  1. Sorry! As someone from the UK -and particularly since I'm considering playing with the 'mad bomber' archetype- that acronym just stood out to me. Sorry for that! So...how is this for a character?
  2. Uh. Okay. I think I get what you're looking for, except for the age. Should characters be highschool age, or college age? Also, uh. You might wanna chance the name of the school. The acronym for Ice Ray Academy is...sort of associated with something else. (...And let me disclaim that my 'bomb character' is in NO way inspired or related to the IRA.)
  3. Maybe it would help if one of you guy's went first with characters? ...That sounds very blunt and rude. What I mean is... you guy's have experience in this setting, whereas we don't. Maybe posting some sample character sheets, so we can see the kinda tone you're going for, or what kinda stuff you are itnerested in, would help? (Not to mention providing a template for people to follow themselves)
  4. Hmm. So now I have to decide between using my Speedster character (well, technically Speedster, it's actually all about altering friction around himself to alter his speed), or a bomb-crazy superheroine. (The concept I really wanted to do probably wouldn't fit, since it's specifically about the 1940's...still, I had backup plans. Kinda leaning towards the grenade character, since...that archetype is usually played as a villain, so it might be kinda fun to make them a hero. Unless someone wants me to do a villain, that is...)
  5. As it happens, I have a superhero character in mind I've been wanting to use for a while. Did you plan on play by post here, or on another site?
  6. I am torn between wanting to ask this kind of question to Brandon, and worrying that asking him to weigh in on it would be the equivalent of asking his stance on abortion and be a MAJOR social faux pas... Considering the various real-world analagies here...yeah, I don't see this being answered any time soon.
  7. I guess part of the question is 'how will science develop on Scadrial, period'. Mistborn has been posited as the Earth-like book... but that doesn't necessarily mean anything. Which means... genetic testing, at least as we understand it, might not be a thing that happens on Scadrial. At all. I sort of wonder if, perhaps, Connectivity might be used in some manner to figure out crimes. After all, someone being responsible for the death of another person seems like the kind of thing that might leave some sort of trace in the cognitive realm or something... but that just get's into paranoid theories about how metals that we don't-really-understand work. (But Feruchemist detectives. That's my theory.)
  8. Yeah, no offence to all you Fanderson's out there, but the second Winds of Winter hits, I am dropping whatever I'm reading to get started on that book. ...Though at this point, I wonder if we should start a betting pool on how much SA will get published before Martin finishes the Song of Ice and Fire...
  9. With goat power, comes great responsibility -Goat-Man
  10. A user whom I haven't spoken to much, but whose mark I have seen on the forum. While they might discourage the signature or featured members topics as being borrowed from other sites, they were the one who adopted them to this site, blazing a trail across the Cosmere's digital playground. Their dedication to this forum is absolute, even beyond education and toiletries, and they have both the elegance to use a name like 'Silverblade', and the self-awareness' to dub themselves 'derpy'. Conclusion?
  11. So...random speculation: do you guys think this movie will still hold up 10 years from now? While I liked it, I have to admit, it's built on callbacks and reinterpretations of A New Hope. There is stuff I absolutely love about the film -like Rey- but...well, to be fair, The Phantom Menace was probably more original than this one. Not -better- by any stretch of the imagination...but it didn't involve rehashing A New Hope as much as Force Awakens does.
  12. The redemption thing is interesting cause...you're right. Anakin killed children, then spent twenty years as the enforcer of a brutally oppressive government. For sheer scale, Vader has Ren beat.
  13. So. Star Wars features the Solo family. The Man fr UNCLE had Napoleon Solo. Napoleon Solo was played by Henry Cavil. Henry Cavil also played Superman. Therefore: 'Napoleon Solo' is an alias. The man we know as Napoleon Solo was actually Jor-El's father, using an old family name; some comics and shows have used the House of El scouting pit Earth ahead of time. That's how Jor-El knew that Clark would be super powered after spending time there;he was working off of Grampa Superman's research notes. Subsequently, that means the DCU takes place in the Star Wars universe...which explains how normal humans like Batman or Green Arrow can keep up with demi-Gods. They are using the force!
  14. A non-serious thread, unless we stumble across the secrets of Brandons workm in which case, spoilers. So, we all heard people ask "Is Reckoners Cosmere", due to perceived similarities between magic systems, characters, whatever. What this is, is a thread for everyone to speculate on what else might be Cosmere. Books by other authors? Television shows? What non-Brandon works " obviously" take place in the Cosmere and why?
  15. If the Doctor is an epic, and he co-exidts with Nightblood... Did we just prove that Reckoners is Cosmere?
  16. I know not what unholy diety I did offend to be blighted with this ailment, but surely coming up to 24 hours without ssleep, back pain and vomiting more than equals my supposed slight. I hate everything right now.
  17. Gingers devour Nightbloods Investiture. Nightblood is a weapon of war. The Doctor wants to be ginger. Therefore: The Doctor wants to be ginger so he can destroy Nightnlood. Doctor Who is Cosmere, #headcanon
  18. YES. I have been saying this forever. one of the projects I want to write - that I've mentioned on this site, and to people, a lot- is just the idea of that. Cavalry is such a big deal in fiction; now imagine if the cavalry charging at you consists of horses made up of 800 pound of muscle, bred for war, with a giant spike. Awesome. This is canon. ...Er... sorry. But my random ranting digression is probably someone elses' pet peeve, so... it counts?
  19. Warning for people: the first spoiler is related to an audience-thing (and is potentially triggering, which is why I'm putting it in separate spoilers). My general, spoiler-free opinion, though, is that it was a fun movie.
  20. Linking this from Tor; what are your chances of taking the DS9-crew in a fight. http://shevathegun.tumblr.com/post/132583277240/the-if-i-fought-this-ds9-character-would-i-win
  21. With the Force Awakens either released or soon-to-be-released (depending on your region), I thought it might be appropriate to see if anyone else happens to read probably-the-best piece of Star Wars material out there. If you haven't heard of it, I really recommend checking it out. Darths and Droids is a DnD-style campaign comic, using still's from the movies; basically, the characters are playing a sci-fi game and end up creating Star Wars. It's inventive, hilarious, and there is a lot of material to catch up on. They recently started Return of the Jedi, so... yeah. Something I highly recommend. http://www.darthsanddroids.net/archive.html
