12 seperately that they got an unsigned message saying "hello." ("Hello" is just a short example message, but there's absolutely no limit on message length :))

2. Are the minor roles exclusive to the ISB or can the Rebels also randomly be assigned to any of those roles?

Rebels can have them too.

I haven't finalized anything, but the odds are decent that everyone who doesn't have a major role will get a minor one.

In terms of setting and story, every player officially works for the ISB, it's just that some members of the ISB are sympathetic to the rebellion and are working from within to sabotage it [the ISB].

3. Does the double vote effect of the Analysis ability reflect on vote counts or is it hidden?

It will be hidden from the vote counts.

This does mean that if I announce the execution victim and it's different from who got the most votes, then the Analysis ability definitely meddled. or I made a blunder as the GM but hopefully that won't happen

Good questions!

Ive thought about this for a while and playing this will be better for my mental health than just doom scrolling and waiting for job interviews xD. I think I can do a QF game... though im really out of practice so we'll see how this goes lol.

I'll join as Kimrick Hammyr

Edit:

Ok rules questions:

1. When friendly fire faction kills are rerolled, is the person who was picked previously taken out of getting picked or could they get picked twice and still die?

2. For the rebel spymaster, can you designate someone not part of the doc as the successor? If so and the role gets passed on, is that player automatically added to the doc?

3. The item created by the tech, does it last until used or does it need to be used the following turn?

4. Does designating a successor count as an action for the surveillance role?

5. If a player had an item via the tech role being used on them, and then they were passed a key role, would they lose the item or keep it? If they do keep it, can they only use one action or the other or can they do both on a given turn?

gosh Fura!! It's good to see you

rules answers:

1. y'know the rules don't say, but I'm gonna decide right here and now that they are taken out of getting picked during the reroll, thank you for asking that

2. you may indeed designate someone not in the doc as a successor, it's just more risky. They will be automatically added to the doc when they become Spymaster yeah, the doc is basically an extension of the Spymaster role.

3. I should make that clearer. I think they have to lock in which ability they want the following turn, but then they don't have to spend it right away, it lasts until used.

4. Naming a successor doesn't count as an action. I'll also say that neither does sending an anonymous message. (Submitting a kill target does count as an attempted action, though, regardless of whether your target is the one that gets picked.)

5. I suppose a major role can be targeted by Tech, and can therefore possess items, so to be consistent, they get to keep the item in this case. Also, this game does not have any overarching action limit: if you have multiple different abilities, you can use all of them at the same time.

These are very good questions :P

REMEMBER THIS, FREEDOM IS A PURE IDEA. IT OCCURS SPONTANEOUSLY AND WITHOUT INSTRUCTION. RANDOM ACTS OF INSURRECTION ARE OCCURRING CONSTANTLY THROUGHOUT THE GALAXY. THERE ARE WHOLE ARMIES, BATTALIONS THAT HAVE NO IDEA THAT THEY'VE ALREADY ENLISTED IN THE CAUSE.

REMEMBER THAT THE FRONTIER OF THE REBELLION IS EVERYWHERE. AND EVEN THE SMALLEST ACT OF INSURRECTION PUSHES OUR LINES FORWAR--

Imperial Security Bureau Central Office - Date Redacted

"Nonsense like this is exactly what we're charged to prevent here. We have already failed in our duty."

The Director enunciates each word slowly, with emphasis.

"When gentler cures fail, the only recourse is amputation. Better a deliberate sacrifice than to let the whole body fester. This the nature of your reassignment here."

"Wield the knife. Trust nothing and nobody. Welcome to the capital of the empire."

"Let us get on with introductions now," the Director continues briskly. "Your rank and alias will suffice."

QUICK FIX 77: ANDOR ELIMINATION

Welcome to my humble quick fix game! Stay a while, have a look around.

The game will begin on October 25th 5:00am UTC, come what may. (Click here to convert that to your time zone... I still miss the days where we could embed accurate countdowns in our posts.) As per the usual for the format, turns will be 24 hours long in IRL time.

Rules (Google Docs Version)

  Reveal hidden contents

Factions

  Reveal hidden contents

ISB OFFICERS: The majority faction.

REBEL SCUM: The minority faction.

The rebellion starts out disorganized and isolated. Unlike your usual red faction, members of the rebellion do not automatically know their faction mates or have secure private communications with them.

Members of the rebellion do have the ability to kill one player each cycle. Every member may submit a target, and a random one will succeed. Friendly fire results will be rerolled once per cycle (without replacement).

Each member of the rebellion may also choose to send 1 anonymous dead drop message per cycle. They may specify any number of other players as recipients.

