"No, not hurt. I need to get... get away."

"Oh. Oh dear," she said. "From this town? This town here?"

"Who are those? Sounds cool," the voice said innocently.

"This, uhh. Town. Yes? I don't know."

"I agree. Tests are bad. We'll help you run. Where do you need to go?"

"I don't remember!" she said cheerfully. "We have Jidah's rock... and uh... Well, I'm sure somebody else can tell you something helpful!"

Tears welled up in her eyes, and she took the rock. "Thank you, Lati," she whispered, clutching it tightly.

I can't remember the last time someone's given me something...

She smiled.

7 hours ago, Through The Living Glass said:

"Yeah!" she said happily.

5 hours ago, The Aspiring Archivist said:

"Yes. You did."

“Your name is a number?”

A person suddenly sprinted into the group, stumbling to a halt in front of Jidah and the people around her. They had olive skin and medium-length straight dark hair, and wore a simple, loose, light-colored shirt and leggings. They looked afraid, mouth open like they wanted to speak but couldn't find words.

209844 turned to look at them, used to random people appearing by now.

209845 is a vaguely humanoid form, but with too-long legs and arms. It appears to be made up of some void-like substance and has no face or features. It used to glitch all the time, but that stopped recently.

”Hello, I am 209845, antivirus of the Cloud.” Even though returning to the Cloud now would result in a full factory reset, 209845 still considered itself an agent. “Are you a virus?” Just in case, it readied its zapping tool. It had been a while since it had gotten to zap anything.

“We are currently searching for a safe location to rest while the Cloud searches for us. If you are not a virus, I see no reason for you to not join us, but you should know this world is in the late stages of being rebooted.”

“Hmm… interesting… I too am a number, but you do not appear to be a member of the Cloud…” Could there be even more factions here that the Cloud didn’t know about? First Lati, then the Sun, and now… yes, there was nothing resembling this “number 17” in any of 209845’s databases.

209845 zapped it just in case. The world suddenly turned monochrome, then returned to normal. 209845 nodded satisfactorily. It already had enough on its plate, what with committing treason and all.

"What did you mean when you said 'reboot'?"

1 minute ago, Spark of Hope said:

“Huh.”

"Does it matter that I'm called a number?" They pointed at 209845. "That is, too."

"I mean, it's not that important. But I think that's a sentient computer program."

They flinched when she talked. "Hello..."

They had an uncanny appearance. It was hard to pin down a gender or age, though they seemed like an adult, anywhere from twenty to thirty. Their skin seemed too smooth, features too perfect. It was all a little unnatural.

They jumped, looking around for a source.

Jidah tilted her head at them. "Don't look for her. Lati's invisible."

Jidah was a very regal looking figure, tall and beautiful. Her eyes were red from crying, but she didn't seem to realize that. She held a small rock in a death grip.

"Where do you come from, mortal?"

12 hours ago, echo74 said:

"From happiness!"

"Hello! I'm Rhyme. Do you have any confessions?"

"Happiness," she said under her breath, clutching the rock.

12 hours ago, echo74 said:

"Secrets, stories, anything interesting! I have one for you, and then you can tell me yours, okay? Okay, deal," she said. "My real name isn't Rhyme."

She giggled.

"Okay, now your turn!"

Jidah's eyebrows lifted.

"A reboot. An extinction level event, I believe," Jidah explained, glancing at the sky. "Maybe I should be panicking..."
