  1. But it's the home of the biggest library on the planet, and scholars far and wide go there.
  2. Or he could have been Mrall for a long time, simply getting near to a ruler on Roshar.
  3. Not necessarily. There were still the honorspren that Honor had created, and the descendents of both them and the ones the SF created.
  4. We actually don't know how many he created originally, though my guess would be five (half of ten). All of them except for Syl died in the Recreance. The ten group was the second set that the SF created, and they're the ones that all the other honorspren are descended from.
  5. Because we're the 17th Shard, on Discord, we just worked it out--of Mentioned but Unnamed Mothers, we have 13 Cosmoms that are mentioned, but unnamed, to 1 Cosdad that is mentioned but unnamed. So yeah, Shallan's mother not having a name probably isn't significant. Living but nameless: 1) Sarene's mom Non Cosmere: Dead and nameless: 1) Shallan's mom 2) Raoden's mom 3) Vin's mom 4) Elend's mom 5) Siri and Vivenna's mom 6) [non-Cosmere] David's mom Unknown status and unnamed: 1) Steris's mom 2) Marasi's mom 3) Edwarn's wife 4) Lift's mom (her father is also unnamed, but also completely unmentioned) 5) Eshonai's mom 6) Spook's mom Thanks to some punny username for keeping track as we figured it out hahaha
  6. Because a lot of authors like to do the nameless dead mother thing, sadly. You can't name even 10 mothers of main characters in all of the Cosmere, even when you know the father's name, and can't name even 20 mothers, period. Sarene and Raoden both had nameless mothers, although Sarene's was alive. We don't get Vin and Reen's mother, or Wax, Steris, Marasi, Siri or Vivenna's, or the name of the mother of Ham's children. It was 3 books before we got Adolin and Renarin's mother's name. Main character mothers: Navani, Aesudan, Evi, Hesina, uhh... Mothers in general: Silence, Allriane (eventually), Beldre (eventually), Tindwyl, Daora...
  7. And this WoB confirms that the mother that Shallan killed was indeed her birth mother. So Shallan's parents were both human, thus, Shallan is also human.
  8. Iirc it was mentioned a little while back and the answer was that the personas sometimes bleed through each other.
  9. Pssst, this thread is three years old. Also, Steel is currently on his mission
  10. Sadly pretty much all artwork is going to be semi-canon, due to artistic interpretation.
  11. Why couldn't he have been close to Taravangian before the Diagram occurred, and was chosen to be part of it? We don't know how long the kandra has been on Roshar. If it's been decades, he could have been working his way closer that whole time. Or he could have been recruited afterward?
  12. If everyone who knows where it is refuses to say anything, then it's pretty hard to find. Or it could be surrounded by traps and weird things, like Aimia or Sel or Taldain.
  13. Well, Hoid is an Allomancer. But I don't think he was really drinking cologne. I think he had a different disguise just before that, and the cologne is a remnant. And he passed off the discrepancy as claiming he was drinking it.
  14. He's in a great position to gather intel on everything that's happening on Roshar and in one of the major secret societies.
  15. I don't think Kelsier wanted to be thought of as the Lord Ruler. I think that was just a misunderstanding from Wax and Marasi.
  16. Kaladin is sort of the opposite of emotionally composed.
  17. Er, nothing to do with his rank, and everything to do with how their personalities do not mesh, actually. Opposites only attract when they have surface differences, but have underlying commonalities and compatible values and beliefs. When they have radically opposing values and beliefs, it's not going to work.
  18. Depending on lifespan a generation can be 20-30 years apart. So "a few" is probably 60-90 years.
  19. Exactly, yep. What do you define as a god? Jasnah, I think, defines it similar to the Christian God, the alpha and omega, "I am that I am". And she doesn't consider the Shards to fit that bill. I mean, people used to worship particularly interesting looking rocks and rivers. And that's fine, if they feel it is worthy of worship, but I don't feel the need to do the same, you know?
  20. Why are they God, just because they are super powerful beings? If we met aliens with technology that could bend time and space and had unlimited power sources, would you consider them Gods? Some people would, but I wouldn't. They would just be...extremely advanced and powerful beings. Here's a good topic with a lot of discussion on it back then, that I think covers a lot of people's thoughts both for and against. (We should continue discussion here, of course, just putting this here as a reference)
  21. Even melted, the investiture in them would still be accessible. So as long as he's still touching them, he would still heal.
  22. One popular misconception is that being burned (at the stake or something) is enough to completely incinerate a body. Most times, I think a bonfire would char off the skin and fat and some of the muscle, but most bones and the densest muscles would remain. Modern incinerators are hundreds of degrees hotter than any bonfire could get, and there's still quite a bit of bone left over, that has to be ground to dust (it's not actually ashes). So assuming that the Lord Rule had metalminds touching any of this still, he would be able to tap the gold and heal himself. Or just continually tap the metal so he doesn't start actually burning in the first place. That would count as surviving being burned. He could also have metalminds implanted in various places on his body, not just in his stomach and the like. I'd say that a nuke would probably do it if he was in the "vaporize everything" zone.
  23. Zane spiked himself. It was easier for Ruin to influence people who were crazy, and Zane was a couple sandwiches short of a deli. We don't know the exact circumstances, though.