General Rules

  Reveal hidden contents
  • The game is broken up into 24 hour cycles.
  • There is a daily vote to remove a player. You may vote for “no removal.”
Players can only be voted out with at least 2 votes. Tied votes are decided randomly.
Daily writeups will include the raw final vote tallies from the previous day.
  • Unlimited private messages are allowed, including group PMs. Go wild!
(Please remember to include the GM, aka yours truly, in your game-related PMs.)
  • Eliminated players will have their role and faction disclosed accurately and publicly.

Key Roles

  Reveal hidden contents

REBEL SPYMASTER:

You may attempt to recruit a player every cycle. If they are a REBEL, you add them to the AXIS NETWORK, a shared google doc with yourself and all other recruits. Otherwise, nothing happens.

ISB SUPERVISOR:

You may interrogate a player every cycle. If they are part of the AXIS NETWORK doc, you find out and summarily execute them. If they are either a loyal ISB member or a REBEL who hasn’t joined the doc, you fail to turn up any damning evidence against them and nothing happens.

Both of these roles are capable of designating a SUCCESSOR.

If they die, their SUCCESSOR will inherit the role (and lose any role they previously had).

If the SPYMASTER dies without having a REBEL SUCCESSOR designated, the ISB wins.

If the SUPERVISOR dies without having an ISB SUCCESSOR designated, the REBELS win.

This is the only pair of win conditions in the game.

If both happen simultaneously for some reason, it’s a draw.

Minor Roles

  Reveal hidden contents

TACTICAL: Once in the game, you can arrest another player, foiling any actions they attempt.*

MEDICAL: Once in the game, you can stand by to save another player from all perils short of the vote.

SURVEILLANCE: Once in the game, you can check if a player attempted any action on the current cycle.*

ANALYSIS: Once in the game, you can produce a convincing-looking series of graphs to spin the numbers a certain way, making your vote count double.**

TECH: Once in the game, you can gift another player an item that grants them any one of the above minor abilities. Their choice, and you don’t get to know what they picked.***

* For the purposes of these roles, an "attempted action" includes 1) actively using a major or minor role ability, including items and 2) submitting a REBEL kill nomination. It excludes everything else.

** The "raw" vote tally that is provided each day does not reflect alterations made by this ability.

*** The recipient must lock in their choice by the end of the next cycle (if they do not specify, it will be random), but the ability has no expiration - it lasts until used. You can hypothetically possess and/or use multiple TECH items at once. Also, you can pass items in your possession to other players I guess, but let's be real, nobody ever does. Prove me wrong! I dare you.

I just realized something, and I can pull out or be a pinch hitter if people think I should.

So basically, this saturday, i.e. the first day, I will be busy literally from 5 am to 9pm (EST). So I can do stuff maybe for like 30 minutes when it first starts, and I can catch the last 4 hours, but I won't be active most of the day unless I get lucky and can get on in the car.

This will not recur for the rest of it, it's just a weird combo of events. (which will, funnily enough, end with me in a mistcloak at a halloween party. so when I first get on the Shard that evening I will have a high probability of being in a mistcloak)

Will that be all right? I fully understand if not.

Drake/the other players might have different thoughts, but I would say as long as you are comfortable playing a little catchup, you should be fine to join. With ~14 players, having one person missing for most of C1 doesn't seem like it would disrupt the game balance much. If you do remain as a player, I would advise putting the ~4 hours you are available in for C1 to good use :).

I just realized I have a wonderful 8 hour shift on the 25th!
Only from 11-7 est though. So... I should be able to do things?

I don't really play QF games a lot, but if I did I'd probably aim to spend roughly an hour per cycle, spread into 2-3 periods of reading and responding to posts. It doesn't really need to be that much of a time commitment.

That's alright with me!

Like Araris said, you might be playing some catch-up but that's totally fine if you're fine with it, and I think the advance warning is appreciated

My two cents is also that "catching up" doesn't have to mean back-reading everything that happened while you were away (idk, that works well for some people, but not everyone). I almost never do that, and it always feelsbad to me when I see someone else trying so hard to read everything when they have limited time. Personally, I like to just jump right into things and assume if there's anything really important someone will just tell me. Sometimes I get around to reading eventually but I give myself permission to play and enjoy the game in the meantime :P

we're a pretty chill crowd here, or we try to be anyways. And as a Quick Fix this is meant to be a pretty low-stakes game. I wouldn't sweat it too much honestly

I don't know, my all-time favorite SE game was a Quick Fix. And that was pretty high pressure.
