Voidus Posted October 21, 2014 Posted October 21, 2014 Being 6'4 and flying economy is not fun, particularly when the person in front of you decides to recline their seat as much as possible.
traceria she/her Posted October 21, 2014 Author Posted October 21, 2014 (edited) Thanks for the support. Doing better today, but basically after talking with my husband last night we decided to start putting my resume together again. I don't have any vacation/sick days left this year, so I'll probably officially start looking at the end of the year so that I can go on interviews in January when my days are available again. But it's nice to know I won't have to be in this h**l hole forever. Work isn't what started the whole thing, but what did set me off yesterday is something I can't control. The work stress is just something underlying that is there all the time and exacerbates everything else. It's the one thing I can control... by finding another job. Being 6'4 and flying economy is not fun, particularly when the person in front of you decides to recline their seat as much as possible. That stinks. :\ Too bad you can't use those things that prevent people from putting the seats back anymore... Edited October 25, 2014 by Rubix Please don't double post. Use the edit button instead.

I wish they'd just make any seats below first class non-reclinable. Sorry you had to sit behind one of those people. Thanks for the support. BreathTaker he/him Posted October 23, 2014 Posted October 23, 2014 Yesterday, on my way to work, the engine started to rumble ominously. Seconds later it was joined by a flashing "Check Engine" light, which is generally code for "Pull over and turn that thing off right now, idjit." You win Bobby. As for me. This morning I woke up without hitting the snooze button: Win. BT:1 Life:0 I got my lunch ready and left the house on time: Win B:2 L:0 Made it to work 20 minutes early: also, Win. 3-0 alright. Went and did some work came back and checked my phone to see a text from Chase bank saying I'm 300 dollars overdrawn because insurance and other things were taken out before I got the chance to call and push everything back to pay day. Suddenly the voice-over guy from Halo screamed in my ear "BUZZ KILL!!!!!" I need a beer.
Kasimir he/him Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 I've been having pain in my shoulders for five weeks now. I'm currently resorting to using medicated plasters to temporarily ease the pain, and a whole army of painkillers and muscle relaxants (what the doc gave me). RICE just doesn't seem to help--icing makes it hurt like blazes, so I don't know what on earth is going on, and it's frustrating because so much of university work requires the computer these days. I asked my prof to let me submit a handwritten paper, in the hopes it would put less strain on my shoulders, but no go. And now it hurts when I do anything, lie on my back, read on the table, write...anything. Everything. I am really hating this and life right now.
Quiver he/him Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 My mighty, infalliable immune system has failed me. I had a bit of a sore throat yesterday, but I didn't think much of it. More the fool I! My head feels like it's been stuffed with cotton, which incidently is what I need for my nose because CELESTIA DAMNIT IT, I HATE SNIFFING CONSTANTLY. Given my track record in the past with these kinds of things, I'm sort of resigning myself to either not sleeping for the next few nights (because why would my body fight the flu when it can fight my efforts to go to sleep instead?) or not sleeping for a few nights because I'll be doubled over a basin. Throwing up can't be good for a sore throat. 1
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 I thought I was ahead of the game, already having made the required 6 original posts in the discussion forum for one of my classes. As it turns out, today's post brought me up to 4 total. And this is for the teacher who, when I got a C on my last assignment and emailed her asking how I could improve, sent me back a very curt "Read the comments." Which I did, and found them terse at best and downright rude at worst. I'm starting to think she doesn't care whether I pass or not. On the upside, there are a few more weeks left in class, so I can at least get up to my required 6 posts within the next two weeks.

Good luck at finding yourself another job. My husband recently changed job and after a period of high stress he finally acknowledged it may have been for the best, so I wish you good luck with your plans I do understand it is very hard to let go of a familiar environment, but if your work makes you feel so unhappy, then it may be the right thing to do. I guess that teacher didn't get the class on "positive feedback"..... If a student directly asks you how to improve itself, the least you could do is to actually address the matter in a proper way. I hope you'll do good on your class, despite all and if you don't, know you have tried all you could.

I'm paying a fair chunk of money to deal with her, so if I try my hardest and still fail, I'm going to to be seriously upset.

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted October 25, 2014 Posted October 25, 2014 Yeah. I get the feeling, so good luck anyway. Thanks. There are a lot of great things about the US, but the higher educational system—where you pay thousands of dollars to maybe pass a class with a teacher who may or may not care whether or not you fail—is not one of them.

