[OB] Cosmere Crossovers, and the deal with Hoid
RShara replied to Naerin's topic in Stormlight Archive
Off topic, but why are there so many Ooklas all of a sudden? -
Ah, thanks. I thought Nightblood would have predated the Radiants, since they created him so long ago.

Nightblood originated on another planet, I don't think he was based on any kind of Rosharan system. He also might predate Radiants, and definitely predates the Recreance, if I remember correctly.

Sorry but I feel like you're completely wrong here. She's compassionate to Shallan, apologizes when she's wrong. She's compassionate to Renarin, both throughout their lives and when she spares his life. She's compassionate to Taravangian, who she thinks is simply a kind man. She's compassionate toward the human race, whom she wants to survive. Actions speak louder than words, and she acts quite compassionate, whenever she can without risking bad consequences.
-
When she's contemplating the survival of her species, I agree that it's not very far. But she's generally courteous and polite (unless someone irritates her). Note how she treats Taravangian in WoK.
-
I'm not sure about Investing into a planet, but he's definitely created Splinters of himself--the Unmade and the voidspren--on Roshar.
-
Well the Unmade are splinters of Odium, so that will affect their behavior. Given Odium's intent is Hatred or Void, their Intent is generally going to be pretty unpleasant. @ghajan monk You might think of Nightblood as a splinter of Endowment. So in that consideration, they are similar. @splinters I think Nightblood would be powerful enough to kill an Unmade in the proper circumstances. I don't see how Nightblood would be able to drive one of the Unmade to destroy itself, though. From what we've seen of how Nightblood works, I don't think that he would be able to entice another Splinter into self-destruction.

I think she does consider people's feelings, as far as she can. But she realizes there's a point at which people's feelings are less important than the end result.
-
I was just re-reading WoR, and I rediscovered the epigraphs of part 2! They actually hint at quite a bit of the humans' arrival on Roshar. So it looks like the Unmade and the voidspren are definitely Splinters of pure Odium. "It's not impossible to blend their surges to ours in the end" might be referring to how Venli's spren (highspren? lightspren?) bound the voidspren into her heart, so now she has access to both? It also sounds like the Listeners might have had a prophecy about humans taking their lands. What's most interesting is that their songs also speak of a Champion that could defeat him.

That one's tough. We don't really know a whole lot about how Nightblood works. My guess from what we've seen is that the Breaths power his sentience and baseline abilities, and they really don't get used up, similar to the innate Breath that keeps any regular person alive. When he consumes extra Investiture, it gives him a boost, enabling him to bring his more wacky abilities into play. And it kind of over-feeds him and sends him into a food coma/drunken stupor.

Yes, anyone with a lot of Investiture would take longer to kill, because they would have more fuel for Nightblood. But if they ran out, they'd be eaten. I'll bet Unmade are crunchy.

I just scanned through Warbreaker and any time Nightblood is mentioned, and I didn't see where Vasher says this. Do you have the page or position?

Nightblood consumes Investiture. So yeah, assuming you could stab him in to an Unmade, and the Unmade couldn't access Investiture, given enough time, Nightblood could probably destroy them. Destroying them is kinda a side effect, though. He just eats their Investiture. Since they're made of Investiture, they get eaten. Yummy! I believe Nightblood consumes Investiture at a steady, but VERY fast rate when drawn.

It's probably Shalash, yeah. But it's interesting that dead spren also have their eyes scratched out.
-
Mmmm...have you read Warbreaker? It sounds like you have, but I wanted to double check.

Lol that's good to know.

As far as I can tell from Liar, that was his real name. Whether it will be when his books are written is a different story, of course!
-
How about Odumium. It's an insult, AND easier to say.

[OB] Cosmere Crossovers, and the deal with Hoid
RShara replied to Naerin's topic in Stormlight Archive
I kind of see it like The Hobbit and LotR. You don't need to read The Hobbit and see how Bilbo found the ring in order to enjoy LotR. Same with SA and Warbreaker/other Cosmere works. Extending that analogy, you don't need to read The Silmarillion in order to understand and enjoy LotR. From what I understand, and what Brandon has said over the years, while the Cosmere is more prominent in SA, it's not meant to be the big main Cosmere series that he's hinted at. -
Also, Lift seems to only get Stormlight from food, and she didn't have a whole lot available to her.

[OB] First time poster, fustrating question no one can answer?
RShara replied to Emperor_Alexxx's topic in Stormlight Archive
IIRC, the Blade just clanged to the ground. He likely gave it to one of his men. Or wait...didn't he give it to Renarin? No he didn't. -
Yeah, I meant to mention, the sphere seems to only have recharged the one time, while the Stormfather was there. So Kaladin, without having sworn the First Ideal, only managed a little bit of healing from 4 chips' worth of Stormlight, and whatever else Teft managed to get to him. Renarin's sworn at least the First Ideal, and possibly the Second or even Third? (no proof, no), and is surrounded by tons of Stormlight. Presumably, the Thaylenar treasury held only broams and bigger, and they (and Renarin) might have been supercharged by Dalinar.
-
Right, but he only had one sphere of Stormlight the whole time, until Teft brought him a couple. Renarin had tons available to him. Kaladin, during the duel with Amaram, was in the process of breaking his oath, so we don't know how much that would have affected his ability to heal. Also, at this point, Kaladin hadn't even spoken the first Ideal yet, so his use of Stormlight would have been pretty preliminary and instinctive. Renarin has progressed at least past the First Ideal, so he'd use Stormlight much more efficiently. And I agree that his use of Progression likely helps that along quite a bit.
-
I stand corrected How many people has Adolin seen healed, though? The arrow straight through Shallan's head, and Jasnah stabbed through the heart are pretty horrible injuries too. Kaladin healed enough to stay alive (from being beaten to a pulp by man and highstorm) with just one sphere worth of Stormlight.
-
I thought Naurock referred to Renarin healing other people. I mean, Jasnah recovered from stab wounds to the heart, and Shallan healed an arrow in her freaking brain.
