  1. A CS is the remaining imprint of the mind of a person. Each person exists on 3 levels. While they're alive, their mind is their cognitive aspect. When they die, if there's enough investiture, the mind, or Cognitive Aspect, can live on as a Cognitive Shadow. The Cognitive *Shadow* by definition, can't be of a living being. While the being is alive, what exists in the Cognitive Realm is their Cognitive Aspect. Whether the Cognitive Shadow is actually that person's mind, or just the imprint (sorry not sure what the correct terms are here) of the person is a philosophical thing, but the CS is what's left behind. It can't exist before the person died.
  2. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/34-arcanum-unbounded-seattle-signing/#e5991 So if he is a Cognitive Shadow, and a Splinter, then it would have to be what I said--Either a Splinter that absorbed the CS, or a CS that is augmented by (i.e. absorbed) the Splinter. What I mean is, the Stormfather isn't easily defined. What, exactly, he is is unclear, aka fuzzy. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/81-shadows-of-self-newcastle-uk-signing/#e5723 Also, from the link you included, Brandon says that CS are basically ghosts. Not sure how you can have a ghost before the person is dead?
  3. The Stormfather appears to be a Splinter that also absorbed or was created to augment Tanavast's Cognitive Shadow. He didn't seem exactly sentient before Honor died, and doesn't have good memories from before then. It's kind of fuzzy what's exactly going on with the Stormfather.
  4. So the questioner was comparing the Unmade to the Orders of the Knights Radiant. So they were asking, if the Unmade were compared to the Orders, which one would be left out, since there are 9 Unmade and 10 Orders. Brandon responded that the missing order would be Bondsmiths, although the 9 Unmade aren't really the same as the other 9 Orders.
  5. Other than being the sister-in-law of the guy with 10,000+ Breaths
  6. Yes, they chose Jasnah. When Sebarial is talking with Palona, she walks in wearing a crown.
  7. I don't think we have a fixed time for how long before Mistborn Era 1 that Warbreaker happens, other than it's somewhere less than 300 years. It could be 10 or 50 or 300. Vivenna's been on Roshar about a year, give or take. She says this while they're traveling in Shadesmar.
  8. Nah, a Sliver is a person who held a large portion of the power of a shard (often temporarily). TLR was a Sliver. SF is a Splinter, or a spren, or a Cognitive Shadow, but not a Sliver.
  9. Well the Rosharans call just about any kind of mobile investiture "spren" so... It's a very non-specific term.
  10. The Stormfather sometimes uses the wrong terminology. Like, he calls himself a Sliver, when he should be a Splinter. Also, the Rosharans call just about any kind of sentient investiture "spren" no matter what or where it came from. So, I wouldn't get too fixated on the SF calling them spren instead of Cognitive Shadows.
  11. So, some of this is fuzzy, because the SF doesn't always use the right terms (he calls himself a Sliver, but he should be a Splinter, etc). Also, the voidbringers are humans. But the Fused are the cognitive shadows of the ancient Listeners, enhanced (and corrupted?) by Odium's power. They're being stapled into live bodies by Odium's power, destroying the Mind and Spirit of the original owner of the body. The Oathpact sealed them into Damnation (Braize). But any time one of the Heralds broke, and allowed them to return to Roshar, the entirety of them would start to be able to return as well. Now that they've somehow created the Everstorm, when the Fused are killed, they don't return to Damnation at all. They float around in the Everstorm until they find another body to possess. Does that make sense?
  12. Odium's Intent isn't to be the only shard. His Intent is Odium. RAYSE wants to be the only shard, but that has nothing to do with his Shardic Intent. Sja-Anat hating Odium is certainly ironic, but does follow the Intent of the shard. We've also seen Splinters able to take on their own sentience and purpose, such as on Nalthis, with the Returned, the Seons, Skaize, and so on and so forth.
  13. ...But Eshonai saw Timbre herself before she died. Timbre was flying around her for weeks. And I think assuming a misunderstanding when there's no evidence of such is..well, a really big assumption. Add to that Ico's statement that his father is a deadeye, and his daughter ran off to become a Radiant spren ("chasing dreams"), I think it's pretty obvious that Timbre is a Willshaper spren. It's possible that Listeners are born with a spren in their gemhearts (though I find it unlikely, because spren aren't born that way?), but that spren is not Timbre. Timbre is a Radiant spren. She grants surges. There's no way Eshonai, or a spren that Eshonai was born with, would grant surges.
  14. Well I think you're stretching a bit but that's the fun of speculations, right? I have no idea on the text. Maybe if you tag it with a popular tag?
  15. Brandon also said that there aren't ten Unmade. The Unmade lack the correlation to the Bondsmiths (although there's not a 1-1 correspondence anyway). And he agrees or at least heavily implies that there are only 9. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/173-oathbringer-san-francisco-signing/#e8598 https://wob.coppermind.net/events/218-words-of-radiance-chicago-signing/#e6612
  16. I was just looking for it. Here you go!
  17. In WoR when Shallan says she's terrified, doesn't that get accepted as a Truth? So it doesn't *have* to be a deep seated hidden truth.
  18. He won't pick up new shards, but splintering himself wouldn't change his Intent. Otherwise Endowment would be changing constantly. As I mentioned in another thread about this: Say you have a cake. If you add to the cake, it's no longer the same flavor. But if you take away a slice, it's still the same cake, just smaller.
  19. Grandfather, and an actual number of dead spren seems pretty specific. It would be odd that Venli comes up with these or misunderstands something into these concepts There's also this part right after it. It's clear Venli understands what Timbre is saying. Venli names Timbre, so the name doesn't have relevance to who Timbre is. Also, there's a WoB somewhere that I'm trying to find, where Brandon says the SF sometimes uses the wrong terminology for things. Ah hah, here it is. https://wob.coppermind.net/events/81-shadows-of-self-newcastle-uk-signing/#e5723
  20. Venli does, in fact, understand what Timbre is saying. She's clearly getting specific responses and replying to them. The second Irritation is about how much she doesn't trust humans.
  21. Yep. I doubt they'd go to all that trouble just to find one radiant spren, but if they HAD found it, it would have been killed or corrupted.
  22. Yes, it was definitely a Cryptic that ran over to Hoid. It's unknown if the Fused were looking for the Cryptic or for something else. It seems unlikely it'd be the Sibling, though. Ba-Ado-Mishram is speculated.
  23. Oh I'll bet he has some suuuuper juicy ones. And he surely has enough of them to get to 5. Just starting with his real name, and going from there.
  24. It could be. Her flashbacks will definitely be interesting.
  25. Yeah her "son" is probably Glys. In Sja-anat's illustration in the book, it says she considers all of those she "Enlightens" as her children.