Sucks. I guess this an argument in favor of a more affordable higher education system, such as what can be found where I live. It is not free, but it does cost much less then in the US.
TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 Sofia the First makes me weep for what Disney Channel has become. Seriously! They have a girl who just became a princess, and she's hanging out with Mary Freaking Poppins and they come across this weird bear thing with bat wings—and they didn't even make any of that cool? What the heck, Disney? I miss Kim Possible. 2

My kids do not know there is such thing as the Disney Channel. My Little Pony is actually quite good I found myself laughing while watching it

What the heck, Disney? I miss Kim Possible. In the immortal words of the immortal chaos dragon known as Discord... "Eww, gag." Quality entertainment can be enjoyed equally by children and adults. Cheap saccharine entertainment can only barely be stomached by bored children. I can't speak for Sofia the First specifically, but I know its type--it sounds like one of those idiotic shows made by people who think childhood is roughly identical to being brain-dead. My Little Pony is actually quite good I found myself laughing while watching it  Their older stuff (late 90s and early 2000s) is good. Shows like Recess and Kim Possible are worth checking out for older kids. And I do love Gravity Falls and Phineas and Ferb, but I guess that's technically Disney XD. I love My Little Pony. It has the honor of being the only cartoon about colorful talking horses that has made me cry multiple times, and laugh far more than I've cried. If more adult shows were as much fun and as well done as MLP, there would be fewer cancellations. 1

TwiLyghtSansSparkles she/her Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 I agree. It's not just Disney Channel which is not great now. It's Cartoon Network too. YES. I caught a few minutes of that new Teen Titans show, and I could only remember the time when it was a dark, edgy animated drama. It made me sad.
Kobold King he/him Posted November 2, 2014 Posted November 2, 2014 YES. I caught a few minutes of that new Teen Titans show, and I could only remember the time when it was a dark, edgy animated drama. It made me sad. Being an enormous fan of the original show... I haven't been able to view the new one. I haven't even tried. I've heard such horrible things about, I simply can't bring myself to give it a go. The original was smart, funny, and had me emotionally invested in every episode. Perhaps I'm heeding hearsay too much, but I've heard that this "Teen Titans Go" is a thin, overly simplistic shadow of the once-great program. Seeing my favorite superhero show in such a sad condition would really break my heart. 3

This is like someone took a gorgeous old mansion and did a complete gut-and-remodel to transform it into a daycare, then painted the front with bright colors to hide what they did. Let me put it this way: There was an entire subplot about Starfire feeding her weird alien dog (which she didn't have in the original show) the wrong food. It's terrible. Watching it might make you cry. 2

I mean, really--would it have killed them to make their dumb little cartoon about any other group of kid heroes, or maybe mustered some semblance of creativity long enough to create original characters? Grrr. I'm gonna have to watch some classic episodes to calm my mind before I grow another pair of angry red eyes. 3
Guest Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 These are shows I have not seen in French all too often.... They still pass reruns of the original Smurfs over here.... Gee, I used to watch the very same episodes, 30 years ago  Teen Titans is something I recall existed a few years back, but I'm probably older then you all, so I never really watch it  I feel old now
Delightful Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 I mean, really--would it have killed them to make their dumb little cartoon about any other group of kid heroes, or maybe mustered some semblance of creativity long enough to create original characters? If they had that amount of creativity, perhaps the new show wouldn't be so bad... (I haven't actually seen it, don't really want to for the same reasons. I used to love the old show ) 1

Quiver he/him Posted November 3, 2014 Posted November 3, 2014 Is cancelling incredible superhero shows and replacing them with inferior- if not downright insulting- substitutes a thing now? Because all the above talk about Teen Titans GO made me re-evaluate some recent superhero tv and suddenly get really sad that this might actually, genuinely be a thing. Spectacular Spider-man, a show which succeeded in mixing up the continuities of spider-man to such great success that I'm prepared to cite it as being 90% responsible for the increased role of Gwen Stacy in the Amazing Spider-Man series? Canceled. Replaced with Ultimate Spider-Man. Avengers: Earth's Mightiest Heroes, which had a kick-chull theme song in it's first season, and whose second season expanded the marvel universe while adapting stories in ways which were often superior to their original source material? Canceled. Replaced with Avengers Assemble, which has some of the worst animation I've ever seen (and I saw the old 60's and 90's shows), equally bad voice acting, and a dull look designed to sucker people in by being like the Avengers film. Young Justice, another well done DC superhero show which didn't just feature kid characters but whose entire story arc was about growing up, finding your identity and making your own way in the world? Canceled. And replaced with Teen Titans Storming Go. Hell, going back even further- Wolverine and the X-Men. I didn't watch that show at the time, because I expected it to be the Wolverine show, guest starring the X-Men... and I was kind of right. But it was also an awesome show, which actually took the concept of reversing Cyke and Wolverin's attitudes and did something interesting with it! And then teased us with the Age of Apocalypse, one of my favourite comic book storylines ever, and- Cancelled. Oh, and there's also a new Hulk show. Which... I can't even bring myself to comment on. 3
