While Honor might have done something like what Leras did, the Oathpact came later, and didn't involve Odium at all. The Oathpact was the Heralds' solution to the problem of the Fused, binding them to Braize. Also, Odium is bound by the power of both Honor and Cultivation.

Cognitive Shadows are once-mortals that became suffused with enough investiture to persist after physical death. Spren are living embodiments of ideas/ideals. They're both composed of investiture, but I consider how they got that way to be an important distinction.

Given that Hoid hates Rayse a lot, I think it's more likely that Hoid will work to destroy Rayse, and then maybe make a deal with his successor.

Page, I'm going to counter with my thread

I prefer the T is a Plant theory!

Maybe? I mean, you'd think if it was just replicating a human body 100% exactly, they should be able to grow hair, right? And they can't.

Why on Earth are the IRE worried about shades?
RShara replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
From a wild guess at the timeline (we know SfS happens after Warbreaker but before SA) and how Silence's grandmother was one of the first to scout out the Forests, I highly suspect that the Evil that took over the Homeland and the "Forces of Threnody" mentioned in SH are the same. The timeline could match up. I don't know if that early on, there would be enough Shades to be a "force" yet. -
Why on Earth are the IRE worried about shades?
RShara replied to Frustration's topic in Cosmere Discussion
The star systems would only be relevant if they were inhabited by sapient life. Also, they don't say Shades, they say, "Forces of Threnody." We have no idea what these forces are comprised of. They could easily be the Evil that drove Silence's ancestors away from the Homeland, instead of the Shades. -
Very true. I'd just like to get all of that clarified, because I'm not entirely sure Brandon knows how complicated a pregnancy is. It's not just making a uterus, there are hormones and things that need to be generated at just the right time, and a bunch of stuff.
-
I actually really want to ask Brandon that at some point where he has a lot of time to answer. Because yeah, he says he thinks they could but..Does that mean that their body will automatically know what hormones to produce at what time in order to get the fetus to develop? I ask because kandra imitate, and they can't imitate what they haven't sampled, experienced or practiced with, and none of them would have any idea what hormones to create in order to successfully carry through a pregnancy. Like, they can't even grow hair. So the idea that they could actually create all the systems needed to support a fetus, and have them work exactly right is a little strange.

I don't know that Hoid would be interested in becoming a god. He refused a Shard when it was offered, and it doesn't seem like he'd be interested in that much power and that many forces working on his mind.

Dissolving and picking up sediment from the western side and depositing it along the rest of the continent, perhaps?

To clarify: It requires the 9th Heightening to Awaken metal or stone, which is 20,000 Breaths. But Nightblood itself "only" used 1000 Breaths in its Awakening. Hope that clears things up.

That she can smile and make (deliberately bad) quips when she's been through as much pain as she has. Also, you posted this several times. You can fix this by going to each extra post and Edit->Hide (or maybe you can Hide it without clicking edit first). There are also umpteenth threads about Shallan and her relationships that are sometimes very insightful if you're interested in looking at them. Edit: I just realized, I should add: This is a perfectly valid opinion, one that's shared by many. And posting about it is great! We all love to hear more about what people think about characters, books and everything else I only wanted to say that since you sounded interested in hearing others opinions of Shallan, there are a lot of threads about her

Highstorms are based on hurricanes, iirc? Hurricanes get stronger over water, and weaker as they travel over land. That might be what the highstorms are doing.

Yes, seons and skaize are basically Sel's equivalent of spren. Seons are Splinters of Devotion and skaize are Splinters of Dominion. You might be interested in looking at their Coppermind articles, or taking a look at the Words of Brandon (WoB) that we have on them. https://coppermind.net/wiki/Seon https://wob.coppermind.net/adv_search/?query=seons

Welcome to the Shard! Hoid was the name of our Hoid's master, who was killed by assassins when our Hoid was still pretty young, according to the unpublished Liar of Partinell chapters that were once available. This was before the Shattering, so a good 8000 years, at least, before the events of Elantris. It's also unlikely that the Arelish language has much resembalnce to the Yolish language that Hoid spoke way back then.

The Nightwatcher is probably somewhat limited. We haven't ever seen her given a really intense boon or curse, just change perception a bit, or give/remove something physical. If Cultivation intervenes, most bets are off, since she can probably give or take just about anything she wants. Though she probably couldn't give Allomancy since that's from Preservation, she could probably give an equivalent that works within her particular flavor of investiture.

No, Preservation made them. The Lord Ruler found them. Or some of them, anyway.

According to Odium, he did briefly Ascend, so I consider him a Sliver, indeed. Although Odium doesn't have any particular need to always tell the truth, I don't see any incentive for him to lie in that particular instance. Also it's "Dalinar Kholin" I assume audiobook listener? You can find the proper spellings on the Coppermind.

Are we sure Vasher doesn't know why he Returned? I don't remember any confirmation either way.

Because the magic on that planet is region-locked--it gets weaker the farther it is away from its location of origin. And Arelon is on a different continent than the Rose Empire, so they would be weak to the point of uselessness at that distance. The Emperor's Soul is just a little while after the events of Elantris--a few decades at most, iirc.
-
Soulstamps are a different magic system from AonDor. It uses the same investiture (The Dor), but it's based on MaiPon instead of Elantris/Arelon. It uses its own symbols, with the setting mark based on MaiPon. Shai just left Aon Reo on the wall when she left as a big insult, sort of like leaving an Anarchy symbol or something. All of the magics on that planet are based on symbols that resemble the land of the person using the magic. So Soulstamping is similar to AonDor, but is its own system.

I did say "guess." Heightenings are 5x2, at least.
