  1. Welcome to the 17th Shard! Have you read any of Brandon's short stories? And how much do you know about the Cosmere? Have you read Alcatraz or the Rithmatist? (They're children's, yes, but they're also hilarious). By the way, we don't do spoilers the same way as tvtropes. To tag a spoiler: [spoiler*] blah [/spoiler*] without the *s. Like this: How did you discover the 17th Shard?
  2. I suggest posting in the various signing threads if you want people to distribute the cards, and also to raise the general level of awareness about the scrapbook.
  3. By the way, we now know that Seons are Splinters as well.
  4. Yep. Though, if you do, say that you want feedback at the beginning.
  5. Currently the group seems to be most available (in terms of timezones, at least; please speak up if you have a conflict with your schedule) 11 am to 3 pm. So... How's 11 am Saturday for everyone? EDIT: That would be reading excuses. Just go to the end of the 'Submission Dates' thread and ask if you can submit next time, then read the post on how to submit.
  6. Well, it just depends when you're available. For example: Take a Saturday. I'm often available from around 9 am to 8 pm. For EST, that's 12 noon-11pm. For UK, that's 5 pm-4am. So would evenings work for you?
  7. There's a built in chat feature for any document in Drive, if we want to go that way. I'm also often available in the evening, as well as on the weekends. Evening for me (say 4-9) is 7-12 for you, Caldain. Allowing a couple days to read everyone's pieces, Wednesday or Saturday/Sunday works best for me. I mean, we could do it Monday or Tuesday and switch the submission day. The only days that aren't good are Thursday and Friday.
  8. If you want to see Brandon talk about it, that's in Lecture 1 of his lectures. They've ben uploaded in another thread. Basically, it's when a small group of writers gets together and submits about 1000 words each week. The group then critiques that work, usually without the input of the original writer. That brings up a question. When will the submission date be? (I vote Monday/Tuesday, because I tend to write more on the weekend, but I don't really care.) And when will we get together to discuss the pieces? I mean, comments are nice, but it would be great if we could use the chat on each piece to talk it over with each other. Are we okay with 1000 words? I would be willing to do more.
  9. That sounds fine, though you might be more suited to Reading Excuses. We're just forming this because we want a slightly smaller group, more like Brandon does for his writing classes. Also, Caldain? You might not want to put your email up in the forums unless you want to get really spammed. EDIT: I sent you a pm with my email so you can add me to the folder.
  10. Hello and welcome to the 17th Shard! I'm Lim. Have you read any of Brandon's other books? Also, have you read the Words of Radiance sample chapters or are you waiting for the release? TEN DAYS.
  11. What about his short stories?
  12. Great! I like them too, though they can be a little...vague. Have you read all of his other books?
  13. Are you signed up for the Glimpses of Radiance?
  14. Welcome! Have you read his short stories? Are you excited for Words of Radiance?
  15. Certainly! I just need about a week to get my world organized before I start writing. What do you say we submit samples of previous work first? And how would we do this? Email works, I guess. Or Google Drive. If you have another suggestion, I'd welcome it.
  16. I was just suggesting things for the first half. For the 'destroyed' part, I think that he's striving to rebuild the Knights Radiant. I don't know that they were destroyed, but we just don't know enough to say. Renarin is an interesting possibility, though. We'll see.
  17. Born in blood and death could refer to 3 things:-Tower battle -WoR event -Gavilar's death
  18. I was thinking about how you would make spheres, too. I didn't really come up with anything inexpensive. In the Seattle signing thread, I actually came up with a bunch of ideas. Inworld ones are harder to come up with, but there are a couple. Mistborn cloaks, for example. They wouldn't be too hard. I know that someone made a Soulcaster, but that would probably be difficult to do. I already mentioned Soulstamped objects. Does anyone want to try making a spanreed?
  19. Exactly! Writers make much better critiquers than readers. Unfortunately, the only writer that I know and see regularly is my Grandma, which makes it worse.
  20. Me too! Especially with the amount of chapters already released. I can just read Chapter 7, then continue from Chapter 14.
