  1. "Darkseid always hated music." Superman, standing at the centre of a multiversal collapse, after singing a note in a frequency that shattered the soul of the God of Evil.
  2. So: yes. I'm up to date on Flash and Arrow so please- discuss away! And you're right; the odd's of a Suicide Squad happen is nil, and it is a shame what happened to Deadshot. He had a very rough start to the show, in my opinion, but he really grew on me as the show went on. I'm kind of holding out hope that he might reappear next year, and cheating death becomes a running gag with him. And... yeah, I haven't read Suicide Squad yet, but I don't think that Deathstroke was ever on the team; but... it's been a head canon I've had for a while, mostly because I thought Manu Bennet was amazing as Slade, and there seemed to be a lot of potential to explore with the character.
  3. So... I just looked through the threads and... realized there was never one of these made? (I think I know why though. The UK screeings of Arriow are so late that I'm always terribly behind... and when I first joined, I was too shy to start a thread like this.) Anyway, I'm starting one now- a thread for fans of the DCCW shows to talk about stuff! I'm calling it the Arrowverse since that's the parent show and all, but if anyone has any better names for it, let me know! So, I know there are some fans of Arrow and the Flash here, so... you guy's excited for the new season's? Anything you hope get's changed or fixed? Looking forward to DC Legends of Tomorrow? Am I the only one who wants a CW Suicide Squad show starring Manu Bennet?
  4. ...Seriously, brony music is awesome.
  5. To whom it may concern, I have an aversion to dirt. My definition of "dirty" differs from yours. If I touch something I feel is dirty, I will, minimally, start scrubbing my hands for ten-fifteen minutes, and most likely feel upset for the rest of the day. Kindly stop insinuating that I don't touch things to get out of housework or because I'm lazy.
  6. Its not a trope I've seen in a while, but why are ancient, lost civilisations Better Than You? My main point for that is Numenor, since "the Blood of Numenor" is such a Big Deal in LotR. It's even present in ASoIaF a little in the Targareyns (though I feel like that is maybe a deconstruction as much as anything else).
  7. ...guys. Guys. Last night, I was trying to come up with an idea that I could write. "I know," said I. "What if I tell a story from a dragons point of view! That might be fun!" Last night. At around the same time you guys talked about Dragons. Are we making a hive mind?
  8. Actually, on the presentation of women stuff... I dislike the fantasy trope that feminine, "girly" girls are weak, and being a strong female character means being a kick-chull fighter and being "one of the guys". (My example, of course, is Rarity, since MLP had an episode all about that moral).
  9. Well, I finished season one and watched the two-parter opening season two, so I figured it was time to start this topic! Anyone else watch the show? What do you think? For my part... it's okay. I don't know why the first season was so short, but I feel like that hurt the show a little bit; it feels like they haven't really gotten a chance to explore the characters below the surface (with the exception of Kana, Ezra and Hera). I'd like to see a bit mroe depth to Zeb or Sabine, and especially to villain's like Khallus. Honestly, the early episodes gave me something of a Firefly-vibe; a group who stole from the oppresive Empire, but still had to do the "normal concerns" like food, fuel and where they were sleeping. I wish they had explored that angle a bit more, of a group of people just living their lives while sticking it to the Empire -rather than an organised Rebel Cell- but... I suppose that would have been a very different show.
  10. "Of all those I have met, Rayse is the most loathsome creature... however, Vashikaran, in many ways, was his equal. We are fortunate that Vashikaran lacked Rayse's cunning; however, I dread the consequances of his "brute force" spam approach, now that he has obtained a shard".
  11. Why is the chosen one always a young farmboy? I don't watch it, but I heard about a show, Yonderland, where the chosen one (from what I understand) is a middle-aged woman, and that sound's like it could be a very fun story. Imagine a wizard following a prophecy back to it's route, and discovering that there is a chosen one; a child, one who can be raised in the arts needed to overthrow the Dark Lord. They follow the prophecy to it's subject... and discovers that they spent so long finding it that the kid grew up, has a family (with kids) and other responsibilities and can't just go gallivanting around the world to stop The Great Evil. Also, why are Father/Son relationships always so big in fantasy, with the Father always being evil? I had an idea a while ago that I thought would be fun to write, where the "evil general" character was the son of a stories heroine. Middle-aged female protagonist having to kill her child? Yes please! ...I mean, it's depressing, but still...
