The Full potential of Lightweaving : theory
RShara replied to SzethIsBadAsHell's topic in Stormlight Archive
She recreated them at least once. Lift sees her hugging herself, not Veil and Radiant. And that sort of has to be the case, since Shallan wasn't moving between the illusions of Veil and Radiant. She was creating them over and over again, but which one she was wearing was changing. And also, like I said, Jasnah not saying anything, and Brandon saying he wants Shardplate to be a big reveal. -

Well there are arguments either way. But my reasoning was that Jasnah would have said something, and Radiant wouldn't have always been wearing it. Shallan made multiple Veils and Radiants. And she was straining to keep the illusions going toward the end. It'd make lots of sense that the Radiant that she was at the time wasn't wearing even illusionary Shardplate, either to conserve strength/Stormlight or because that one wasn't wearing any. Also Arm, not Shardplate, armor, or armor covered arm. And she was so nonchalant about it being Radiant, she doesn't react at all to what she's wearing. I have a hard time believing that Jasnah would have let Shallan managing Shardplate pass without any reaction at all. -

I think that the Shardplate is illusory, or wasn't even on the Radiant that Jasnah touched. It was on Radiant when she first appeared, but that doesn't mean it was on Shallan-as-Radiant. In addition, Brandon has said that he wants someone getting Shardplate to have a pretty nice reveal. He's not going to have it happen offhand like that. Plus, Jasnah made a point of asking Shallan if she had her Shardplate yet when Shallan claimed to be a full Radiant. If Shallan had accomplished Shardplate at that time, I'm certain Jasnah would have said something. -

Oh sure. I never said she'd never be able to. I was saying she hadn't at the Battle. And I'm trying to clarify what's meant by solid. -

Semi-solid illusions, so what I'm thinking here. -
I mean, it's not really necessary, it's just doing the math. A vial contains, what, an ounce of fluid and a handful of flakes? Let's call it 5 grams of flakes. Burn speed depends on the metal and flaring, etc, so that's not readily quantifiable, but let's just pull out a number and call it an average of 10 vials a week. That's 50 grams a week. Scadrial has the same length of year as Earth, so that's about 2.5 kg a year. Say their active Allomantic burning life is 50 years. That's about 130 kg. There are over 900kg in a ton. So 90 Allomancers burning 10 vials a week for 50 years to equal a single ton. There's 60,000 tons of steel in the Empire State building. I couldn't find an annual production of bendalloy, one of the rarer and faster metals, but cadmium is something like 23,000 tons a year in 2012. That'd be something like 2000 bendalloy Mistings or Mistborns burning 10 vials a week of bendalloy for 50 years to equal one single year of production. Running out isn't a problem.

I'm sorry, but that's not what happened. They did pass through the illusions. They resisted a little, but they weren't completely solid. -

I'm thinking solid as in, gas, liquid and solid. If we're talking, they have some resistance to them, then that'd be a different matter. I guess I'm confused as to the terminology you're using? IIRC, Jasnah said the illusions seemed to have some mass/resistance to them, not that they were solid. -

The same as IRL. Would you count water as a solid? -
Very unlikely. An Allomancer burns such tiny amounts of metal at a time. A single railroad track, or one of their skyscrapers uses more metal than all of the Allomancers that have ever existed have ever burned, combined.

Mmmm illusions with some slight resistance to them is very far from illusions that are solid. -
While some of those are major events, there's definitely far more to the story than those facts without context.

They're all in Arcanum Unbounded, with little pre-story comments that tell you what series they're from.

I don't think they have forms. There's just not enough singer blood there. Rock can just barely barely hear the Rhythms, which the singers can even in dullform. He might have like, a splinter of a gemheart, but his spiritweb just isn't close enough to singer to form that sort of bond with a spren.

Which is why I said some are genetically closer to their singer ancestry and can see spren, while others who aren't as close, can't. I really don't think that swimming in a perpendicularity would grant any abilities. I mean, people were pretty saturated with investiture at Thaylen City and that didn't do anything to them. Perpendicularities are just high concentrations of investiture, that allow you to transition. I don't think it affects your SDNA just by swimming in it. Also, Rock never says that he swam in it.

It's because Horneaters are human/singer hybrids. Some are genetically closer to singers, and so can see spren like singers can. Rock even mentions almost being able to hear the Rhythms.

Venli said she'd spent time in mateform but no children resulted. Eshonai said her time in mateform was largely a disaster, so it doesn't sound like children were produced there, either.

My SA books from Googleplay add up to around 45MB for all three. Sounds like something weird going on.

Regardless, Ash usually destroys the face or the whole object, not just the eyes. So she doesn't have a propensity for eyes. Also, Shalash doesn't have a Shardblade (she mentions this in the Baxil interlude), and Liss obviously does. In addition, their physical descriptions don't match. Liss: Shalash: So Liss is plump and, given the lack of mention of her eyes, has the typical epicanthic fold. She has dark hair, but it's not stated to be black like an Alethi. Shalash is tall and lean, with Shin eyes. They are clearly different people.

Depends on your definition of god
-
Depends on what definition of "god" Brandon is referring to here. Returned are considered gods. Patji is considered a god, as are the other islands. So are the Reshi Isles. Honor was a god. So it could mean bodies of Returned, bodies of Vessels, bodies of greatshells...any number of things. Without that definition, it's basically impossible to say how significant this WoB is.

Which Rosharan country would you want to live in?
RShara replied to The Kraken's Daughter's topic in Stormlight Archive
Purelake or one of the non-greatshell Reshi Isles for me, I think. Sounds v ery relaxing. Except for their rules for homosexual relationships -
Why does Odium occupy the perpendicularity in the Horneater peaks?
RShara replied to Oltux72's topic in Stormlight Archive
Because occupying a perpendicularity means you can control who can transition in and out of it. Which, from what we've seen in Shadesmar in OB, is important, since he's gotten the spren to report all sorts of things to him.- 15 replies

Shards can lie, and you have to get them to swear a specific Oath if you expect them to be bound by it. Mistborn spoilers
