"A little." They tried another swing, which was a bit more stable than the last.

“Not bad.” She considered them thoughtfully, then touched the sword to shorten it by six inches. “That should be easier to wield. Hold it like this.” She twisted the sword in her hand.

17 quietly mimicked her.

“Wait. Here.” She used her blade to nudge them into a better position. “Stand lower, with a better base.” She fell into a sword stance next to them. “Like this, see?”

“Yes, if I had another source of power. As it is, I’d black out in thirty minutes.”

209845 turned to the Fox. "Could you help with that?"

209845 zapped it just in case. The world suddenly turned monochrome, then returned to normal. 209845 nodded satisfactorily. It already had enough on its plate, what with committing treason and all.

Hmm... we should have somewhere were we keep track of plot, too.

Anyway, I don't know how much you missed, but just in case, lets rewind quite a bit.

The fox got Jidah and 209845 an audience with the Sun, an extremely powerful local deity. The Sun revealed to Jidah that she had been cast down for her sins and had to find out what they were to regain her immortality. 209845, on the other hand, had some serious character development moments. It decided that this world had beauty worth saving, and with the help of the Sun, blinded its connection with the Cloud (so they can no longer track its location).

They left the vision with the Sun dropped off somewhere in the Dusklands, near a town, where they ran into number 17 (@The Aspiring Activist's character), a nonbinary test subject who had just escaped from their captors and clearly suffered severe trauma.

The Cloud has likely initiated a search for 209845, and so the party is now looking for a safe location to camp out and make plans, I guess.

Owen staggered alongside, exhausted. Walking was exhausting. He should've stayed in the library.

"Mm . . . library?"

"Yeah. I used to work there. Nearly burned it down a couple of times. Mostly by accident."

"What's a library?"

"A building full of books."

"Oh! So . . . the books live in the building? And the building where they live is called a library? Do you live in a library?"

“Good,” she approved. “Stab.”

“Are you a book?” Jidah chimed in, straightfaced.

"You could eat a star! They're made of light!"

You could also eat the fox. They're made of light.

They did so, seemingly more comfortable now that they were in the rhythm of receiving and obeying instructions.
