IMPORTANT QUESTION

  1. 1. What do you want to happen to this RP when the current plotline ends?

    • Start another RP of the same characters, like a season 2
      3
    • Keep going with no plan at all
      0
    • Make new characters and have an RP of a similar concept, but, effectively with a new party
      3
    • End the RP (THIS ONE BETTER NOT WIN BUT I FELT I HAD TO ADD IT ANYWAYS)

Sleeper stares at OWEN. "Aight, can I sling you over my shoulder and call it a day?"

"I think that would cause more damage to Kaleb. So no."

“I’ll distract it, then. It wants me, and I can teleports to evade it.” With this, Tenth dashed into the woods behind the orb.

"Uh.... okay then."

Glinte blinks.

”Did… did that orb… just make a gemstone?” He says cautiously, stepping over to pick it up.

he pockets the gem, then steps away.

The gemstone dissolves into light, reforms in front of the orb and in lightly launched at Glinte, bouncing off of his chest and not really doing anything more.

Lowering his blaster, Larry sighed and pointed at the orb. "What even are you? What do you want from us, other than throwing rocks at us? Where are we?" He felt it wasn't really a threat, and more of an annoyance.

Is there like a moon or anything?

You can see a moon in the sky

An isle,

No moon

Flying high, in the sky,

One mostly unreachable by mortals,

Home of the One.

I wrote far more about xenosuits than I’d intended, but I’m done.

Spoiler

Xenosuits are biotech suits designed for other planets. Their main functions are preventing exchange of bacteria or toxic biochemicals between the wearer and the environment, cycling and acquiring needed resources, and protecting the wearer from the environment by dynamically adapting to it. It consists of a collection of several programmable life forms hotwired together, which allows it to create most needed compounds given energy, materials, and time. This is one of the most important limiting factors of the xenosuit; in many conditions, despite its absurd efficiency and speed, it cannot access enough materials to create a needed function. Given already existing biomass, or simply raw carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen (it could use other materials, but the result would be poisonous to a human), it can make useful tools quickly.

A good rule of thumb to follow is earth biology; if something on earth can do it, the xenosuit can do it too, generally better. The xenosuit itself (Nick has a few other tools, the most useful of which is the modified Ferrian microbes, which let him reconfigure metal and create electronics) can make things that are springy and strong (like green wood), stiff and strong (but still breakable), muscle-like (allowing moving parts), and fabric-like (it can duplicate most fabric textures). These structures, especially the fabric, can be laced with insulation and xenosuit cells performing functions, such as photosynthesis. Cells can also produce biochemicals such as sedatives, antibiotics, corrosives, or food, which can then be used. The xenosuit cells can be set up like viruses, injected into the bloodstream to produce the desired biochemical. If the wearer allows it, the xenosuit can directly supply them with oxygen, food, and water, which allows more efficient circulation and, in the case of oxygen, giving the wearer increased endurance. The outermost layer of the xenosuit is typically set up to take in resources, oftentimes growing disposable roots that, when they are no longer needed, are broken down again. The surface is also generally covered in light receptors, which allow rudimentary vision in all directions, and color cells, which can change their color over time. The hood typically contains a conventional electronic speaker, microphone, and camera, as they are more compact than the biological version, and quickly adheres to itself and seals when donned. Nick’s suit uses a convoluted set of muscle and spring-like components to allow it to cover his head and seal on its own.

The suit generally has layers to protect the wearer. Although the suit can be made bulletproof relatively easily, a layer that is tear resistant, fireproof, and practical is yet to be found. Thus, xenosuits cannot protect against fire and cutting at the same time; if they are layered the attacks can be alternated, piercing a layer each time. In order for the xenosuit to function properly, the stacking is limited to around two of those layers; if corrosion is also an issue, only one of each can be included. Another failing is sheer overwhelm; something such as a railgun round, a lightning bolt, or simply a falling boulder can get past the protection. Although any of those could be protected against, particularly the lightning (faraday cages aren’t that hard to make, the preparations are slow and the needed structures cumbersome. Despite these failings, the xenosuit has other useful applications in combat. It can stabilize injuries by replacing lost blood, stanching blood flow like an artificial scab, and splinting broken bones. In emergencies, with enough energy in materials, the suit can completely rebuild its wearer with different biochemistry. If this is done, as long as the brain is protected the body can be regrown. However, it often alters personality (due to different neurotransmitters and such) and is irreversible.

@Ancient Elantrian @J. Magi, Nick gave you both xenosuits, right?

(Can I has one?)

Seeing that the orb wasn’t particularly malevolent, Tenth returned.

Yeah, Nick would give you one. To make them for the others, he had to sequence several different self-modifying genetic codes, then construct them from scratch, because of anti-grey goo measures. He still has the file, but it’s easier to simply wait and assume the hideout that comes next will have one; making the last two took over a teleportation cycle, I believe.

He sends shadows to encase the orb

Yeah, they are fun. And this RP helped me balance them a bit, I think. You can probably make up things that the suit can do on the fly, as long as it seems in line with what’s here.

But what about the orb? I asked it questions.

Nick tries to shine a light down the crack, then remembers his flashlight burnt up in a volcano.

Tenth checked it out.

The crack was dark, and suddenly  started getting bigger.

The cloud is weak,

The isle will fall,

fall

“What happens when the isle falls?”

Tenth made sure he was on the same side as Nick and Sleeper.

“That is probably not good for us; not everyone is incorporeal, you know. What did you mean about gifts and trades?” Nick looks around, hoping he can find water before they hit the ground.

Not yet, I don’t think.

Nick stretches out his arm, trying to help everyone get to the same side. Then, realizing he’s being stupid, he decides to make the people who can teleport move instead, hopping across the worrisome crack himself.
