  1. Ahhh I see. Do we have anything that talks about how Ati felt about the Shard? Because in MB, he sounded like he viewed Ruin as necessary to life, and as change, rather than destruction.
  2. I think absorbing Splinters of a Shard would also change his Intent, so I don't think it's something he's willing to risk. Is there evidence showing that you can splinter a shard you aren't holding in a specific way or into specific pieces?
  3. Sorry, I don't really understand what you're getting at here? I think you're saying that Ati became as nutty as he did because he started out nice? I'm not seeing any basis for that if that's what you mean? ^^I'm with you here.
  4. I can see what you mean in your arguments, and they do make sense. But I just can't believe that multiple sources that are either very sensitive, intelligent, Cosmere-aware, or powerful (or all of the above) would be so wrong about Odium's Intent. Particularly, Frost's letter is very clear on who Rayse is, and what he holds. If he were Passion, some of those virtues would be there. All-consuming hatred fits with the effects we see, and the fallout that's occurred much better. And I have to stress once again, that we have seen a Shard do exactly what Odium is doing--misrepresent himself in order to persuade his opponents and justify his actions. I didn't believe Ruin when he did it, and I have no intention of believing Odium
  5. It could be Invested with Fortune and that's why it was lucky for Adolin. (Wild chull guess here lol)
  6. They're described as human-shaped hands. The corrupted ones are described (among other things) as "too large." This makes me think they are human sized, normally. Otherwise, wouldn't the description be, "tiny" or "small" human hands? And what manifests in the PR seems to be just a tiny part of the full spren (A head, a tongue, drool...). Kaladin doesn't say anything about the small orange spren having extra large hands, just that they're shaped like people. I guess it depends on Kaladin's definition of "small." If we're talking under a foot high, then probably not. If we're talking 3-4 feet, then they could be painspren.
  7. The only Radiant spren that I can think of that would fit would be the Stonewards' spren. We don't know anything about them, other than that they allow the Stonewards to reshape rock--which could be something like "the kind that holds the world together." Substancespren? Matterspren? Or it could just be a bindspren, and T is mistaken in thinking it would be a KR spren. Ooooh...or it could be a kind of spren that makes Shardplate for one of the Orders. We have a few more options for that, though Stonewards still seem the most likely.
  8. Aren't painspren shaped and sized like human hands in the Physical Realm? Which means they're probably attached to something rather large in the Cognitive Realm.
  9. I guess it could be read either way. Someone just needs to ask Brandon if Odium is actually Hatred or not lol. Regardless, he said you could shift it far enough to be a synonym. As in, a different word that means nearly the same thing. So the Intent can't be shifted THAT far.

  11. Do you have the WoB in question? I'd be interested to see it. The closest I could find was this one, which seems to confirm Odium was always Odium, aka Hatred. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/218-words-of-radiance-chicago-signing/#e6613 Ati was actually a kind and nice guy before he took up the shard Ruin, so I would assume it would take someone with a LOT of willpower (or Identity?) to keep their personality intact and change a Shard's Intent. I think both Odium and Ruin claimed this. I also think they're both lying.
  12. Oh man. I JUST came here to ask if anyone thought it was Evi's chain. We know Evi and Toh stole...claimed their Shards from Iri. Maybe they took more than just them?
  13. That makes sense to me. Somehow, giving up Responsibility for your actions allows Odium to steal your Identity. Very strange.
  14. It could work either way. I don't have strong feelings or arguments for or against.
  15. I can agree with that. It's like (to continue the comparison) how Ruin's Intent was destruction and entropy. He used change and sometimes passion and other altruistic desires to accomplish that. It seems to me that Odium consumes Passion, rather than embodies it. That fits with his being Void.
  16. Syl says that Odium is watching just before Szeth comes for Dalinar the first time. Odium might have been surprised at the existence of the Diagram itself, but when he saw it, he showed T how very tiny of a surface scratch the Diagram was, compared to him. So I highly doubt he was ignorant of Szeth's actions. Let's look at the Unmade that we've seen. They are Splinters of Odium's power, therefore, they are tied to his power and Intent. 1. Ashertmann--Basically the embodiment of the 7 Deadly Sins. Lust, Greed, Gluttony, etc. Excess. Mindless Indulgence. Filling an empty soul with sensation in order to escape or to remember what it's like to feel. 2. Moelach--Cryptic foresight on the border between life and death. 3. Nergaoul--Basically, bloodlust. Berserker rage. 4. Re-Shephir--Drawn to violence and pain. 5. Sja-anat--Corruption. 6. Yelig-nar--Not sure how to characterize this one, actually. Destruction? Power? Possession? Something along those lines. We don't know enough about the other 3 to say what they're like at this time. However, looking at 6/9, I don't see how any of them could indicate Odium's Intent is "Passion" or anything other than, well, Odium. We have rage, bloodlust, gluttony, violence, corruption. If his Intent were Passion, wouldn't at least SOME of those involve more positive forms of passion? I took this to mean Odium and his Unmade, or other allies/servants. Wasn't Cultivation in love with Tanavast? Seems unlikely that she would ally with Odium to kill him.
  17. I suspect Eshonai was always intended to die, and become a martyr for the Parshendi that have resisted so far.
  18. Except that he does want to kill Cultivation. I thought he just couldn't find her?
  19. Part of the setting of one of the gems was also damaged, though. I suspect that's more the problem than the chain. That being said, I don't think the silvery chain in Shadesmar is part of a Soulcaster. What other silvery metals do we know of? Aluminum, definitely. Maybe getting it into Shadesmar takes some hijinks that make it more valuable there? Could it be silver from Threnody? Does Threnodite silver have special properties? So many questions, so few answers!
  20. Here you go And a really great list here:
  21. Only if you read the WoB or other spoilers, which a lot of people don't.
  22. I'm on the fence about Shallan. Sometimes I like her, sometimes I love her, sometimes I want to slap some sense into her. I like her quips, I do find her funny at times. But the way she wastes so much of her potential drives me nuts. I know it's because of her childhood trauma, and I have no idea how horrible it is for her. So I can empathize, while at the same time, wanting to shake her silly. Does that make sense? I really really hope that she and Adolin make it work. I feel like he could be her tether and that her being secure about him will (hopefully) help her deal with her issues.
  23. I felt like we were beaten over the head with the whole, Moash doesn't care about anything and doesn't think he deserves anything good, theme. It was interesting at first, but then it kept going and going....and going...and going...I just started skimming his chapters. More time spent on characters who were doing things, and actually developing as characters, would have been nicer than listening to Moash mope for far too many chapters. His motivations are trite and his thoughts are bland. I don't even hate him. I'm just completely and utterly disinterested in him for 99% of his viewpoint chapters.
  24. That does sound like what might be happening with Autonomy. I also suspect the second letter is the one that is addressed to the shard that was on FotS, and that the shard in question is likely Autonomy (again). Bavadin really gets around!
  25. I should have made the connection when her hair changed colors. For some reason, I thought she was an Elantrian instead, though, because it changed to white...lol. I'm so bad at this. (Also, should take Vivenna's name out of the topic title)