  12. Good luck Joe! Just follow the clues!
  13. ..I forgot the turn ended today instead of tomorrow.
  14. I... actually did not like it as much as I thought I would? then again, I went in with extraordinarilly high expectations, and it was stilla good movie. I'll comment on Ant Man specifically... But Phase Two thoughts. Looking back at it, I think it's been interesting. Phase One was all about telling Origin stories; each film had it's own style, of course, but they were also, in a lot of ways, "standard superhero films", about the main characters getting powers and becoming heroes (the fact Marvel is now the standard for Superhero movies, of course, colours how I view them). The only films which really tried anything different were Cap -which had a bit of a war movie vibe to it- and the Avengers, for it's sheer scale. I feel like Phase Two has been marked by the studio trying to stretch those genre's a little bit. IM3 was an 80's style action movie, Thor was a road trip/war movie, Winter Soldier was a spy film, Guardian's was a space opera, Ant Man is a heist. Sometimes it worked better than others -Thor 2 was okay, Winter Soldier was amazing- but it's done it's job; it shows that superhero films can be "about" other genre's or other cinematic styles and still work. (Ultron doesn't quite fit this scheme, but... I'm working on a theory that Age of Ultron is a superhero take on Dante's Inferno and the afterlife.)
  15. SSo, it turns out Disney skipped an episode in season two, and has shown parts of it (and season one) out of order. Fantastic. Oh well; I should hopefully finish the UK broadcast episodes this weekend.
  16. Question: why do game developers never get cut-scenes right? I'm watching Dragonball Z Kai, and it made me think of the (plethora) of DBZ games I picked up over the years. Am I the only one who got frustrated at beating, say, Radditz perfectly -no damage at all- only to go to a cutscenr where my character is beaten up and the other is smugly taunting me? Why make those fights mandatory if winning means nothing?
  17. ...Can I just say that, more than maybe anything else, this line stood out to me? It makes me feel somewhat less terrible about the low word count I ever seem to be able to make. I still need to work on doing it daily, but still!
  18. Is... is this an image I have, guys? I mean... I don't try to hate stuff, I try to balanced and there was stuff I liked in the Suicide Squad trailer (like Viola Davis)... (Heck, the reason I don't GUSH about how awesome (and20% cooler) thigns are to him is because I thought it was annoying. Should I be doing that more?)
  19. Here's my public action this turn, I'll try and get the roleplay up tomorrow when I'm in less of a panic! Who: Lord Rolan Queade What: Building a prison Where: Luthadel When: Action 2 Why: As it is, there's only really two options when it comes to handling with crime (legally); fines or execution. Jail offer's another option. In theory, it might make me a little bit of money -bail's and stuff- but primarily, I'm trying to institute some Justice. Of course, since this is the Final Empire, part of my plan's for the skaa criminals will be that they will be available to work as a labour force, for the Lord Ruler -or for other Houses (if they pay me). We can work out the details later. (Basically, the Final Empire equivalent of breaking rocks or community service... so significantly more terrible, probably)
  20. The film was released (at least in the UK) today, and I'm planning on seeing it this evening, so I thought it was worth opening a thread for! (It's also the last of the Phase Two films, so... I suppose this thread could fit for a general discussion on this past "era" of Marvel films as well? Or should that be it's own thread?)
  21. Quoted for truth. "Nice Guy Syndrome" is one of the most toxic tropes in fiction - you pointed out the girl power thing but, looking at it from a guy's point of view... "Keep stalking her! She's just playing hard to get, she'll realise how awesome you are eventually!" Which...kind of leads to the "Nice Guy" thing I mentioned. "I'm nice to girls, so why don't any of them want to date me! I deserve it, damnation it!"
  22. ... I was going to gloat about Blushweaver, but it doesn't say she killed Syl. Is...is Syl walking around with an arrow in her head?
  23. So... I'm watching the old, Lynda Carter Wonder Woman series. The episode I just saw, an alien from a hyper-advanced civilisation offered to take Wonder Woman and show her the universe, and all the strange planets. What in saying is, Wonder Woman could have been the Best Doctor Who Companion.
  24. Protagonist-centred morality. It's hardly exclusive to fantasy, but there are some fantasy books I can think of where it is a very big aspect that offends me.
